Background

Richard’s damaged transmigrating soul arrived in the Marvel world six years before the main events. The original owner of his body had committed suicide; Richard’s soul instinctively devoured the original soul to repair itself, triggering Spiritual Sharing and revealing the original Richard as his Marvel-world alter ego. Total Evolution then freed his body from death and allowed him to evade Mephisto’s soul harvesting 151.

The original body’s parents had died, leaving a substantial inheritance. Richard entered Columbia University’s medical school at sixteen and completed a doctorate in four years; the merged souls made him unusually intelligent even before his supernatural growth began 1.

Before learning magic, Richard endured recurring nightmares of violent deaths. Surviving them repeatedly strengthened his body, though he viewed the ability as a psychologically punishing curse rather than a desirable gift 1.

Personality

Richard is inventive, irreverent, and intensely curious. He treats spells and magical artifacts as systems to be tested, modified, and reverse-engineered, producing original magic rather than relying solely on established Kamar-Taj techniques 14 100.

He is also highly cautious and strategic. He negotiates favorable terms with S.H.I.E.L.D., investigates conspiracies through magic and technology, and exploits opponents’ fears, vanity, secrets, or desperation to recruit them 37 45 85 111.

His confidence can become theatrical or ruthless. Richard uses overwhelming force to dominate enemies and followers, yet he has repeatedly reflected on the danger of using high-level magic against ordinary people. The Ancient One later warns that his paranoia and controlling behavior are making him resemble Nick Fury 21 78 376.

Despite his expanding power, he remains playful with friends and protective of people he considers his own, particularly Christine, Professor Jennings, Tony Stark, and his followers 44 45 127 279.

Abilities & Skills

Spiritual Sharing and Total Evolution

Richard’s innate “Golden Finger” links him to alternate versions of himself across parallel worlds.

  • Spiritual Sharing is reciprocal: both Richard and the linked alter ego receive reinforcement after a successful sharing 64.
  • He can merge with or absorb an alter ego’s spirituality; absorbing Richard Bledsoe greatly increased his mana and power 144.
  • The process can be dangerous or morally fraught: Richard’s own existence began with the involuntary devouring of the original Marvel Richard’s soul 151.
  • His growth has repeatedly strengthened his body, soul, memory, comprehension, and magical capacity 1 14 15.

Sorcery

Richard is a formally trained Kamar-Taj sorcerer whose aptitude surpasses that of Kaecilius in Mage Marcus’s estimation 14.

  • Portals and Cross-Dimensional Spells — Travels between locations, dimensions, and parallel worlds; his early Cross-Dimensional Spell was considered too difficult for most sorcerers 15 22.
  • Defensive magic — Uses dimensional barriers, the Rings of Raggadorr, Floating Shield, Ice Block, and other shields. Ice Block can withstand two Pyroblasts but may cause frostbite or oxygen deprivation to ordinary people 40 41.
  • Offensive magic — Employs Pyroblast, Frostfire Bolt, energy whips, sword beams, magical clones, and large blue-white fireballs capable of destroying Iron Monger 21 40 43 126.
  • Stealth and perception — Casts Invisibility and Clairaudient Eavesdropping for reconnaissance and can use portals for rapid pursuit 35 36 41.
  • Spell innovation — Created Brain-Tempering to implant magical knowledge directly into another person’s mind, though the technique severely strains the recipient and cannot be universally applied 101.

Divine and Crimson Mana

Richard’s self-generated energy was identified by the Ancient One as divine power comparable to that of Asgardians 15.

  • His divine power shifted from pale white to crimson following the destruction of Red Mountain Group, becoming known as Crimson Mana 21 23.
  • Crimson Mana can be loaned to believers, who may borrow Richard’s power and train as sorcerers 129 130.
  • It can alter and rebuild bodies and souls through Crimson Believer conversion, increasing compatibility with Richard’s mana and potentially extending lifespan by centuries 177.
  • Richard’s mana can interfere with advanced technology, including Tony Stark’s Arc Reactor 129.

Crimson Dimension Authority

Richard controls the Crimson Dimension, a personal dimensional territory he describes as a divine kingdom 177.

  • As its lord, he can reshape environments on a massive scale, including seas, frozen regions, habitats, and cloud formations 224 306.
  • He expanded the dimension by connecting it to and devouring a Dimension Tomb 116.
  • The dimension serves as a source of Crimson Mana, a training ground, a conversion site, and the foundation of his growing organization 177 224.

Soul, Memory, and Dream Magic

Richard can directly interact with souls, memories, and spiritual corruption.

  • Spirit Vision Retrospection — Extracts recent surface memories from souls; it revealed Eagle’s Nest and Phoenix Biotech through Bald Eagle’s memories 45.
  • Soul separation and restraint — Can forcibly remove a soul from its body, prevent its return, and bind spiritual entities with Crimson chains 44 520.
  • Mental investigation — Can probe memories, though William Samson’s altered mind contained a hidden trap that repelled him 45.
  • Dream intrusion — Entered Alex Zacharia’s dreams to access information about Vormir before destroying Alex’s dream, soul, and body 289.

Physical Enhancement

Richard’s body has surpassed ordinary human limits through Total Evolution and divine development 15 102.

  • Caught a sniper bullet between two fingers and located the shooter 1,500 meters away 144.
  • Survived all thirteen missiles from Tony’s Anti-Richard Armor with only minor scorching 127.
  • His body emits “muscle and bone fragrance,” which stimulates nearby energy and may ultimately develop healing properties capable of curing living beings 116.

Infinity Stone Manipulation

Richard can wield all six Infinity Stones through a Crimson Armament-created energy gauntlet 293.

  • The Stones produce chaotic Mana that harmonizes with and purifies Crimson Mana 293.
  • Within the Crimson Dimension, he can perceive time and space as manipulable threads, alter landscapes, halt motion, reduce matter to sand, and erase dust storms 293.
  • The combined power can destabilize his mind and briefly manifest gray energy in his eyes, requiring restraint and continued cultivation 294.

Equipment and Artifacts

  • Divine Sword 2.0 / Sword of Endless Judgment — Richard’s personalized version of the Sword of Vishanti, powered by his own divine energy rather than dimensional energy 14 15.
  • Crimson Armament — Can form an energy-based Infinity Gauntlet that embeds and channels all six Infinity Stones 293.
  • Cloak of Levitation — Initially rejected Richard, but later willingly attaches itself to him 100 237.
  • Space Stone — Used to seal the space around Kamar-Taj’s grand hall during Old Li’s crisis 195.
  • Bifrost Spirit Mirror — Opens spatial passages to Li Ze’s Mechanoid Profound Realm and supports long-distance communication 221 307.
  • Virtual World Core — A strategic artifact capable of sensory simulations, long-distance communication, digital bodies, training spaces, combat analysis, and custom battle reenactments 221.
  • Pale Wood Armor — Level-45 purple wooden half-armor with life siphoning, periodic shields, and sensitivity to wood-element particles 198.
  • Ape King Heavens-Holding Staff — Doubles Richard’s strength through its “Ape King’s Wrath” attribute 199.

Relationships

  • Christine Palmer / Clea — Girlfriend and later magical partner. Christine repeatedly supports Richard through nightmares, trains at Kamar-Taj, and works alongside him on medical research 1 101 279.
  • The Ancient One — Mentor, evaluator, and predecessor as Sorcerer Supreme. She identifies Richard’s divine potential, teaches him advanced spells, and later challenges his controlling methods 15 116 376.
  • Tony Stark — Close friend, scientific collaborator, occasional rival, and later Crimson Believer. Richard saves Tony from Iron Monger, helps establish his medical laboratory, and repeatedly challenges Tony’s paranoia 43 127 279.
  • Kaecilius — Fellow Kamar-Taj sorcerer and loyal subordinate. Richard works with him on magical expeditions and assigns him leadership roles in large-scale training operations 100 306 308.
  • White Queen — Artificial intelligence under Richard’s protection and authority. She receives servers through Stark Industries and acts as an increasingly independent assistant 86 224.
  • Li Ze — Independent alter ego and “life-and-death bosom friend.” Their relationship combines mutual trust, teasing, shared resources, and frequent disputes over delegated work 219 221 238.
  • Baron Strucker — Former captive turned disciple and first High Priest of the Red Order. Richard redirects Strucker from human experimentation toward magic and advanced research 224 307.
  • Shay and Kenneth Vila — Richard’s first two believers and sorcerer apprentices. Both undergo Crimson conversion and borrow his power 129 177.
  • Natasha Romanoff — Initially approaches Richard undercover for S.H.I.E.L.D.; later acts as a trusted operative and accomplice during the Dark Dimension infiltration 86 333.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Medical Career and Kamar-Taj Training

Richard begins as an acclaimed emergency surgeon at Manhattan Presbyterian Hospital, where he is respected for his medical skill but targeted by Stephen Strange’s professional jealousy. After being fired, he travels to Kathmandu, finds Kamar-Taj, and begins formal magical study 7 12 13.

Red Mountain Group Revenge

Richard targets Red Mountain Group to avenge an alternate Richard who died twice at the organization’s hands. He destroys the group’s headquarters, kills CEO Weitzler, and later coerces the surviving directors into surrendering advanced technologies, including gravity reversal, nanoworm, brain-computer interface, and prosthetic-modification research 20 21 78 79.

Alliance with Tony Stark and S.H.I.E.L.D.

S.H.I.E.L.D. recruits Richard as an external medical consultant, granting him access to institutional resources without requiring daily attendance 37. Parallel-World Exploration

After mastering dimensional travel, Richard enters the Resident Evil world, finds a rookie-police-officer alter ego, and performs Spiritual Sharing while withholding his full power due to distrust 47 48. His later journeys expose him to more alter egos, including the criminal Richard Bledsoe, whose absorption raises Richard to approximately Odin’s level 144.

Formation of the Crimson Faction

Richard subdues the “little snakes” connected to HYDRA, presents himself as the future Sorcerer Supreme, and builds a following around Crimson Mana 85. Shay and Kenneth become his first believers, while the Crimson Dimension becomes the foundation for conversion, training, and organization-building 129 177.

Sorcerer Supreme and Earth Defense

After becoming Sorcerer Supreme, Richard gains the Virtual World Core, appoints allies to manage increasingly complex institutions, and prepares Earth for alien and dimensional threats 221 237. He expands portal infrastructure, proposes soul contracts for Kamar-Taj sorcerers, and positions the Crimson Dimension, Red Order, and Kamar-Taj as linked power structures 358.

Infinity Stone Ascension

Richard acquires and activates all six Infinity Stones, fusing their chaotic Mana with Crimson Mana and gaining reality-altering control within his dimension. He nearly loses control, then removes the residual “Heavenly Disgust” threat hidden in his body 293 294.
