Ch. 61Five Elements Return to One, a Sense in the Chaos

Chapter Summary: “Five Elements Return to One, a Sense in the Chaos”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Dao Xuan continues refining his understanding of the Five Elements Dao. Although the earth element is absent, the remaining metal, wood, water, and fire still form a complete cycle, demonstrating his theory of Five Elements Simultaneous Birth and the Innate Five Elements.
  • He successively removes elements from his Five-Colored Divine Light:
    • Fire disappears, leaving metal, wood, and water.
    • Metal disappears, leaving wood and water.
    • Water disappears, leaving only wood.
    • Finally, even the wood-colored divine light vanishes, leaving behind only the invisible, profound Five Elements Law.
  • This process represents Dao Xuan’s attempt to return the Five Elements Law to its original source and achieve complete unity with it.
  • However, the Five-Colored Divine Light eventually reappears, showing that Dao Xuan has failed to achieve perfect completion. He recognizes that he is only one final step away from attaining the Dao, a gap that can be overcome only through prolonged cultivation or sudden enlightenment.
  • Dao Xuan abruptly senses something connected to his World Tree deep within the surrounding Chaos. Believing it may be another spiritual root, world, or extraordinary opportunity, he leaves his Inner World and ventures alone into the Chaos.
  • Meanwhile, while Dao Xuan is absent, the final war between the Demon Tribe and the Witch Clan erupts in the Primordial World. The Demon Tribe uses the Heavenly Stars Formation, while the Twelve Ancestral Witches summon a phantom of Pangu. Hongjun intervenes, destroys the Pangu phantom, restores the Witches, and establishes the political order that demons rule Heaven and witches govern Earth.
  • Unaware of these events, Dao Xuan follows the mysterious connection through the Chaos and eventually discovers a gigantic world comparable in size and power to the Primordial World.

Character Development

  • Dao Xuan demonstrates increasingly profound mastery of the Five Elements Dao. He moves beyond ordinary elemental generation and restraint, approaching the Innate Five Elements and the unification of the entire law.
  • Despite his extraordinary progress, Dao Xuan acknowledges his limitations. His failure to perfect the law reveals that even immense cultivation, powerful resources, and the assistance of an entire world cannot replace final insight.
  • His curiosity and willingness to take risks become more prominent. Rather than remaining in secluded cultivation, he pursues the mysterious sensation into the unknown Chaos, hoping it may provide the breakthrough he lacks.
  • Dao Xuan also shows growing awareness of the wider cosmos, realizing that the Primordial World is likely only one among many worlds scattered through the Chaos.

Significant Themes

  • Unity beyond duality and classification: The Five Elements are presented not merely as five separate substances, but as a unified principle that can remain balanced even when individual elements are removed.
  • Returning to origin: Dao Xuan’s cultivation progresses from ordinary mutual generation and restraint toward the Innate Five Elements and the ultimate return of the law to its source.
  • The limits of external assistance: Although the world, spiritual roots, and sacrificed treasures greatly accelerate Dao Xuan’s cultivation, they cannot provide the final enlightenment for him.
  • The difference between power and realization: Dao Xuan possesses immense strength and understanding, yet true perfection requires a deeper insight that cannot be forced.
  • The vastness of existence: The discovery of another enormous world expands the story’s scale, suggesting that the Chaos contains countless realms and opportunities beyond the Primordial World.

Character Interactions

  • Dao Xuan’s primary “interaction” in the chapter is with the Five Elements Law itself, as he manipulates and strips away the divine lights to test its essential unity.
  • His connection to the World Tree acts as a mysterious link drawing him toward the unknown world in the Chaos.
  • Hongjun intervenes in the conflict between the Demon Tribe and Witch Clan, overpowering the summoned Pangu phantom and imposing a new balance between the two factions.
  • The Demon Tribe and Witch Clan confront one another through their respective grand formations, but neither ultimately determines the final order; Hongjun’s intervention reshapes the outcome.

Ch. 62Attack

Chapter Summary: “Attack”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Dao Xuan discovers a mysterious Middle Thousand World existing directly within the chaos, an abnormal situation because such worlds normally cannot survive there.
  • Through investigation, he determines that the world is likely connected to the Space Demon God, Yang Mei. Its origin carries the aura of the Space Law, suggesting it was formed from part of Yang Mei’s original Chaos Demon God body.
  • Dao Xuan theorizes that Yang Mei’s true original body was not the Hollow Willow Tree, but a vast region of Chaotic Void. When Pangu struck Yang Mei, a fragment of that void fell into the chaos and eventually developed consciousness, transforming into the Middle Thousand World.
  • The world’s strongest being is probably its own Heavenly Dao—the awakened consciousness of the former Chaos Demon God remnant. Because the Heavenly Dao is inseparable from the world, entering it would be equivalent to entering a deadly trap.
  • Despite the danger, Dao Xuan decides to seize the opportunity. Absorbing the world’s origin could reveal secrets of the Chaos Demon Gods, perfect his Five Elements Law, and help his own inner world advance so he can attain Hunyuan.
  • Since he cannot safely enter the world, Dao Xuan plans to attack it from outside and refine or devour its origin. He takes advantage of the Heavenly Dao’s inability to move while the world remains only a Middle Thousand World.
  • Dao Xuan openly approaches the world, provoking a violent response. The world unleashes a spatial storm filled with destructive divine abilities.
  • Dao Xuan easily neutralizes the attack and counters with the Four Symbols Divine Light, which is greatly strengthened by the surrounding chaos. The attack strikes toward the world’s Heaven and Earth Fetal Membrane.
  • The Middle Thousand World reacts by mobilizing its entire power and forming a huge void vortex that blocks Dao Xuan’s attack.

Character Developments

  • Dao Xuan demonstrates increasingly sophisticated understanding and deduction regarding Chaos Demon Gods and the nature of worlds formed from their remains.
  • His caution develops into firm determination. Although he recognizes that the world may be extremely dangerous, his desire for advancement and the value of the opportunity outweigh his fear.
  • Dao Xuan also reveals his strategic intelligence by identifying the Heavenly Dao’s immobility as its key weakness and choosing to attack from outside rather than enter the world directly.
  • The Middle Thousand World’s Heavenly Dao is established as an intelligent, powerful, and defensive entity. It is no longer merely a passive world law but an awakened consciousness capable of launching coordinated attacks.

Significant Themes

  • Opportunity versus danger: Dao Xuan knowingly risks death to obtain a chance at greater power and enlightenment.
  • Transformation and remnants: The chapter explores how the remains of a powerful being can evolve into an entirely new existence, separate from its original identity.
  • Worlds as living entities: The Middle Thousand World is portrayed as both a physical realm and a conscious organism, with its Heavenly Dao functioning as its mind and strongest being.
  • Strategic cultivation: Advancement depends not only on strength but also on deduction, patience, exploiting weaknesses, and turning environmental advantages—in this case, the chaos—into weapons.
  • The legacy of the Chaos Demon Gods: The mysterious remnants of these ancient beings continue to shape the structure of the cosmos and offer immense but dangerous opportunities.

Character Interactions

  • Dao Xuan’s primary interaction is with the awakened Heavenly Dao of the Middle Thousand World.
  • Their confrontation begins without dialogue: Dao Xuan provokes the world by revealing himself, and the Heavenly Dao responds with spatial storms and destructive techniques.
  • Dao Xuan counters directly with the Four Symbols Divine Light, creating the chapter’s first major clash between him and the world’s consciousness.
  • The confrontation ends unresolved, with the Heavenly Dao successfully blocking Dao Xuan’s initial attack and setting up a larger battle.

Ch. 63Four Divine Beasts Emerge

Chapter Summary: “Four Divine Beasts Emerge”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Dao Xuan attacks the Middle Thousand World with the Four Symbols Divine Light, repeatedly tearing through the resilient void vortex surrounding the world.
  • His attack briefly penetrates the world’s Heaven and Earth Fetal Membrane, allowing him to survey the interior. He discovers that the world appears empty except for beings formed from laws, resembling the divine beasts in his Inner World.
  • The sentient Heavenly Dao of the world counters with a Void River, which expands into a powerful Void Torrent. The torrent repeatedly clashes with and sometimes suppresses Dao Xuan’s divine light.
  • The Heavenly Dao manifests as a gigantic face and identifies itself as Chaos, demanding that Dao Xuan leave its territory.
  • Chaos’s name reveals to Dao Xuan that this is the world of Greek mythology in its primordial stage. He deduces that beings such as Gaia, Tartarus, Erebus, Nyx, and Eros have likely already been formed, while the later Olympian gods have not yet appeared.
  • Dao Xuan declares his intention to break through Chaos’s defenses, refine the entire world, and use it as an opportunity to advance his cultivation.
  • He withdraws the Four Symbols Divine Light, apparently leaving himself open to attack. Chaos responds by launching the Void Torrent at him.
  • Dao Xuan unveils the projection of his Inner World. Its immense power freezes the Void Torrent, causes it to collapse, and destroys the portion of Chaos’s origin contained within it.
  • Chaos suffers a severe backlash and realizes that reconciliation with Dao Xuan is impossible.
  • Dao Xuan summons the four law-formed Divine Beasts of his Inner World—Azure Dragon, Vermilion Bird, White Tiger, and Black Tortoise—and empowers each with one stream of the Four Symbols Divine Light.
  • He commands them to form the Four Symbols Formation and crush the Greek Mythology World.

Character Developments

  • Dao Xuan demonstrates that he is far more powerful than Chaos initially expects. He shifts from testing the world’s defenses to openly declaring his intention to destroy and refine it.
  • He gains crucial knowledge by conversing with Chaos and correctly identifies the world’s mythological origin and current stage of development.
  • Dao Xuan’s hatred toward Chaos is revealed to be instinctive and rooted in the opposing origins of their worlds: Dao Xuan is connected to Pangu and the Primordial World, while Chaos arose from the remains of a Chaos Demon God.
  • Chaos, initially confident in the protection of his domain, becomes shocked and frightened when Dao Xuan reveals the Inner World projection. After suffering damage to his origin, Chaos understands that Dao Xuan is a mortal enemy rather than a temporary intruder.

Significant Themes

  • Cosmic opposition and inherited enmity: Dao Xuan and Chaos are natural enemies because of the incompatible origins of their respective worlds.
  • Worlds as living entities: The Middle Thousand World possesses a sentient Heavenly Dao, making the world itself an active character capable of thought, speech, and combat.
  • Power through inner cultivation: Dao Xuan’s Inner World is not merely a personal domain; its projection can directly suppress and destroy the powers of another world.
  • Mythological convergence: The chapter reinterprets Greek mythology as an actual cosmic world at its primordial beginning, linking its mythic figures to Daoist cultivation concepts.
  • Escalation and conquest: The conflict shifts from a defensive struggle over territory to a planned annihilation and refinement of an entire world.

Character Interactions

  • Dao Xuan and Chaos exchange words while fighting, with Dao Xuan probing Chaos for information about the world.
  • Chaos orders Dao Xuan to leave and boasts that nothing can be done to him within his own territory.
  • Dao Xuan counters with a direct challenge, promising to destroy and refine both Chaos and the world.
  • After Dao Xuan destroys the Void Torrent, the relationship becomes irreconcilably hostile.
  • Dao Xuan then interacts with his four Divine Beasts by empowering them and commanding them to attack together through the Four Symbols Formation.

Ch. 64Struck It Rich

Chapter Summary: “Struck It Rich”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • The Four Divine Beasts—Azure Dragon, Vermilion Bird, White Tiger, and Black Tortoise—begin surrounding the Middle Thousand World to establish the Four Symbols Grand Formation and refine the world.
  • Chaos, the Heavenly Dao of the Middle Thousand World, responds by sending out its five primordial deities:
    • Gaia confronts Azure Dragon.
    • Tartarus battles Vermilion Bird.
    • Erebus engages White Tiger.
    • Nyx and Eros jointly attack Black Tortoise.
  • Gaia, the incarnation of the world’s earth origin, uses her connection to the land to hold back Azure Dragon despite having only Perfected Daluo Golden Immortal cultivation.
  • Tartarus swallows Vermilion Bird’s Southern Bright Li Fire, while Erebus uses darkness to suppress White Tiger.
  • Nyx attempts to hypnotize Black Tortoise with an endless night, while Eros uses desire to corrupt and separate Black Tortoise’s tortoise and serpent bodies.
  • Black Tortoise deliberately pretends to be affected. When his bodies separate, the serpent suddenly expands and swallows Eros whole.
  • Nyx escapes destruction by transforming into intangible darkness, but he becomes trapped in a stalemate: he cannot harm the tortoise, yet cannot leave without being captured.
  • Chaos, realizing his forces are losing, recklessly pours Heavenly Dao origin into the remaining four deities, strengthening them toward breakthrough.
  • Gaia receives a massive earth-yellow trident and wounds Azure Dragon, enraging him.
  • Dao Xuan orders the Four Divine Beasts to retreat after recognizing the trident as an Innate Supreme Treasure.
  • Additional treasures emerge from the Middle Thousand World:
    • Tartarus receives a Top-Tier Innate Spiritual Treasure in the form of lightning.
    • Erebus receives a Supreme-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasure cloak.
    • Nyx receives a Supreme-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasure helmet.

Character Developments

  • Black Tortoise demonstrates exceptional intelligence and composure. He resists Nyx’s hypnosis, deceives both opponents, separates his bodies intentionally, and allows the serpent to swallow Eros.
  • Eros is exposed as the weakest of the five primordial deities. His attempt to corrupt Black Tortoise backfires, resulting in his capture and likely death.
  • Nyx proves more capable of survival than Eros. He abandons offense and turns intangible to avoid being swallowed, though he is left in a desperate and increasingly hopeless position.
  • Azure Dragon suffers his first major humiliation while serving under Dao Xuan. His anger nearly causes him to continue fighting, but he immediately obeys Dao Xuan’s retreat order.
  • Dao Xuan displays caution and strategic awareness. Recognizing the danger of Gaia’s weapon and the unexpected treasures, he prevents the Four Divine Beasts from engaging recklessly.
  • Chaos becomes increasingly desperate. His initial defensive strategy fails, forcing him to exhaust his world-origin and arm his remaining deities with powerful treasures.
  • Gaia, Tartarus, and Erebus are shown to be formidable manifestations of the Middle Thousand World’s fundamental forces, though their strength initially remains limited by the world’s level.

Significant Themes

  • Strategy over brute force: Black Tortoise defeats Eros through deception and timing rather than direct power.
  • The dangers of overconfidence: Eros assumes his manipulation has succeeded, only to be swallowed by the very opponent he intended to control.
  • World-level power and cosmic hierarchy: Gaia’s status as the embodiment of the world’s earth origin gives her immense defensive power despite her relatively modest cultivation.
  • The importance of treasures: The appearance of an Innate Supreme Treasure dramatically changes the balance of battle and forces Dao Xuan to retreat.
  • Desperation and resource expenditure: Chaos sacrifices vast amounts of Heavenly Dao origin to strengthen his servants, revealing the high cost of defending the Middle Thousand World.
  • Discovery and opportunity: The existence of multiple powerful treasures within the world suggests that it contains extraordinary hidden resources, making it far more valuable than expected.

Character Interactions

  • The Four Divine Beasts operate under Dao Xuan’s command, demonstrating their loyalty when they retreat immediately upon his order.
  • Gaia and Azure Dragon clash directly, with Gaia’s earth-based defense countering Azure Dragon’s overwhelming strength.
  • Tartarus neutralizes Vermilion Bird’s fire, while Erebus’s darkness restrains White Tiger.
  • Nyx and Eros coordinate against Black Tortoise, but their cooperation collapses when Black Tortoise turns their plan against them.
  • Eros becomes trapped inside the serpent body, while Nyx is forced into a defensive, intangible form to avoid suffering the same fate.
  • Chaos supports the remaining deities directly, infusing them with his origin and supplying them with powerful weapons, marking an escalation in the conflict.

Ch. 65Battle

Chapter Summary: “Battle”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Dao Xuan is astonished when Chaos unveils four powerful treasures: one Innate Supreme Treasure, one Top-Tier Innate Spiritual Treasure, and two Supreme-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasures.
  • The Earth Trident contains a complete Earth Law, while Tartarus wields a powerful thunderbolt. Dao Xuan compares these treasures with famous Primordial World artifacts and speculates about their connection to Greek mythology.
  • Chaos uses the treasures to reverse the battle. Gaia’s Earth Trident and Tartarus’s thunderbolt, combined with Erebus’s darkness and Nyx’s stealth, suppress Dao Xuan’s Four Divine Beasts.
  • Erebus spreads his cloak into a region of darkness that weakens the Four Divine Beasts. Nyx becomes invisible within it and repeatedly launches ambushes.
  • Unable to withstand the assault, the Four Divine Beasts form the Four Symbols Formation defensively rather than using it to attack the Chaos World.
  • Angered by this reversal, Dao Xuan summons the Azure Abyssal Mysterious Whale from his Inner World.
  • The whale’s arrival alarms both the Four Divine Gods and Chaos, as its strength is comparable to Azure Dragon’s.
  • Seeing the Four Divine Beasts being overwhelmed, the whale becomes enraged because it regards them as respected elders. It immediately charges toward Gaia, apparently targeting the Earth Trident.

Character Developments

  • Dao Xuan remains confident despite the temporary setback. He covets the Earth Trident, recognizing that its complete Earth Law could greatly strengthen his Inner World.
  • Chaos reveals that he possesses far greater resources than Dao Xuan expected, but becomes visibly concerned when the Azure Abyssal Mysterious Whale joins the battle.
  • Gaia and Tartarus demonstrate the decisive offensive power of their treasures, especially against Black Tortoise’s defenses.
  • Erebus and Nyx coordinate effectively: Erebus suppresses the enemy with darkness, while Nyx uses invisibility and ambushes to harass the Four Divine Beasts.
  • The Azure Abyssal Mysterious Whale displays strong loyalty and filial respect toward the Four Divine Beasts, whom it considers its elders despite eventually surpassing most of them in strength.

Significant Themes

  • The value of divine treasures: Complete Great Dao laws make Innate Supreme Treasures vastly more valuable than ordinary spiritual treasures.
  • Battlefield reversal: The conflict demonstrates how powerful artifacts can temporarily overturn an otherwise unfavorable strategic situation.
  • Loyalty and kinship: The whale’s fury is motivated not by personal danger but by seeing its elders attacked.
  • Hidden connections between mythologies: Dao Xuan’s observations suggest that the treasures of Greek mythology may have deeper or altered origins within the wider cosmological setting.
  • Power versus strategy: Chaos’s treasures provide overwhelming force, but Dao Xuan counters by introducing a new combatant rather than relying solely on the Four Divine Beasts.

Character Interactions

  • Chaos equips Gaia, Tartarus, Erebus, and Nyx with treasures and directs them to exploit their advantage.
  • The Four Divine Gods work together to suppress the Four Divine Beasts, forcing the latter into a defensive formation.
  • Dao Xuan responds to Chaos’s offensive by summoning the Azure Abyssal Mysterious Whale.
  • The whale reacts emotionally to the Four Divine Gods’ treatment of its elders and launches a direct attack on Gaia, setting up the next stage of the battle.

Ch. 66Refining the World

Chapter Summary: “Refining the World”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • The emergence of the Azure Abyssal Mysterious Whale shifts the battle decisively against the four deities of Chaos World. Although Gaia wields the powerful Earth Trident, the five divine beasts outnumber and overpower the four deities.
  • The battle remains a stalemate because Gaia’s Earth Trident is exceptionally powerful, forcing the divine beasts to retreat from his attacks.
  • Dao Xuan reveals his ultimate trump card: the Heaven-Earth-Human Three Lamps—Azure Void Heaven-Opening Lamp, Kun Origin Thick Earth Lamp, and Dark Profound Soul-Delivering Lamp.
  • The Dark Profound Soul-Delivering Lamp first disorients the four deities. The three lamps then surround Gaia and form the terrifying Three Talents Demon-Refining Formation.
  • Gaia is gradually weakened and ultimately refined to death despite possessing the Earth Trident. Dao Xuan’s lamps also trap the trident before Chaos can reclaim it.
  • The other three deities are eliminated:
    • Nyx is exposed despite her Invisibility Helmet and swallowed by the Azure Abyssal Mysterious Whale.
    • Erebus is destroyed by a combined attack from Azure Dragon and Vermilion Bird, causing his Night Barrier to disappear.
    • Tartarus attempts to surrender but is forced to self-destruct by the enraged Chaos.
  • With all five deities dead, Chaos—the Heavenly Dao spirit of Chaos World—is left defenseless.
  • Dao Xuan collects the fallen deities’ treasures and origins, including the Earth Trident, Thunder, Dark Cloak, Invisibility Helmet, and the origins of Gaia, Tartarus, Nyx, Erebus, and Eros.
  • White Tiger claims Gaia’s powerful Earth Origin, which could potentially make him the strongest divine beast, though Dao Xuan’s advancing inner world may soon change the balance.
  • Dao Xuan decides to immediately refine Chaos World. Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise form the Four Symbols Formation at the cardinal directions and begin refining the entire Middle Thousand World.

Character Developments

  • Dao Xuan reveals his strategic patience and overwhelming preparation. Rather than relying solely on the divine beasts, he uses the Three Lamps to eliminate Gaia, the greatest threat, and then secures the battlefield’s spoils.
  • Gaia proves to be the strongest of the four deities, but his confidence and power cannot withstand Dao Xuan’s specialized formation. His defeat removes the main pillar supporting Chaos World’s resistance.
  • Chaos becomes increasingly desperate after losing its deities. It attempts to control Tartarus and force him to self-destruct, but this only hastens the destruction of its remaining forces.
  • White Tiger gains an opportunity to increase his strength substantially by absorbing Gaia’s Earth Origin.
  • The five divine beasts work more effectively as a coordinated group, exploiting Gaia’s entrapment to destroy the remaining deities.

Significant Themes

  • Preparation overcoming raw power: Gaia’s supreme treasure cannot protect him from Dao Xuan’s carefully prepared countermeasure.
  • Numerical and strategic advantage: The five divine beasts prevail through teamwork, timing, and coordinated attacks rather than individual strength alone.
  • The collapse of resistance: Once the strongest defender falls, the remaining forces of Chaos World disintegrate rapidly.
  • Power gained through conquest: The defeated deities’ origins and treasures become resources for Dao Xuan and his followers.
  • World refinement and assimilation: The chapter shifts from battlefield victory to the larger process of absorbing and transforming an entire world.

Character Interactions

  • Dao Xuan directs the divine beasts and coordinates the attack against Chaos World.
  • The three divine lamps cooperate to trap and refine Gaia, functioning as a unified weapon against him.
  • The five divine beasts capitalize on Gaia’s entrapment to attack the other deities.
  • Azure Abyssal Mysterious Whale kills Nyx, while Azure Dragon and Vermilion Bird jointly destroy Erebus.
  • Chaos manipulates Tartarus into self-destruction rather than allowing him to surrender.
  • White Tiger claims Gaia’s Earth Origin, demonstrating the distribution of spoils and the continuing competition for greater strength.
  • Finally, the four surviving divine beasts cooperate under Dao Xuan’s instructions to activate the Four Symbols Formation and refine Chaos World.

Ch. 67Greater Thousand World, Proving the Dao!

Chapter Summary

Key events

  • Dao Xuan and the Four Divine Beasts use the Four Symbols Formation to destroy Chaos and its Middle Thousand World. Chaos’s consciousness tries to resist, but Dao Xuan suppresses it while the formation overwhelms the world.
  • Dao Xuan refines the destroyed world into its World Origin, whose core is the Space Law, and brings it into his Inner World.
  • He places the origin in his World Tree, triggering a vast transformation: his Inner World becomes a Greater Thousand World, its three thousand surrounding Lesser Thousand Worlds rise to Middle Thousand Worlds, and some surrounding small worlds begin ascending as well.
  • The completed Five Elements Law allows Dao Xuan to break through and prove the Dao, becoming a Hunyuan Daluo Golden Immortal.

Character development and interactions

  • Dao Xuan reaches a major milestone in power and gains confidence in his ability to face the Primordial World’s Heavenly Dao—though he recognizes he still could not defeat it, he believes he could escape it.
  • The Four Divine Beasts act as his allies, sustaining the formation and helping prevent Chaos from counterattacking. Dao Xuan also directly suppresses Chaos’s consciousness.
  • After the breakthrough, Dao Xuan reflects on how the absorbed origin has strengthened his world. He is especially pleased that the Space Law has advanced so greatly, even thanking Chaos in thought for the unexpected benefit.

Significant themes

  • Destruction as creation: The destruction of one world supplies the origin needed to expand and strengthen another.
  • Cultivation through world-building: Dao Xuan’s personal breakthrough is directly linked to the growth and perfection of his Inner World.
  • Power and independence: Becoming a Hunyuan Daluo Golden Immortal gives Dao Xuan greater freedom within the Primordial World.
  • Ambition and opportunity: Dao Xuan considers seeking out other mythical worlds for their origins, seeing this as a faster path to growth—and a possible alternative to taking treasures from the Primordial World.

Ch. 68Returning to the Primordial World

Key plot points and events

  • Dao Xuan’s inner world undergoes a major transformation: its stars, including the Solar and Lunar Stars, expand tenfold.
  • Dafeng completes his transformation and is born as a Sun-Moon Celestial Roc, a Daluo Golden Immortal who commands the Dao of the sun, moon, yin, and yang. The Azure Abyssal Mysterious Whale also appears in the ocean, establishing two great beasts as rulers of the sky and sea.
  • Dao Xuan declares the Five Elements complete and creates five directional divine beasts: the Azure Dragon, Vermilion Bird, White Tiger, Black Tortoise, and central Qilin. The Qilin forms from the Earth Origin of the Human Realm’s Earth Immortal Realm.
  • Dao Xuan attempts to destroy the Earth Trident and merge its origin into his world, but the treasure proves too powerful. He must refine it and study its Earth Law instead. He gives the Thunder treasure to the Azure Dragon and integrates the Dark Cloak and Invisibility Helmet into the world.
  • With his inner world stabilized and his cultivation consolidated, Dao Xuan returns to the Primordial World. He discovers that more than a hundred epochs have passed and that the Witch Clan and Demon Tribe have fought a devastating battle. Hongjun intervened to prevent Pangu’s projection from annihilating Dijun and the Demon Tribe leadership.

Character developments and interactions

  • Dafeng acknowledges Dao Xuan as Celestial Venerable, not Father God, honoring his birth from Yuanfeng despite Dao Xuan’s role in transforming him. Dao Xuan accepts the title and respects Dafeng’s loyalty to his origins.
  • Dao Xuan continues to act as creator and ruler of his inner world, shaping its laws, making its divine beasts, and deciding the fate of spiritual treasures.
  • The Azure Dragon receives the Thunder treasure, linking it to Dao Xuan’s growing system of divine guardians.
  • Hongjun emerges as a powerful mediator who prevents the Witch-Demon conflict from becoming even more catastrophic.

Significant themes

  • Creation and world-building: Dao Xuan’s inner world grows in scale, laws, and life.
  • Identity and loyalty: Dafeng’s choice of title reflects respect for both Dao Xuan and Yuanfeng.
  • The independence of the Dao: Earth Law can develop into its own complete path rather than remaining merely a fragment of the Four Symbols Law.
  • The cost of power and time: Dao Xuan’s work within his inner world consumes over a hundred epochs in the Primordial World, where conflict continues without him.

Ch. 69Dao Xuan Preached the Dao

Key plot points and events

  • Dao Xuan concludes the Witch-Beast Calamity will not end with the Witch Clan destroying the Demon Tribe: the Heavenly Dao, embodied by Hongjun, will not permit it yet. Even the Witch Clan’s Capital Divine Fiend Formation is unlikely to let them defy heaven.
  • Having attained the Hunyuan Daluo Golden Immortal realm, Dao Xuan returns quietly to Chaos Island rather than announcing his achievement.
  • He discovers that two island residents have taken human form: Xuanming, born from the Enlightenment Tea Tree and master of the Chaos Laws, and Linghu, born from the Gourd Vine and master of the Creation Dao. Both have reached the Daluo Golden Immortal realm.
  • Dao Xuan offers them a choice: leave the island without revealing anything about him, or stay as his disciples. They accept and bow to him.
  • He teaches them the World Dao, while warning that creating an inner world is perilous and that he cannot provide them with World Trees like the Heaven-Piercing Jianmu that helped him.
  • Dao Xuan begins preaching the Dao. The island’s inhabitants gather outside the palace’s boundary to listen, gaining a rare opportunity despite none of them—apart from the new disciples—being Daluo Golden Immortals.

Character developments and interactions

  • Dao Xuan is now confident in his power and more willing to form bonds. He takes disciples not to compete for influence, but because he trusts Xuanming and Linghu and hopes they may become powerful allies for future journeys through other worlds.
  • Xuanming and Linghu are astonished by Dao Xuan’s attainment and accept his offer after recognizing that he has given them only two options. They show gratitude and respect as he shares his cultivation method.
  • Dao Xuan’s warnings emphasize that he cares about his disciples’ choices, even as he gives them a path he knows is dangerous.

Significant themes

  • Heavenly fate and limits of power: Great strength alone cannot overturn the Heavenly Dao’s will.
  • Mentorship and trust: Dao Xuan’s discipleship is based on personal confidence and shared potential rather than a bid for worldly influence.
  • Risk and responsibility in cultivation: The World Dao offers great promise but carries dangers its practitioners must judge for themselves.
  • Knowledge as opportunity: Dao Xuan’s sermon opens a rare path to understanding for the island’s lesser beings.

Ch. 70Nuwa Creates Humans

Key plot points and events

  • After eight centuries of teaching on Chaos Island, Dao Xuan stops preaching and enters secluded cultivation, leaving the island to his disciples, Linghu and Xuanming.
  • Nuwa continues studying the Primordial Purple Qi and advances rapidly, but still cannot sever her Self Corpse, a key obstacle on her path to Sainthood.
  • Seeking inspiration, Nuwa visits Dao Xuan’s hidden island. Linghu and Xuanming greet her as their martial aunt and reveal that Dao Xuan is unavailable.
  • Dao Xuan has left Nuwa three-lights divine water and nine-heavens breath soil. She senses the gifts are important but does not yet know how.
  • On her way home, Nuwa realizes that her path to Sainthood is to create a new race. Seeing her reflection, she shapes a clay figure and animates it with creation qi. It gains flesh and blood but has no intelligence, leaving her puzzled about what is missing.

Character developments

  • Nuwa grows in cultivation and begins to discover her destiny, shifting from inward spiritual practice toward the creative act that will define her path.
  • Dao Xuan remains mysterious and absent, yet his thoughtful gifts suggest he anticipated Nuwa’s breakthrough.
  • Linghu and Xuanming are established as Dao Xuan’s disciples, underscoring his ability to attract beings of extraordinary origins and aptitude.

Significant themes

  • Destiny and insight: Nuwa’s realization comes through observation and reflection rather than deliberate study.
  • Creation and its limits: Forming a living body is not enough; intelligence or spirit is also required.
  • Hidden power and mystery: Chaos Island’s concealment, abundant spiritual energy, and ability to obscure the Heavenly Dao hint at Dao Xuan’s unusual status.
  • The cost of spiritual progress: Nuwa’s growing strength does not automatically resolve her inner attachment or bring her closer to understanding the Self Corpse.

Character interactions

  • Nuwa’s visit reunites her indirectly with Dao Xuan through his disciples; their respectful “martial aunt” greeting reveals their place in his lineage.
  • Linghu and Xuanming explain Dao Xuan’s absence and pass along his gifts, reassuring Nuwa of his consideration.
  • Nuwa’s encounter with her own reflection becomes the decisive prompt for her insight into creating a new race.

Ch. 71Severing the Three Corpses with Merit

Key plot points and events

  • Nuwa realizes the Three Lights Divine Water can provide souls and the Nine Heavens Breath Soil can form bodies, materials Dao Xuan had previously supplied.
  • She mixes them and uses the Creation Law to bring her first clay figure to life. Though only a Heavenly Immortal, it proves her method works and sparks the refinement of the Primordial Purple Qi within her.
  • Nuwa creates more beings by hand, but the effort drains her. Dao Xuan’s disciple Spirit Gourd Fairy arrives with a piece of Gourd Vine that Dao Xuan had told her to deliver.
  • Nuwa uses the vine to fling clay droplets into many more beings. These later creations are less powerful, but making them is far easier. She stops at 129,600 beings, a complete cycle, and keeps one remaining clay figure unanimated.
  • Nuwa announces that she has created the human race to supplement the innate and complete the Three Talents of heaven, earth, and humanity. The Heavenly Dao answers with an immense shower of merit.
  • She directs much of the merit into the clay figure in her hand, transforming it into a woman resembling herself, then uses her to sever her obsession.

Character developments

  • Nuwa moves from uncertainty to understanding and purposeful action. Creating life brings her closer to refining her Primordial Purple Qi and attaining sagehood; she also shows striking generosity by giving much of her merit to the new figure.
  • Spirit Gourd Fairy acts as a helpful messenger, delivering the Gourd Vine without knowing its importance.
  • Dao Xuan remains offstage, but his foresight is emphasized: he had supplied the materials and arranged for the vine to reach Nuwa.

Significant themes

  • Creation and cosmic order: Humanity is presented as completing the Three Talents and complementing the innate world.
  • Merit and spiritual advancement: Nuwa’s act of creation earns extraordinary Heavenly Dao Merit, which also enables her to sever her obsession.
  • Foresight and providence: Dao Xuan’s provisions seem carefully suited to Nuwa’s eventual task.
  • Effort, tools, and scale: Handcrafting produces stronger beings but exhausts Nuwa; the Gourd Vine makes mass creation possible at the cost of lesser cultivation.

Character interactions

  • Nuwa recognizes Dao Xuan’s role in her success and thanks Spirit Gourd Fairy for delivering the vine.
  • Spirit Gourd Fairy watches as Nuwa uses it to create the human race, though she does not understand Nuwa’s comment about her master.
  • Nuwa addresses the Heavenly Dao directly to declare humanity’s creation, then uses the resulting merit to transform a clay figure in her own likeness.

Ch. 72Nuwa Proved the Dao by Severing Three Corpses

Plot points and events

  • Nuwa uses a tiny clay human figure—not the Innate Spiritual Treasure she had prepared—to sever her Obsession Corpse. This completes the severing of all three Corpses.
  • Drawing on the vast merit from creating humanity, Nuwa reunites her Three Corpses and becomes a Saint through the Three-Corpse method, rather than by merit.
  • The remaining creation merit is distributed: one portion goes to humanity, one intended for Dao Xuan reaches his disciple Linghu through their karmic connection, and the last transforms the Gourd Vine into the acquired Merit Spiritual Treasure, the Creation Whip.
  • Nuwa announces that she will establish her cultivation seat in Chaos and preach the Dao. She leaves Linghu to look after the Human Tribe for ten thousand years.
  • Nuwa returns to Phoenix Perch Mountain to celebrate with Fuxi, then uses her power to move the mountain into Chaos as part of her new cultivation seat.

Character developments

  • Nuwa demonstrates exceptional insight by adapting Dao Xuan’s hint and proves the Dao through the reunification of her Three Corpses. Her new status also shifts the balance of power in her relationship with Fuxi.
  • Linghu is overwhelmed by the sudden events, but her teacher’s earlier achievement—proving the Dao by his own World-Proving method—helps her take Nuwa’s sainthood in stride. She inherits both merit and responsibility, without realizing the latter is intended as an opportunity.
  • Dao Xuan remains behind the scenes, allowing Nuwa and Linghu to act without further explanation or intervention.
  • Fuxi is delighted by Nuwa’s success, though he does not understand her decision to move their home to Chaos and accepts her choice.

Significant themes

  • Ingenuity and independent insight: Nuwa succeeds by discerning how to apply a small hint in an unexpected way.
  • Different paths to the Dao: Nuwa’s Three-Corpse method contrasts with Dao Xuan’s unprecedented World-Proving method and the more familiar merit-based path.
  • Merit, karma, and unintended outcomes: Merit reaches Linghu because Heavenly Dao cannot locate Dao Xuan, while the creation merit also produces a powerful spiritual treasure.
  • Opportunity through responsibility: Nuwa’s charge to Linghu appears burdensome but is meant to create a chance for her growth.

Character interactions

  • Nuwa’s success is enabled in part by Dao Xuan’s earlier guidance and the materials he provided through Linghu.
  • Nuwa entrusts Linghu with humanity, leaving her to face an unfamiliar and daunting responsibility alone.
  • Nuwa celebrates her sainthood with Fuxi, then decides to relocate their home despite his confusion, reflecting their newly altered relationship dynamic.

Ch. 73Beyond the Thirty-Three Heavens, Dao Xuan Meets Nuwa

Key plot points and events

  • Nuwa’s sainthood unsettles the Three Pure Ones. Laozi reflects on her achievement, while Yuanshi is frustrated: Nuwa reached sainthood through the Three-Corpse-Slaying path, whereas he has made less progress on that route. Tongtian is untroubled by being surpassed.
  • The Three Pure Ones decide to visit Nuwa’s new dojo in the Chaotic Void, congratulate her, and ask how she became a Saint.
  • On Sumeru Mountain, Jieyin awakens from his cultivation and discusses Nuwa’s ascension with Zhunti. Jieyin believes their own chance to become Saints may be approaching, but worries about the Karma they incurred by taking the positions intended for Hong Yun and Kunpeng.
  • Zhunti and Jieyin decide the time to resolve that Karma has not yet come. They prepare to congratulate Nuwa, though they have little to offer; Zhunti creates three Bodhi Seeds from his true form as a gift.
  • Dao Xuan decides to visit Nuwa openly. He recognizes that the gifts he previously sent her—Three Lights Divine Water, Nine Heavens Breath Soil, and the Gourd Vine—helped reveal the path to her sainthood.
  • At the gathering beyond the Thirty-Three Heavens, Dao Xuan reunites with Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun, then approaches Nuwa with Xuanming.

Character developments and interactions

  • Yuanshi struggles with envy and wounded pride, since Nuwa’s method of attaining sainthood highlights his own limited progress.
  • Laozi remains composed but recognizes Nuwa’s accomplishment and his own incomplete cultivation.
  • Tongtian accepts Nuwa’s success without resentment.
  • Jieyin shows patience and caution, focusing less on the timing of his own sainthood than on the danger of unresolved Karma.
  • Zhunti initially reacts anxiously, then helps prepare a gift and accepts Jieyin’s judgment to wait.
  • Dao Xuan shifts from observing events at a distance to engaging openly with the newly ascended Nuwa.
  • Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun greet Dao Xuan warmly when he arrives.

Significant themes

  • Different paths to power: The chapter contrasts merit, Three-Corpse-Slaying, and Law-Proving approaches to sainthood, and suggests that one’s chosen path shapes later strength.
  • Ambition and acceptance: Yuanshi resents being surpassed, while Tongtian accepts it; Jieyin and Zhunti care more about attaining sainthood than being first.
  • Karma and consequence: Jieyin and Zhunti’s gains carry a lasting moral and spiritual debt tied to Hong Yun, Kunpeng, and the West’s future.
  • Generosity and influence: Dao Xuan’s earlier gifts helped set Nuwa on her path, showing how seemingly indirect aid can reshape the world.

Ch. 74Dao Xuan's Audacity?

Key plot points and events

  • Dao Xuan arrives to congratulate Nuwa on becoming a Saint, addressing her as “fellow Daoist” rather than “Empress.” The assembled figures assume this is a grave breach of etiquette and expect Nuwa to punish him.
  • Nuwa responds warmly, showing no offense. Dao Xuan presents her with a High-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasure, the nine-petaled Pure World White Lotus, which she gratefully accepts.
  • Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun privately warn Dao Xuan that others may interpret his familiarity as arrogance. They suggest he apologize to Nuwa later. Dao Xuan realizes the misunderstanding but does not explain himself.
  • Nuwa prepares to open her cultivation ground in the chaos. She warns everyone to keep their distance, then uses the Supreme-Grade Red Embroidered Ball to suppress the chaos and hurls it outward, unleashing a tremendous upheaval.

Character developments

  • Dao Xuan remains casually familiar with Nuwa and unaware of how his conduct appears to others. Once informed, he understands their perspective but stays composed.
  • Nuwa is portrayed as gracious and unpretentious despite her new status as a Saint. She accepts Dao Xuan’s gift warmly and confidently demonstrates her power.
  • Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun show concern for Dao Xuan and try to protect him from the consequences of a social misstep.
  • Dijun, Taiyi, Jieyin, and Zhunti retain grudges against Dao Xuan and hope Nuwa’s reaction will give them a chance to see him punished.

Significant themes

  • Status and etiquette: Nuwa’s elevation to Saint changes how others believe she must be addressed, even though Dao Xuan’s familiarity is genuine.
  • Misunderstanding and perception: The crowd mistakes Nuwa’s friendly response for magnanimity and sees Dao Xuan’s manners as arrogance.
  • Power and humility: Nuwa’s immense strength contrasts with her gracious treatment of Dao Xuan.

Character interactions

  • Dao Xuan and Xuanming congratulate Nuwa; Xuanming addresses her respectfully as Martial Aunt.
  • Nuwa warmly accepts Dao Xuan’s congratulations and gift.
  • Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun privately caution Dao Xuan and recommend a later apology.
  • Nuwa warns the gathered figures away before demonstrating the Red Embroidered Ball’s power in the chaos.

Ch. 75His strength revealed, everyone stunned

Key plot points and events

  • Nuwa completes the creation of Taisu Heaven, a lesser thousand world formed from chaos through the separation of clear and turbid qi and the emergence of earth, water, fire, and wind. She fills it with living things and moves her cultivation sanctuary there.
  • She invites the gathered cultivators to hear her expound the Dao. Inside her palace, they discover a second Dao Platform equal to hers.
  • Nuwa invites Dao Xuan to sit on it and reveals that he attained the Dao before she did, and that his guidance helped her attain it. The assembled powers realize he is a Hunyuan Daluo Golden Immortal, though they do not know how he achieved it.

Character developments and interactions

  • Nuwa openly acknowledges Dao Xuan’s precedence and status, showing gratitude and respect.
  • Dao Xuan remains largely unimpressed by Nuwa’s world-creation, having created and destroyed worlds himself. His previously hidden strength is now exposed to the gathered cultivators.
  • Dijun and Taiyi, who had considered confronting Dao Xuan over past grievances, become fearful of provoking him further.
  • Jieyin advises Zhunti to avoid future conflict with Dao Xuan; Zhunti agrees.
  • The Three Pure Ones react differently: Laozi’s thoughts remain unreadable, Yuanshi shows jealousy, and Tongtian feels conflicted admiration.

Significant themes

  • Concealed power and reputation: Dao Xuan’s quiet attainment forces others to revise their view of him, from arrogance to deliberate restraint.
  • Recognition and hierarchy: Nuwa’s equal-height platform publicly affirms Dao Xuan’s standing alongside a Saint.
  • Creation and insight: Nuwa’s world-making astonishes most observers, while Dao Xuan’s greater experience highlights how differently each cultivator understands such feats.
  • Power reshaping relationships: Once Dao Xuan’s strength is known, past rivalries and grievances give way to caution.

Ch. 76Dao Xuan Preached, and Hongjun Was Stunned

Key plot points and events

  • Dao Xuan attends Nuwa’s sermon on the Creation Dao. Nuwa modestly admits her understanding is incomplete, but Dao Xuan recognizes her as the Primordial World’s foremost authority on creation.
  • Nuwa preaches for 800 years, then playfully invites Dao Xuan to speak. He teaches the Five Elements Dao for 1,000 years, openly explaining its principles and subtleties.
  • Hongjun observes from Zixiao Palace and is surprised: he expected Dao Xuan to have attained the Dao through the Four Symbols Laws, not the Five Elements Law. He recalls that Dao Xuan’s earlier sermon had also laid groundwork for Hongjun’s own explanation. Though briefly annoyed, he accepts that both routes lead to law-based Hunyuan attainment.
  • After the sermons, Dao Xuan leaves with Zhen Yuanzi, Hong Yun, and his disciple Xuanming. Nuwa’s remaining guests—the Three Pure Ones, Jieyin, and Zhunti—ask how to become Saints, but Nuwa can offer little guidance because the Heavenly Secrets conceal their individual paths.
  • Alone with Fuxi, Nuwa confirms that Dao Xuan likely proved the Dao through the Five Elements Law. The siblings laugh together, content that Nuwa’s life in Chaos frees them from worldly power struggles.

Character developments and interactions

  • Dao Xuan demonstrates both humility as a listener and confidence as a teacher, sharing his mastery without reservation. He also arranges to speak privately with Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun.
  • Nuwa shows modesty about her sermon, then reveals a playful side by drawing Dao Xuan into preaching. She is unable to provide her disciples with a clear route to sainthood.
  • Hongjun shifts from suspicion and irritation to reluctant acceptance of Dao Xuan’s achievement.
  • Fuxi and Nuwa share an easy, trusting exchange, united in their understanding of Dao Xuan and their freedom from worldly affairs.

Significant themes

  • Different paths to enlightenment: Dao Xuan’s Five Elements Law and Hongjun’s expected Four Symbols path both lead to Hunyuan attainment.
  • Limits of knowledge: Even Saints cannot see the Heavenly Secrets governing others’ paths to sainthood.
  • Teaching and learning: Nuwa and Dao Xuan respect one another’s expertise and benefit from sharing their understanding.
  • Freedom from worldly conflict: Nuwa and Fuxi’s life in Chaos represents a deliberate retreat from political struggles.

Ch. 77Reunion with Hongjun at Zixiao Palace

Key plot points and events

  • After leaving Taisu Heaven, Dao Xuan is summoned by Hongjun and asks Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun to take his disciple Xuanming back to the Primordial World without him.
  • He travels to Zixiao Palace, where Hongjun receives him in a newly simplified hall. Dao Xuan notices a painting of Pangu’s Yin-Yang Taiji Diagram and asks about it; Hongjun explains that he follows the Order Dao, though he studies the diagram.
  • Hongjun reminds Dao Xuan of a promise he made and asks him not to forget it, despite the slim chances of success.
  • Hongjun also warns Dao Xuan that proving his Dao does not place him above the Heavenly Dao: he must not act as though he can defy its order.
  • Hongjun hints that Dao Xuan may need the abilities of his former teacher if he ever goes against heaven. Dao Xuan realizes Hongjun still believes Yang Mei was his teacher and decides to correct the misunderstanding.

Character developments and interactions

  • Dao Xuan remains powerful but casual and evasive, keeping the truth about how he proved his Dao to himself. He respects Hongjun, but responds to his frustration with flattery and humor. He now feels strong enough to stop relying on Yang Mei’s reputation.
  • Hongjun is exasperated by Dao Xuan’s apparent forgetfulness, yet plainly enjoys his irreverence more than the usual deference he receives. Beneath the teasing, he is genuinely concerned about Dao Xuan’s limits and the Heavenly Dao.
  • Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun readily agree to escort Xuanming home while Dao Xuan attends to Hongjun.
  • The meeting is a familiar, teasing exchange: Hongjun threatens to knock Dao Xuan with Dong Wang Gong’s returned Dragon-Headed Staff, while Dao Xuan placates him rather than escalating matters.

Significant themes

  • Power has limits: Even after proving his Dao, Dao Xuan remains beneath the Heavenly Dao.
  • True strength versus borrowed reputation: Dao Xuan recognizes that relying on Yang Mei’s supposed identity is no longer necessary—and could create dangerous misunderstandings.
  • Trust and obligation: Hongjun’s reminder shows that their relationship includes a promise, not just banter or deference.

Ch. 78The Truth of Hongjun's Dao Integration

Key events

  • Hongjun explains that Pangu’s creation of the Primordial World left its Heavenly Dao permanently incomplete: it lacks the “one” that would make it equal to the Great Dao.
  • Hongjun integrated with the Dao to use his Order Dao to repair flaws in the Heavenly Dao’s workings. This cannot fix the underlying absence, but it can stabilize the world and postpone its destruction.
  • Dao Xuan realizes that Hongjun’s past interventions—including restraining the Witch and Demon tribes, later promoting the Human Tribe, and eventually limiting the Saints—were attempts to keep the world from collapsing.
  • Despite Hongjun’s efforts, the Saints’ conflicts and successive calamities worsened the damage. Hongjun was gradually assimilated by the Heavenly Dao, and the Primordial World ultimately remained doomed to face the Immeasurable Calamity.
  • Hongjun sees Dao Xuan, the world’s only Primordial Daluo Golden Immortal to have attained the Dao through the Law-Proving route, as a new source of hope who can act where Hongjun cannot.
  • Moved by Hongjun’s sacrifice, Dao Xuan pledges to help him. He then hesitantly reveals that his achievement may not truly be Law-Proving Dao after all.

Character developments and interactions

  • Hongjun is revealed as self-sacrificing rather than self-serving: his merger with the Dao was meant to preserve the world, though it also cost him his independence and freedom to act.
  • Dao Xuan shifts from curiosity to reverence and commitment. He recognizes the limits of Hongjun’s power and offers to assist, but his final confession suggests his own status may be more complicated than it appeared.
  • Their exchange moves from Hongjun’s suspicion that Dao Xuan might be connected to Yang Mei to a candid explanation of Hongjun’s purpose, ending on Dao Xuan’s ominous disclosure.

Significant themes

  • Sacrifice and duty: Hongjun gives up his independent existence to prolong the world’s life.
  • Fate and limitation: Neither Hongjun nor any other being can supply the missing part of the Great Dao or fully prevent the world’s eventual destruction.
  • Power and responsibility: The Saints’ selfish struggles undermine attempts to preserve order.
  • Hope amid an incurable flaw: Dao Xuan may offer Hongjun a way to act more effectively, even if he cannot ultimately repair the root cause.

Ch. 79Taiji Realm

Key plot points and events

  • Dao Xuan explains his World-Proving Dao method to Hongjun, startling him with a path unlike the traditional Law-Proving Dao.
  • Hongjun inspects Dao Xuan’s inner world, now a Greater Thousand World supported by the World Tree. He praises its unprecedented structure and concludes it could offer a way to free him from the Heavenly Dao.
  • Dao Xuan’s help is partly motivated by a practical hope: Hongjun’s connection to the Primordial World might help locate other unusual worlds whose origins could accelerate Dao Xuan’s own world toward becoming an Origin World.
  • Hongjun explains that he and the Heavenly Dao are so deeply fused that separating them carelessly could destroy his true spirit—or collapse the Great Desolate Heavenly Dao.
  • Hongjun identifies two possible routes to separation: mastering the Law of Order and surpassing the Heavenly Dao, or—during the upheaval at the end of a great calamity—having Dao Xuan use the power of Hunyuan Taiji to extract Hongjun’s true spirit. His Dao fruit would have to remain in the Heavenly Dao to sustain it.
  • To reach Hunyuan Taiji, Dao Xuan must perfect a second complete law and fuse it with the first. Hongjun explains that World-Proving Dao may make this more attainable because its laws are already integrated within the world from the outset.

Character developments and interactions

  • Hongjun shifts from near despair to cautious hope after seeing Dao Xuan’s world. He openly acknowledges Dao Xuan as a peer and trusts him enough to reveal the danger and conditions of separating from the Heavenly Dao.
  • Dao Xuan demonstrates confidence in his pioneering method and is candid about both his wish to help Hongjun and his interest in finding resources for his world. He accepts the title of “Fellow Daoist” as an equal.
  • Their relationship becomes more reciprocal: Hongjun once spared and assisted Dao Xuan, and now Dao Xuan may be able to repay that debt.

Significant themes

  • Innovation and the nature of cultivation: World-Proving Dao offers a distinct alternative to conventional Dao-Proving.
  • Interdependence and risk: Hongjun’s survival is bound to the Heavenly Dao, making liberation potentially catastrophic.
  • Reciprocity and trust: Past aid creates a bond that now gives both characters reason to cooperate.
  • Ambition alongside altruism: Dao Xuan’s desire to help Hongjun coexists with his practical goal of advancing his own world.

Ch. 80Meeting Zhen Yuanzi Again

Chapter Summary: “Meeting Zhen Yuanzi Again”

  • Hongjun explains the limits of Dao Xuan’s power. He warns that even a Hunyuan cultivator cannot disregard the Great Desolate Heavenly Dao, which can destroy a Primordial Daluo Golden Immortal if provoked. The Taiji Realm can approach the Heavenly Dao in essence and ultimately transcend it; the Wuji Realm is identified with Pangu’s level, or a “half-step Great Dao Realm.”
  • Dao Xuan tries to obtain resources from Hongjun. He jokingly asks for hundreds or thousands of spiritual treasures and roots. Hongjun refuses, explaining that innate treasures are vital to the world and that the treasures he previously gave Dao Xuan have already been used.
  • Dao Xuan reveals what he really wants. He asks Hongjun to alert him to other worlds hidden in the chaos, hoping they might help him advance to Hunyuan Taiji. Hongjun says he has found such worlds, but their Heavenly Daos are typically absorbed when they come into contact with the Primordial World. He also cautions Dao Xuan to use his own world sparingly within the Primordial.
  • Hongjun offers a substitute gift. Unable to provide other treasures without harming the Primordial, he gives Dao Xuan a diagram containing the law-patterns of the Taiji Diagram for study. Dao Xuan accepts and leaves Zixiao Palace.
  • Dao Xuan returns to Longevity Mountain. He reunites with Zhen Yuanzi, Hong Yun, and his disciple Xuanming, then speaks with Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun at Five Villages Temple. Though his status has risen greatly, Dao Xuan remains informal with his old friends.
  • The group discusses cultivation. Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun have not proved the Dao. Zhen Yuanzi continues pursuing the Earth Law through the Law-Proving path, aided by the Earth Book and Ginseng Fruit Tree. He is at mid-stage Primordial Golden Immortal, but admits his cultivation has been stalled for two hundred thousand years. Hong Yun possesses Primordial Purple Qi but has yet to discover how to become a saint.

Character Developments and Themes

  • Dao Xuan is ambitious and resourceful, seeking ways to reach a higher realm, but his joking request for treasures gives way to a more serious plan. He also accepts that Hongjun will not compromise the Primordial for his sake.
  • Hongjun acts as mentor and guardian of the world: he teaches Dao Xuan about the hierarchy of realms, refuses to endanger the Primordial, and still helps by offering the Taiji-law diagram.
  • Zhen Yuanzi is earnest but frustrated by the slow, difficult path of proving the Dao through law.
  • Hong Yun remains uncertain despite possessing Primordial Purple Qi, showing that having a potential route to sainthood does not guarantee understanding how to follow it.
The chapter emphasizes the danger of underestimating cosmic forces, the cost of pursuing greater power, and the tension between personal advancement and protecting one’s world. It also contrasts Dao Xuan’s rapid progress with the long uncertainty facing his friends.
