Asuma advanced through the Academy, formed a team with Kurenai and Shizune, and developed powerful techniques while earning the trust of Tsunade and Konoha’s leaders. After clashes with Kakuzu and signs of a major buildup near the Land of Wind, he concluded that the Third Great Ninja War was close.

• Asuma trained with his classmates, persuaded Sarutobi Hiruzen to give Hatake Sakumo a place at the Academy, and later graduated at the top of his class.
• Asuma strengthened his skills, joined Yūhi Kurenai and Shizune under Hatake Sakumo, and passed their bell test through coordinated teamwork.
• Asuma patrolled the Land of Rivers border, killed three enemy ninja, and created a one-handed Rasengan while his team guarded its position.
• Asuma developed Wind Style: Rasenshuriken, demonstrated its destructive power to Sarutobi Hiruzen and others, and exchanged knowledge of the technique for Uzumaki Kushina’s Fūinjutsu lessons.
• Asuma joined Sakumo, Kurenai, and Shizune on a covert mission to observe the borders, then fought enemy squads while the team protected a caravan.
• Asuma and Sakumo battled Kakuzu, destroyed several of his hearts, and watched him escape before Asuma explained Earth Grudge Fear to his teammates.
• Asuma and Sakumo scouted the Land of Rain and Land of Wind border, found Sand Ninja and large supply stockpiles, and Asuma concluded that the Third Great Ninja War was near.

Asuma mastered new techniques, led his squad through rising tensions and the Chunin Exams, then joined Konoha’s defense against a large-scale Sand Ninja assault. The arc left him facing the enemy’s main force after a devastating Scorch Release attack.

• Asuma drove Kakuzu from the Land of Rain with two Wind Style: Rasenshuriken attacks, then returned to Konoha and began medical training with Tsunade.
• Asuma trained with Uzumaki Kushina, learned Fūinjutsu, and led Yūhi Kurenai and Shizune through dangerous missions before they passed the Chunin Exams.
• Asuma synthesized Scorch Release, mastered Kakashi’s Chidori, and developed powerful Lightning and Wind Style modes.
• Asuma led his squad to investigate the Third Kazekage’s disappearance and suspected Sasori of killing him, then spread the accusation to prompt a Sunagakure investigation.
• Asuma completed Lightning Style Chakra Mode and created Scorch Release: White Eye Blue Dragon while war spread across the region.
• When Sunagakure attacked Konoha’s border, Asuma fought through the Sand Ninja forces, rescued Yūhi Kurenai and Shizune, and helped Hatake Sakumo organize the defense.
• Asuma unleashed four Scorch Release Rasenshuriken into the advancing Sand Ninja formation and shielded Konoha’s forces from the ensuing heat storm.

Asuma helped Konoha defeat the Sand Ninja, captured Bunpuku, Shukaku, Chiyo, and Ebizo, and forced Sunagakure into peace talks. After returning to Konoha and earning a Jōnin promotion, he began helping Kakashi improve his vision with Lightning Chakra.

• Asuma and Hatake Sakumo repeatedly broke through Sand Ninja attacks, then joined Jiraiya in a massive Rasenshuriken assault that devastated the enemy forces.
• Asuma developed the Ink Dyeing Sky Dizziness Technique, treated poisoned Konoha ninja, and later agreed with Orochimaru to pursue the One-Tails Jinchuriki.
• Asuma defeated Bunpuku and Shukaku, sealed them, and extracted much of Shukaku’s Chakra before returning to battle and routing the Sand Ninja.
• Asuma captured Chiyo and proposed peace, while Konoha and Sunagakure negotiated amid continued fighting and later exchanged prisoners.
• Asuma confronted the Fourth Kazekage, Rasa, held him back, and joined Minato and Hatake Sakumo to turn the decisive battle in Konoha’s favor.
• Asuma captured Ebizo, treated Konoha’s wounded, and learned that the Fourth Kazekage had submitted a peace treaty as he received his Jōnin promotion.
• Asuma returned to Konoha, visited Kushina and Minato Squad, and began demonstrating how Lightning Chakra could help Kakashi develop Dynamic Vision.

Asuma exposed Danzo’s assassination plot, advanced his powers, and helped Konoha turn the war against the Mist Ninja. The arc left him facing the Third Mizukage after trapping Yagura’s forces at the coast.

• Asuma exposed Danzo’s attempt to have him killed, and Hiruzen stripped Danzo of his authority while promising to step down after the war.
• Asuma helped Tsunade overcome her hemophobia, strengthened himself through training and Natural Energy, and developed a seal that let Jiraiya enter Sage Mode.
• Asuma and Might Duy defeated the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, then Asuma used Shadow Clones to hold Konoha’s defensive line against the Mist offensive.
• Asuma and Jiraiya led a counterattack that broke the Mist Ninja’s command headquarters, and Asuma later took Uchiha Shisui as his disciple after capturing a White Zetsu near Shisui’s training grounds.
• Asuma developed Electromagnetic Release and an Electromagnetic Eye, then began the Second Counterattack against the Mist Ninja.
• Asuma used infrared vision and an electrified Water Shockwave to devastate the Mist forces, but Yagura froze one of Asuma’s Shadow Clones and held off Konoha’s reinforcements.
• Asuma found and destroyed hidden Mist Ninja strongholds, drove the Mist forces into retreat, and pursued them despite losses from their traps.
• Asuma cornered Yagura’s forces at the coast, defeated the summoned sharks, and prepared to face the Third Mizukage after Hizashi identified him aboard a ship.
