Background

Medusa rules the Snake-People Tribe in the Tagor Desert. She is alerted when Lu Xia’s breakthrough and refinement of the Green Lotus Core Flame disturb her territory. Believing the Heavenly Flame to belong to her tribe, she confronts him and demands its return, but retreats when she realizes that his Two-Star Dou Zong cultivation overwhelmingly exceeds her peak Dou Emperor strength. 21

Lu Xia prevents her escape, defeats her with poison that seals her battle qi, and takes her captive. Medusa resists fiercely, even attempting to self-destruct rather than become his prisoner. She ultimately accepts Lu Xia’s proposal only because he offers protection for the Snake-People Tribe and a chance to evolve her bloodline and reach Dou Zong. Her power is restored only to the Dou Ling level while she remains under his supervision. 22 24

While traveling with Lu Xia, Medusa encounters Qinglin and recognizes her unusually strong Snake-People bloodline. Qinglin’s awakening of the Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils shocks Medusa, whose own bloodline instinctively reacts to their suppressive aura. Although initially cold toward Qinglin, Medusa begins offering her advice and protection. 29 31

Medusa later intervenes to save the Snake-People Third Elder after he rashly confronts Lu Xia. She orders him to return to the tribe, places the First Elder in temporary charge, and publicly describes her arrangement with Lu Xia as a partnership intended to help her attain Dou Zong. 32 33

After Lu Xia obtains the Sea Heart Flame, Medusa undergoes a painful bloodline evolution. Lu Xia’s control of the Heavenly Flame allows her to retain her memories and consciousness—unlike the anticipated loss of self during the process—while her bloodline evolves into the Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python and her cultivation reaches One-Star Dou Zong. 39 40

Her renewed strength prompts an attempted rebellion against Lu Xia, but he suppresses her in a single exchange. He then uses the Heaven-and-Earth Beast-Taming Scripture to engrave a soul contract into the origin of her soul, preventing her from betraying him and compelling obedience to his commands. 41 42

Following her recovery, Medusa regains a human form and accompanies Lu Xia and Qinglin into the Entwining Snake Mountains. Her Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python bloodline clears Ten Thousand Snakes Gorge without combat, allowing the group to reach Sky Serpent Mansion. 46 49

Appearance

Medusa is initially depicted as a peerlessly beautiful Snake-Person queen with purple hair, violet eyes, pale skin, and a regal, cold presence. Her lower body is a snake tail before her later evolution and transformation. 21 29

Medusa is proud, commanding, and fiercely protective of the Snake-People Tribe. Though personally willing to face death, she cannot accept the possibility that her death would leave her people vulnerable; this responsibility is what forces her to accept Lu Xia’s terms. 23 24

She is intensely resistant to humiliation and repeatedly seeks to reclaim her independence. Her attempted escape, plans for revenge, and later ambush of Lu Xia all stem from her refusal to accept her loss of authority. 25 26 41

Despite her cold exterior, Medusa is capable of loyalty and care. She pleads for the Third Elder’s life, advises Qinglin not to waste her rare bloodline, and gradually becomes gentler toward the younger girl. 33 31 47
