The Blackbeard Pirates came on strong, and Sadi and the others fought desperately to hold them off.
Burgess sent Reggie flying with another punch. Then heavy footsteps sounded behind him. He spun around to see a spotted cow charging at him, swinging a club.
The cow moved fast. In the blink of an eye, it was right in front of him. It leaped, and Burgess had no time to dodge. He threw a punch to meet it.
Bang!
His attacker was Minotaurus, the merciless Cow Beast among the Jailer Beasts.
The impact left Burgess stunned. His arm went numb, and the web of his hand nearly split open. The Cow Beast had terrifying strength. One swing of its club forced Burgess back several steps.
Before he could steady himself, the Cow Beast charged again, its club whistling through the air with tremendous force. Burgess dared not take it lightly and fought back with everything he had.
But moments later, a Zebra Beast rushed in too. The two Jailer Beasts surrounded Burgess. Strong as he was, he could not bring them down quickly.
After all, the Cow Beast alone was strong enough to flatten Mr. 2.
While the two Jailer Beasts kept Burgess occupied, Reggie spat blood onto the ground. Seizing his chance, he rushed at Burgess from behind.
Burgess was too busy fending off the beasts to defend himself. Reggie's blade slashed across his back.
Burgess howled in pain and staggered, swaying several times before he barely caught himself.
"Moo!"
The instant Burgess slowed, the Cow Beast charged again and swept its club at his waist.
Bang! Burgess went flying. Reggie's eyes lit up. "Nice hit!" he shouted. He pushed off the ground, sprang into the air, and slashed at Burgess as he hurtled away.
"Ah... no!"
Burgess cried out.
