Background / History

Xiao Ning is the First Elder’s grandson and benefits from his grandfather’s open favoritism within the Xiao Clan. He attempts to implicate Xiao Yun in the theft of a Yellow-tier mid-level fighting technique, presenting the manual as evidence and claiming he caught Xiao Yun leaving his room. Xun’er’s testimony that Xiao Yun spent the afternoon with her destroys the accusation, leaving Xiao Ning unable to press the matter further 1.

His resentment intensifies after Xun’er publicly protects Xiao Yun and then leaves the hall with him. Xiao Ning, whose feelings for Xun’er are widely known in the clan, watches them from hiding and regards Xiao Yun’s attention from her as intolerable 2.

Personality

Xiao Ning is arrogant, confrontational, and deeply concerned with face. He judges Xiao Yun by his publicly known Two-Stage Dou Qi cultivation and assumes that social pressure, insults, and a public challenge will force him into submission 5 6.

His hostility is driven by both jealousy and wounded pride. He resents Xun’er’s special treatment of Xiao Yun and cannot accept being defeated by someone he considered worthless. Xiao Ning accuses Xiao Yun of stealing a Yellow-tier mid-level fighting technique from his room and presents the manual before the elders. The accusation fails when Xun’er provides Xiao Yun with an alibi, exposing that Xiao Ning cannot substantiate his claim 1.

Challenge at the Clan Square

After Xiao Yun dismisses him with “get lost,” Xiao Ning publicly challenges him and threatens to revive the theft accusation if he refuses. Expecting an easy victory, he offers Xiao Yun three free moves and demands that Xiao Yun kneel, kowtow, and stay away from Xun’er 5.

The offer becomes Xiao Ning’s downfall. Xiao Yun uses the three moves to slap him twice, then kick him into a wall, leaving him unconscious and severely injured before the entire clan square 6.

Fear of Xiao Yun’s Hidden Strength

While recovering, Xiao Ning begs the First Elder for revenge. Instead, he learns that Xiao Yun effortlessly blocked the First Elder’s attack and may already possess Da Dou Shi-level strength; he is instructed not to provoke Xiao Yun until his sudden rise can be investigated 8.
