Background / History
Xiao Zhan leads the Xiao Clan of Wu Tan City, where his Five-Star Da Dou Shi cultivation is initially regarded as the city’s greatest strength. He is the father of Xiao Yun, his fourth son, and Xiao Yan. 1
When Xiao Ning accuses Xiao Yun of stealing a Yellow-tier fighting technique, Xiao Zhan refuses to accept the evidence at face value. He challenges the lack of eyewitness testimony, demands a proper investigation, and resists the First Elder’s attempt to punish his son. Xun’er’s alibi ultimately clears Xiao Yun. 1
Xiao Zhan is initially stunned to learn that Xiao Yun gave Xun’er a sixth-rank Spirit-Breaking Pill, particularly because Xiao Yun had publicly appeared to possess only Two-Stage Dou Qi. After personally sensing Xun’er’s rise to Six-Star Dou Zhe, he accepts that his son has encountered an extraordinary opportunity and urges Xun’er to keep the matter from the First Elder’s branch. 4 7
His faith in Xiao Yun grows after Xiao Yun defeats Xiao Ning and effortlessly blocks the First Elder’s palm strike. Though unable to explain Xiao Yun’s sudden power, Xiao Zhan accepts his son’s decision to conceal its source and takes pride in his newfound ability to defend himself. 7
When Jia Lie Ao is injured and Jia Lie Bi moves against Xiao Yun, Xiao Zhan immediately goes to the marketplace with guards, convinced that Jia Lie Ao must have provoked his son. He arrives to find Jia Lie Bi dead and the Jia Lie Clan’s leadership destroyed, then rebukes the Second and Third Elders for previously suggesting that Xiao Yun be surrendered. 14 15
Xiao Zhan supports the Xiao Clan’s refusal to accept Nalan Yanran’s unilateral engagement annulment and regards her offer of a fourth-rank pill as an insult to the clan’s dignity. After Xiao Yun protects the clan from Nalan Yanran and Ge Ye, he supports Xiao Yan’s three-year vow to restore his honor. 17 20
Following Xiao Yun’s public revelation as a Dou Emperor, Xiao Zhan becomes openly proud of his son’s unprecedented achievement. He later refuses Nalan Jie’s request to influence Xiao Yun’s decision regarding the Nalan Clan, stating that Xiao Yun must decide for himself. 31 38 39
Personality
Xiao Zhan is a protective and principled father. He consistently defends Xiao Yun from unsupported accusations and political pressure, even when doing so brings him into direct conflict with the First Elder and other clan elders. 1 7 14
As clan leader, he is cautious about threats to the Xiao Clan but does not abandon family members for political convenience. He treats the conflict with Nalan Yanran as an issue of clan honor, while his response to Nalan Jie shows that he respects Xiao Yun’s autonomy rather than exploiting his authority as a father. 17 38
Xiao Yun’s rise brings Xiao Zhan immense pride and emotional relief after years of watching his son be mocked as useless. Despite his admiration, he remains concerned for Xiao Yun’s safety and wishes to see him better able to protect himself. 7 29 39
