Yuta Okkotsu stared dumbfounded at everything before him.
He had never expected that the three classmates he considered incredibly strong would not even last a few minutes against Lu Lu.
After merely two exchanges, they had all been defeated.
After his initial burst of excitement, Satoru Gojo pulled out his phone and started searching for something.
"Hello... Shoko?"
"Huh? What?"
"You started drinking this early... honestly... Panda!"
Panda had already been waiting nearby. He hoisted Toge onto his shoulder and walked out.
That left only Maki Zenin unconscious on the ground, while Lu Lu and Yuta Okkotsu stared wide-eyed at each other.
Then Satoru Gojo's head popped out from behind the door again.
"Oh, right. Lu Lu is in your care now, Okkotsu, and Maki too. Please take her back to the dorms!"
"Huh? Okay!"
Yuta Okkotsu answered in a fluster.
But when he turned around, Lu Lu had somehow already left the training ground, leaving only Yuta and Maki Zenin lying on the floor.
"Um... Lu Lu...?"
The next day—seven in the morning—
In the Jujutsu High dormitory, Lu Lu woke up on time as usual.
After getting himself ready, he pushed open the window and looked at the lush forest outside, taking a deep breath.
"Ah... what a refreshing feeling."
"It feels as great as welcoming New Year's morning in a fresh pair of underwear..."
But then an ill-timed voice came from behind him.
"Lu Lu, are you celebrating New Year's this early?"
The moment he heard that voice, all the pleasure in Lu Lu's heart vanished.
"What business do you have coming to my room this early, Gojo-sensei...?"
Lu Lu enunciated the words "my room" with particular clarity.
"Ehehehe..."
Satoru Gojo smiled apologetically and waved his hand.
"This was supposed to be my assignment, but you know how Yuta Okkotsu has been lately..."
"So I really couldn't spare the time. After thinking it over, you're the only person at Jujutsu High I can entrust it to."
Lu Lu was also quite surprised by the news.
He had only enrolled at Jujutsu High last night, and he was already being sent out on a mission the very next day.
"Here are your student ID, uniform, and the materials for this mission. Time is tight, so I'll keep it brief."
As he spoke, Satoru Gojo handed Lu Lu a set of black clothes and a manila document envelope.
Then his expression became extremely serious.
The instant Lu Lu opened the envelope, his pupils constricted sharply.
"This is...!"
Two hours later.
Lu Lu, dressed in the black stand-collar uniform that had been rushed out overnight, walked along the streets of Sendai.
"Good grief... things had gotten this bad before the jujutsu world reacted..."
"Those trash at Jujutsu Headquarters really are useless."
The moment Lu Lu stepped onto this land, a strange presence enveloped him.
Yet the people around him seemed completely unaware of it.
"Tch... this is going to be troublesome..."
According to the materials Gojo had given him, people had been dying under mysterious circumstances in a town on the outskirts of Sendai for the past five days.
The first victim had been a fifty-five-year-old convenience store cashier.
When the body was discovered, it had supposedly lost all moisture and become a shriveled, desiccated corpse.
By the following day, three more bodies in the same condition had been found.
The incident had initially been determined to be the work of a curse, but no curse or other traces of cursed energy had been found.
It had therefore been temporarily classified as Grade 2.
Lu Lu raised his hand to hail an empty taxi and gave the driver the address.
Upon hearing the address, the driver hesitantly glanced at Lu Lu several times, but eventually nodded and let him get in.
Throughout the ride, the driver kept studying Lu Lu through the rearview mirror.
Half an hour later, he finally could not hold it in any longer.
"Young man... are you going there to pay your respects?"
"What?"
The driver continued, "You look so serious, and you're dressed all in black. You're going to pay your respects, right...? I heard a lot of people died there."
Lu Lu paused, then nodded lightly. "Something like that..."
"You're from out of town, so you'd better be extra careful. I heard the people there are very hostile toward outsiders and aren't friendly to newcomers at all."
That piqued Lu Lu's interest somewhat.
He could first ask a local about what the place was really like. Perhaps he might learn something unexpected.
"Oh? What exactly are they like?"
But ten minutes after asking that question, Lu Lu regretted it.
For the next hour or so of the drive, he listened as the driver went on from the Jomon period to local folk legends.
He never stopped talking once.
Just when Lu Lu could no longer endure it, the car suddenly screeched to a stop.
"What happened?"
"Young man, this is Mount Tenno."
Lu Lu leaned out to look. "But we're still outside the town..."
Before he could finish, he saw a massive wooden sign erected beside the town's only road leading outside.
Several large characters were written across it in plain view—"Outsiders, get lost!"
"Good grief..."
