Their transportation was a super truck used by Yunsheng Company to haul cargo. A driver happened to be heading back to Olivine City, so he gave the three of them a lift.
Even though riding in a cargo truck was an awful experience, Ecruteak City currently had no car rental business, and the long-distance buses that normally ran to Olivine City had temporarily stopped service. They had no room to be picky.
If they insisted on going, they could either walk there themselves, ride Pokémon there, or hitch a ride.
There were only those two options.
Heiduo personally did not care much. To him, the latter two options were no different.
Besides, Johto had been building modern highways over the past two years. They no longer had to cross mountains and wind through hills and mountain ranges like before.
The distance between cities had consequently shrunk considerably.
Trips that once took at least an entire day of driving now took no more than eight hours, greatly reducing the time spent traveling.
Once interregional maglev trains were operational in a few years and expanded throughout Johto, the distances between cities would shrink even further.
Of course, they would never be faster than riding Flying-type Pokémon. The straight line between two points would always be the shortest.
"Johto has developed so quickly."
Looking out through the narrow window of the cargo truck at the asphalt highway, Wilton, the fishing uncle, let out a sigh.
"I don't even know how many years ago I last came to Johto... The changes are enormous. If this keeps up, even Kanto won't be able to keep up."
