By the time Ye Chen and his crew reached Wano Country, Kaido's forces had beaten them there, and a fierce battle was already underway.
Kaido had sent Tiger King King, along with six enormous warships. Each ship carried more than a hundred elite pirates.
King had already led his men in driving back the shore guards. They had landed and pushed into Wano Country.
The shore lay in ruins, scarred by battle. Boulders had shattered, the ground was pitted, and broken trees lay everywhere. Even the air reeked of blood and gunpowder.
"Who's there?"
Kaido's crew members left behind to guard the ships spotted Ye Chen's pirate ship and shouted a challenge.
"Looks like we're a little late." Trafalgar Law frowned, worry stirring in his heart.
Ye Chen nodded. The sounds of fighting still carried from the island. Sure enough, the people of Wano Country were locked in battle with Kaido's forces.
It was clear Kaido's men intended to force their way ashore.
In the original story, Jack the Drought should have carried out this mission. But Ye Chen had killed him, so Kaido had sent King instead.
King's men did not recognize Ye Chen. Arrogant as they were, they sailed straight over. Ye Chen had not intended to bother with them, but they picked a fight and surrounded the Death God with all six ships.
"Prepare yourselves, you arrogant pirates."
A bearded pirate planted one foot on the ship's rail and looked down at Ye Chen and the others. His smug expression made his contempt plain.
Ye Chen did not know whether to laugh or cry. He curled his lip. "Which of us is being arrogant?"
