The Eye of Ambition's remains spun as they fell into the cave, soon vanishing into the deep darkness.
Xia Lun waited several minutes but heard no heavy impact. He turned and strode over to the brigadier general's corpse.
He did not throw the body in right away. First, he searched its clothes.
Rain had soaked the brigadier general's clothes through, leaving them cold and heavy to the touch. The grueling battles had also left the fabric covered in blood, mud, and strange scraps Xia Lun could not identify.
The scraps and slime had dried in the warm sunlight and hardened into clumps. They looked disgusting.
Xia Lun did not mind. He crouched and searched every inch of the brigadier general's clothing. His efforts paid off.
He found a small, exquisitely made box in an inner pocket.
"That fight was so fierce, and this wooden box didn't break?" Xia Lun raised an eyebrow. With a flick of his fingers, he released its delicate lock.
Click.
The box slowly opened. Xia Lun looked down and frowned.
Inside was a severed hand!
A shriveled, blackened hand that looked like a black tree root!
"That's a bit much, isn't it?" Xia Lun muttered. "Then again, a Lich carrying a severed hand does fit the image. Better check the Information Panel. Panel, activate!"
He focused on the strange hand in the box. Soon, lines of cobalt-blue information welled up beside it.
