After Nalan Jie and Nalan Su, father and son, left, Xiao Zhan went to Xiao Yun's residence, knocked on the door, and entered.
Xiao Yun was sitting in a chair reading. When he saw his father come in, he put down his book and stood up. "Father, why are you here?"
"Nothing much. I just came to see you." Xiao Zhan walked in and sat down in a nearby chair, looking Xiao Yun over with concern in his voice.
"The two from the Nalan Clan have left. You really didn't leave them any room to save face in the hall just now."
However, Xiao Yun merely smiled when he heard that. "They came bearing gifts and thought they could just make this matter go away? It won't be that easy."
"When Nalan Yanran came to break off the engagement, why didn't she think about today? Now that she knows fear, she wants to settle everything with gifts. She's dreaming."
Xiao Zhan nodded at those words. He had only come to see what his son thought. Since Xiao Yun had no intention of dealing with the Nalan Clan, he naturally would not try to persuade him otherwise.
"Fine, as long as you know what you're doing. You can decide what to do about the Nalan Clan. I won't interfere." Xiao Zhan patted Xiao Yun's shoulder.
"But putting that aside, you've truly made me see you in a new light. Who could have imagined that Xiao Zhan's son would become a Dou Emperor? No one like that has ever appeared in the entire history of Wu Tan City."
Xiao Zhan's voice had been full of emotion and excitement as he spoke. The way he looked at his son carried pride and satisfaction.
Back when Xiao Yun had only been at Two-Stage Dou Qi, people had looked down on him everywhere he went. Though Xiao Zhan never said it aloud, it had pained him deeply as his father.
But now things were different. His son had become a Dou Emperor. Who in all of Wu Tan City would dare make another careless remark?
Hearing his father say this, Xiao Yun smiled. "Father, a Dou Emperor isn't that remarkable. There are even higher realms ahead."
"Higher realms?" Xiao Zhan froze for a moment. "Above Dou Emperor are Dou Zong and Dou Zun. Your father wouldn't even dare dream of such things, yet you have quite the ambition."
"A person needs goals." Xiao Yun said it casually, then remembered something else.
"Oh, right, Father. I plan to refine a medicinal pill for you in the next couple of days to raise your strength a little."
Xiao Zhan was completely stunned when he heard this, thinking he had misheard. "What did you say? Pill refinement? You're going to help your father increase his strength?"
"Yes. With my current abilities, refining a pill to help a Da Dou Shi break through a bottleneck won't be a problem." Xiao Yun nodded.
"You're currently a Five-Star Da Dou Shi. After taking that pill, you should be able to break through to the Dou Ling level. Then you'll have some ability to protect yourself if anything happens."
Once Xiao Zhan heard this, his entire body trembled with excitement. His face was filled with exhilaration and disbelief.
Dou Ling!
He had never dared imagine that he could reach the Dou Ling realm in his lifetime. In the past, being a Five-Star Da Dou Shi in Wu Tan City had already made him one of the strongest. A level like Dou Ling was something he had not even dared dream about.
But his son said he would refine a pill for him and directly help him break through to Dou Ling?
"Y-you aren't lying to me, are you?"
"Why would I lie to you?" Xiao Yun smiled and shook his head. "Leave the pill to me, Father. Just wait."
Xiao Zhan nodded heavily, his eyes even turning red. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but found his throat too choked to speak.
So he stood up and patted Xiao Yun's shoulder. A thousand words became a single word. "Good!"
After chatting with Xiao Yun for a few more moments, Xiao Zhan turned and left the residence. Once he stepped out of the courtyard and started walking back, even his steps seemed lighter.
The smile never left his face along the way. He walked forward with his back straight and his head held high, smiling and nodding whenever he encountered servants from the clan who greeted him.
In the past, those servants had shown him respect as well, but he had always felt that they might not truly think much of him. After all, his useless son's reputation was there for all to see, and even he, as the father, had been secretly mocked because of it.
But now it was different. His son was a Dou Emperor, an existence the whole of Wu Tan City had to look up to. Wherever he went, people hurried to curry favor with him as his father.
The more Xiao Zhan thought about it, the prouder he became. The more he thought about it, the more he felt that his life had not been in vain.
From this day onward, no one would dare mock Xiao Zhan's son again.
When Xiao Zhan returned to his residence and sat down, his mind kept replaying everything Xiao Yun had said just moments ago.
Dou Ling—the realm he had never dared dream of in his entire life—was about to become reality.
He took a deep breath, secretly sighing to himself. His son had truly given him an enormous surprise.
All the grievances and contempt he had endured over the years seemed like nothing now. His son had made something of himself, and that was better than anything.
Xiao Zhan sat there thinking for a long time, the smile on his lips never fading.
