"I hope I'm not too late!"
Richard took a deep breath, spreading his spiritual energy to envelop the nearby body of his alter ego.
"Kill, kill, kill... Avenge me... Kill, kill, kill..."
The moment their spiritual energies touched, a wave of resentment full of unwillingness surged from the alter ego's spirit straight into Richard's mind.
"Such heavy resentment?!"
"Huh? No!"
Richard snapped his eyes open, his face full of shock.
"Could it be..."
Suppressing his surging joy, he spread his spiritual energy again to envelop the alter ego's body.
"...Avenge me... Kill, kill, kill..."
Feeling the resentment within the alter ego's spirit, Richard continuously transmitted a message through their spiritual connection.
"Your unwillingness, your hatred, I will fulfill it for you!"
As Richard repeated it over and over again.
The alter ego's spirit seemed to find release, transforming into a stream of water that merged into True Ego's spirit.
Feeling the instantly surging total amount of spiritual energy, a flash of surprise crossed Richard's eyes.
"This is my true Golden Finger!"
"Spiritual Sharing!"
"Blending spirits with alter egos across ten thousand realms, sharing while alive gives mutually +1 to spiritual energy!"
"Merging when dead adds +1 to True Ego spiritual energy, but any lingering resentment in the alter ego's spirit must first be cleared."
"No wonder the previous Dream Fusion had the huge flaw of personality disorder!"
"The alter ego spirit fused via Dream Fusion was tainted with the resentment of the deceased alter ego; if that resentment wasn't resolved, it would constantly surface and erode True Ego."
Thinking of the alter ego's resentment in this world...
Richard lowered his head and gazed with icy eyes at the armed personnel with guns approaching the alter ego's body, slowly reaching out to pull the Wand of Watoomb from his waist and leaping down from the container.
At that moment, a gray-bearded military man rushed out with a panicked expression. Seeing the body of the alter ego not far away, he instantly flew into a rage.
"Fuck! Who told you to open fire?"
After cursing, the gray-bearded man sprinted to the alter ego's body, squatted down, and reached out to press against his neck.
A moment later, he snatched the military cap off his head and slumped despondently to the ground.
"It's over, I'm dead meat this time!"
Richard, who had already lurked behind a soldier, paused slightly upon hearing the gray-bearded man's words.
Huh? There was a mastermind behind this group?
Richard narrowed his eyes, opened a portal behind himself, and stepped back into it.
The lucky soldier only felt a chill on the back of his neck and quickly turned to look behind him, but saw only a lingering trace of gold-and-red energy.
The gray-bearded man scrambled up from the ground, turned around, and cursed.
"Don't just stand there like damn pillars!"
"Get over here right now!"
Two unfortunate fellows were kicked in the backside by their colleagues and sent stumbling out.
With dark expressions, they turned back to glare at their unprincipled comrades, lowered their guns with depressed looks, and ran over.
"Carry the body and follow me!"
The gray-bearded man put on his military cap and strode hurriedly back the way he came.
His two subordinates bent down to lift the body, jogging closely behind.
Inside a shipping container that had been converted into an operating room.
It was currently in disarray with surgical instruments scattered all over the floor, and a female doctor in a white lab coat was cleaning up the mess.
"Dr. Helen!"
As soon as the gray-bearded man stepped through the door, he shouted anxiously.
"You two idiots, get in here fast."
He turned around and cursed in exasperation as his two subordinates carried the body inside.
"Set him down on the bed slowly! I fucking told you to be slow!"
Watching his subordinates' rough movements, the gray-bearded man felt a liver-wrenching ache.
"Dr. Helen, take a look!"
"Captain Richard, you guys are..."
Dr. Helen put down the stainless steel tray in her hand, and upon seeing the seven or eight bullet holes covering the corpse's chest, she gasped in shock.
"So many bullet wounds?!"
Hearing this, the facial muscles of Captain Richard twitched. He turned around and glared fiercely at his two subordinates.
The two subordinates exchanged glances, wearing aggrieved expressions.
We weren't the ones who fired...
"Dr. Helen, please, save him one more time!"
Captain Richard pleaded anxiously.
Dr. Helen carefully examined the body's wounds and shook her head regretfully.
"I can't save him. There are too many wounds on his body; a resurrection surgery requires an intact corpse, but both his heart and lungs have been riddled with bullets."
"Fuck, I'm finished!" Richard snatched the military cap off his head once more, a look of despair on his face. "The boss wanted to get a piece of important intelligence from this guy's brain, but now that he's dead, where am I supposed to get the important intelligence the boss wants!"
Upon seeing this, the two subordinates behind him wore gloating expressions.
The next second, Richard's curious voice rang out.
"Resurrection surgery? Interesting, can you explain it in more detail?"
The sudden voice startled everyone in the operating room. Richard and his two subordinates immediately drew their guns and aimed at the direction from which the voice came.
However, the next second, a shimmering white energy whip lashed out like a snake, splitting into three strands in mid-air and wrapping respectively around the wrists of Richard and his two subordinates.
Richard crooked a finger, and the energy whip tightened.
"Crack!" x 3
The arms of Richard and his men snapped in two, and the firearms in their hands dropped straight to the ground.
"Ah!" x 3
"What the hell is this thing?"
The gray-bearded man Richard let out a cry of agonizing pain, staring in horror at the energy whip around his wrist.
"Sorry, you guys need to take a good nap!"
With that, Richard flicked his wrist, and the three of them were hurled straight up into the air.
With a "bang," they crashed into the ceiling of the container, and with a "thud," they slammed down onto the floor.
Looking at the three sleeping with absolute tranquility, Richard dismissed the energy whip and turned to Dr. Helen, who was covering her mouth in shock.
"Dr. Helen, could you explain the resurrection surgery in detail?"
"Oh, right, my main profession is also a doctor, and I'm very interested in some of the world's cutting-edge experimental medical technologies."
Dr. Helen trembled with fear: "Y-You..."
Richard spread his hands helplessly: "Come on, Dr. Helen, doctors understand doctors..."
"So can you explain in detail why you are working here? Who is the boss behind this operating room? And what is this so-called resurrection surgery you mentioned?"
To protect herself, Dr. Helen had no choice but to stumble through answers to Richard's questions.
"So the boss behind you is the Red Mountain Group, and the resurrection surgery—which is experimental resurrection technology—is meant to infinitely resurrect soldiers?"
Richard looked at Dr. Helen, asking with a frown.
Dr. Helen nodded hurriedly: "Yes, everything I said is true, I'm not lying, sir!"
"Well, as expected, all scientific progress in this world is inseparable from the factor of war," Richard complained powerlessly, before suddenly shifting the tone of his conversation. "Do you have all the data on the experimental resurrection technology here?"
Dr. Helen: "Yes, all the experimental data and technical documentation are saved on the computer here."
"Very good, please help me make a copy."
Richard flashed a gentle smile, a faint idea forming in his mind...
It seemed that every parallel world possessed some unscientific black technology...
