Spandam was no fool. He dumped all the blame on Spandine. The man was dead, after all, and couldn't contradict him. Whatever Spandam said, he had no fear of anyone exposing his lies.
The Adjutant and the other Marines were stunned. None of them had expected Spandam to go this far.
As Spandam saw it, his father was dead, so there was no reason to hold back. Lies came easily to him, and he didn't even blush.
"Pah..."
Kalifa huffed angrily and spat. Spandam glanced at her. "Kalifa, am I wrong?"
Kalifa rolled her eyes. "I didn't say that! You know better than anyone whether it's true."
That left Spandam with no answer. To Aokiji, though, his story plainly had plenty of holes.
Kalifa was seething, and not just at Spandam. As far as they were concerned, it made no difference whether Spandine or Spandam was in charge of Enies Lobby. Father and son were exactly alike.
What upset her even more was that Ye Chen had left without a word. He hadn't cared whether any of them lived or died. It seemed heartless.
"Kalifa..."
Kaku came over and leaned close to her ear, smiling as he tried to comfort her. "You're angry with Ye Chen, aren't you? He must have had his reasons. Besides, who could've known the ship would sink so quickly?"
"Hmph. If I see him again, I'm going to make him explain himself."
Kalifa secretly clenched her fist and gave it a few hard shakes.
Seawater had soaked her through, leaving what little clothing she wore clinging
