The timeline rewound to shortly after Rosa Kevin awoke. She was sliding her enormous body about, stretching for the first time in three hundred years.
"Creak—creak." Her stiff spine cracked repeatedly.
"Ah... that feels so good..." Rosa Kevin let out a delighted, relieved moan. "Ah~ I slept for so long that my bones were practically rotting away. I really don't know why I chose this place to hibernate... With all this gloomy, rainy weather, I feel like my rheumatism is about to flare up again."
"Eh? What are these...?"
Rosa Kevin looked at her bluish-red scales and the debris beneath them, suddenly remembering something. "Hm?!... I bought a castle from Prince Dracula before, right...? So why..."
Rosa Kevin felt that there was nothing above her head. She raised her head and blankly stared at the sky overhead. "Ah~ The azure sky really is beautiful... but where the hell is my castle?!"
Rosa Kevin twisted and screamed even more frantically. "My castle, my castle!!! The ultra-luxurious castle with VIP retirement amenities that I bought for 120,000 Gold Coins... where is it..."
Her cries carried a sobbing tone. "My castle... my fully automated, ultra-luxurious magic massage bathtub... ah..."
The giant snake rolled her body around like a child. Her massive body shook the earth, and clumps of dirt and trees flew into Rosa Kevin's nostrils like dust.
"Ah... ah... ah-choo—"
Rosa Kevin sneezed hard, spraying Decaying Energy venom from her mouth. She wiped her snot with her tail. "When will my pollen allergy ever get better...? The medicine I got last time seemed completely useless... I wasted over thirty Silver Coins for nothing! Next time I see that doctor who sold me fake medicine, I'll teach her a proper lesson!"
As she said that, Rosa Kevin angrily swung her tail. Her long, winding body shook the entire mountain range, and even cities hundreds of kilometers away could feel the tremors.
"Ah~" Rosa Kevin opened her gaping mouth, and fierce poisonous gas corroded the ground. "My bad breath seems a little severe~ Well, I haven't brushed my teeth in over three hundred years..."
"What warm sunshine." Rosa Kevin stretched her body, ready to enjoy the rare good weather. Suddenly, a sharp pain came from the back of her tail.
"How strange... why does it hurt a little?" Rosa Kevin raised her head and looked toward the tip of her tail. A short severed section and a large patch of dark green blood came into view. At the same time, a tiny silver-white insect flew into Rosa Kevin's left eye. Then a beam of light shot from her left eye, and a blue-green sphere fell to the ground. Rosa Kevin stared at the sphere with her only remaining eye.
"Why does that bead look so familiar..." A breeze passed through the hollow socket on Rosa Kevin's left side. Only after a while did she realize how serious the problem was.
"Eh? That's my eye?!!!" Rosa Kevin's howl rang through heaven and earth. Moments later, she woke from the yellow-green mud.
"Oh God... what a terrible nightmare..."
"Evil God, you're finally awake..." said the slime monster beside her respectfully.
"Oh... Talatala..." Rosa Kevin said as she looked at the puddle of green unidentified liquid. "My most loyal servant, when I was at my lowest, only you and your kind remained by my side. I, Rosa Kevin, one of the first creations of the earth, hereby promise that if I regain my strength in the future, I will grant you the highest honor."
The slime monster Talatala cooperatively bowed to Rosa Kevin, though Rosa Kevin herself had no idea whether slime monsters even had waists.
"My esteemed Evil God, do you still remember our agreement?"
"Uh... what agreement?"
"Huh?"
"I'm kidding... Don't be so lacking in humor..." Rosa Kevin said, pulling a potato from her pocket. "I previously promised that so long as you and your kin remain willing to submit to me, I will grant you inexhaustible food..."
"And then?"
"Believe me! This potato is only the first installment. Once my influence grows, then I'll..."
"Evil God—" Talatala's voice sounded strange, perhaps because they were struggling to hold back laughter. "We have already accepted your promise. From now on, we are your servants and are willing to obey your commands."
"Ha... r-really?" Rosa Kevin could hardly believe her ears. "Just one potato..."
"Yes, one potato is enough... After all, this is merely your down payment, which means..." Talatala thought for a long time before finally saying the rest. "It is... proof that you value your promises. I hope you will carry forward such a fine virtue~"
"Good! In that case, heed my command and march toward the nearest city—Canfor!"
"Evil God... food alone isn't enough, you know~" Talatala replied. "If you want soldiers to attack the nearest city, food alone won't be enough... You must also have military pay~"
"In other words, you need to pay us—" Talatala's kin said in unison from beneath the mud.
"Aren't you slime monsters? What do you need money for?"
Talatala said, "Then we need food. What did you mean by bringing just one potato?"
Rosa Kevin said, "..."
"Esteemed Evil God~ Five giant dragons live on a mountain peak not far from here. They possess tens of thousands in wealth. So long as we seize that wealth from them, we will have enough startup capital... Then we can recruit soldiers and buy horses, and swiftly rebuild your former glory~"
"But... I only woke up not long ago... Challenging the dragon race at a time like this..."
"Great ancient Evil God Rosa Kevin, how could you fear a mere five dragons? At the height of your power, dragons of every color were your food... Whether it was the Ralierman Dragon born from flames, the Lulolinge Divine Dragon roaming the sacred seas, or the Pipilra Dragon, mount of the gods, all feared your mighty name. How could five ordinary dragons dare defy your will now?"
Rosa Kevin said, "Uh... well... that wouldn't be very nice, would it...? They didn't provoke me, after all... It doesn't make sense morally or logically... This is a civilized age. We should be reasonable and civilized..."
Talatala said, "After you were defeated by the Hero, some of the treasures you hid in the mountains were stolen by those dragons. Strictly speaking, the dragons' treasures should be yours."
"Ha... ha??? What the fuck was Nushashaer doing? I paid them eight hundred Kralimaya Gold Coins every month, and this is how they managed my money?!!"
"Give it up... After you were defeated by the Hero, they immediately betrayed you and went over to the Northern Old Gods. Most of the wealth you gathered from everywhere was offered to the Northern Old Gods as tribute by that bastard."
"Damn it, that fucking traitor! I XXXXXXXXXXX, XXXXXXXXXX!"
"Mind your manners, Evil God. We are superior creations."
"Heh heh... slip of the tongue, slip of the tongue. Just pretend nothing happened. Let's continue."
"Understood..." Talatala continued, "If those dragons truly dare defy your wishes and refuse to obediently hand over their ill-gotten gains, then let them experience the power of an ancient Evil God. Let those ignorant worms see what true strength is!"
"Very well said..." Rosa Kevin nodded. "If those dragons are willing to submit to me and return their ill-gotten gains, I am quite willing to forgive them." With that, Rosa Kevin wrapped her clothes around her body and walked toward the other side of the mountain.
"Evil God... you're going the wrong way... The dragons' nest is over there..." Talatala said.
"Slip of the tongue, slip of the tongue..." Rosa Kevin covered her face and headed in the other direction.
After Rosa Kevin had gone far away, Talatala's kin gathered around. The jelly-like low-level monsters spoke in clumsy words.
"Lord Talatala... is this witch really an ancient Evil God? We can't sense any powerful strength from her..."
"That's normal..." Talatala said. "Ever since she was defeated by the Hero ten years ago, her strength has greatly declined. It is only natural that she has degenerated into her current state."
"If that's the case, what is the point of pledging loyalty to her? What difference is there between an ancient god without evil power and a wilderness witch?"
"There is—" Talatala vomited out the potato Rosa Kevin had given them from their body. "So long as she can rise again, our kin will flourish under her protection!"
"Rise again?"
"That's right!" Talatala twisted their body into a sheet of writing. It recorded every time Rosa Kevin had gone dormant and awakened, as well as the disasters she brought to the Mortal Realm, the Heavenly Realm, and the Divine Realm afterward.
"Ancient Evil God Rosa Kevin was born before the Northern Old Gods had even come into existence. As the daughter of the earth, she has experienced things beyond our imagination. She had already developed and grown strong before our ancestors even appeared. Every period of dormancy was to better accumulate power. Watch... this Evil God who has lived for hundreds of eras will once again lead this world toward its end!"
"Uh... did our ancestors really leave behind writing this edgy?" Talatala's kin said. "It feels so embarrassingly over-the-top..."
Talatala said, "Well... I don't know either... Anyway, this form of magic was already inside me when I was born. I once suspected Rosa Kevin wrote it herself. Stop reading! Reading too much of such embarrassing writing can make you sick."
"Agreed—" Talatala's kin said in unison.
The slime monster family led by Talatala was one of the Four Heavenly Kings loyal to Demon King Rosa Kevin, as well as the sole descendant of Tatapila, King of Mud. Back when Rosa Kevin was besieged by the joint forces of the Hero, the Northern Old Gods, and the Mind Divine Realm, Tatapila took the lead in battle and was beaten until not even a trace remained.
Talatala was the product of Tatapila's fission before their death. Because their predecessor had been Rosa Kevin's creation, Talatala possessed a special affinity for Rosa Kevin and the Decaying Energy represented by Rosa Kevin. Although Talatala did not know Rosa Kevin's true appearance, they and their kin still knew who Rosa Kevin was.
It was precisely because of this that the decayed Elrina Forest became a safe haven for Talatala and their kin.
