"Ghost!"
Christine screamed in fright at the eerie sight.
Richard tossed his book aside, crossed the distance in two strides, and pulled her into his arms while soothing her repeatedly, "Calm down, calm down! Clea, calm down!"
"Richard!" Christine squeezed into her boyfriend's embrace and shivered, her large, gray-blue eyes brimming with tears.
"There, there. There's no ghost, it's just my hand, look..." Richard comforted her while repeating the exact motion he had just made.
The moment Richard's left palm touched her shoulder, Christine gave a start and cautiously turned her head to look at her left shoulder.
From a basketball-sized, gold-and-red portal, a hand reached out and pressed down on her shoulder.
The girl stared in shock with wide eyes and a slightly parted mouth, "You, you really are a Mage?!"
"I am a Mage~" Richard wore an innocent expression, pretending to be wronged, "Yet you didn't believe me."
"When did you become a Mage?!" Christine crawled out of Richard's embrace and curiously sized up her boyfriend.
"Just last trip to Nepal." Richard reached out with a summon, and the Advanced Grimoire he had discarded earlier flew back into his hand as if it had grown wings.
Christine looked at this magical scene with sparkling eyes, opening her mouth wide like a little girl, "Whoa, so amazing!"
Richard placed the magic book into the girl's hands, "Here, the magic book."
Christine took it with one hand, but the heavy downward pull startled her into quickly wrapping both arms around it.
"Whoa, so heavy!"
She curiously stroked the mysterious patterns on the surface of the magic book, and as her fingers grazed them, streaks of arcane runes flickered faintly.
"Richard!"
Christine abruptly raised her head, revealing a yearning look.
Looking into the girl's bright, fervent eyes, Richard's heart fluttered.
Then he reacted a moment later.
This was the look of a girlfriend craving knowledge...
"Ahem~"
Richard gave a dry cough to mask the embarrassment in his heart, and began to recount the story of how he had bumped into a mysterious mage while traveling in Nepal.
After some artistic embellishment, Richard described his process of going to Kamar-Taj to apprentice and learn magic as full of twists and turns, stirring and magnificent!
The girl's emotions remained high all through the night.
After finishing listening to Richard's journey of studying at Kamar-Taj, she pestered him to tell her about legendary hells and heavens, magical deities, and even heard many secrets of the Multiverse.
Until she was utterly exhausted and began to yawn.
Only then did Richard pick her up and place her on the bed.
He looked at the girl, who was emitting light snores and smacking her lips from time to time.
Richard's eyes were filled with doting affection. He lowered his head to kiss the girl's smooth forehead, carefully tucked her in, and turned to exit the bedroom.
At midnight, Richard lay on the sofa flipping through the Advanced Grimoire, which recorded numerous advanced magics of Kamar-Taj.
For example, the Winds of Watoomb, the Bolts of Balthakk, the Ancient Body of Hoggoth, the Shield of the Seraphim, the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak, and so on.
Yet compared to these powerful magics originating from dimensional deities or renowned mages, Richard had a soft spot for several elemental magics recorded within.
Hydrokinesis, pyrokinesis...
Perhaps based on these few elemental magics, he could develop some practical spells.
For instance, ice chains, flame rings, and the like.
Richard's brain worked at high speed, and for a time inspiration flowed, with countless ideas flashing through his mind one after another.
Creak~
Hm?
Richard abruptly slammed the magic book shut and looked up toward the ceiling.
His gaze seemed to pierce through layer after layer of flooring, seeing several people moving about on the roof.
There were people on the roof!
And also...
He shifted his gaze toward the door.
There were also a few people by the door, rapidly approaching!
Even though the sound was extremely faint, Richard clearly caught the friction of shoe soles against the ground with his super-enhanced hearing.
One, two, three...
The footsteps of the fourth person at the very end were the heaviest!
Either this person's physique was the tallest and sturdiest, or he was carrying heavy weapons like an RPG!
Richard placed the magic book on the coffee table, stood up, formed hand seals with both hands, and silently chanted a spell.
The air inside the living room shattered like glass, the cracks spreading into pieces of transparent rhombus-shaped spatial fragments that rapidly connected to form a closed, mirror-like world.
The next second, the Mirror Dimension expanded abruptly, instantly swallowing the whole apartment building.
Crack~ Crack~
Bang!
The windows and doors were breached by the intruders almost simultaneously.
Bang-bang-bang-bang-bang~
Gunshots rang out abruptly. The intruders opened fire the moment they saw Richard.
A barrage of orange bullets swept toward him.
"Humph~"
Richard gave a cold snort, and the space within the living room instantly froze.
The fired bullets were suspended in mid-air, and the exposed eyes of the fully armed intruders looked exceptionally vicious.
Richard raised both hands and drew a semicircle in the empty air.
The terrain of the living room rapidly twisted and deformed, and the spaces where the intruders at the window and the doorway stood each rotated ninety degrees.
When the transformation finished, the frozen bullets and the muzzles of their guns were shockingly aimed right at each other.
The next second, space thawed, and the orange barrage in mid-air vanished in the blink of an eye.
"Ugh... Ah..."
Bullets pierced into human bodies, blooming with clusters of crimson blood flowers. The intruders let out a succession of low, agonizing screams and collapsed to the ground one after another with gunshot wounds.
"Who are you people?"
"Who is the man behind the scenes?"
Richard's expression was indifferent, his cold voice brimming with peerlessly fierce killing intent.
The intruders who had fallen to the ground and were not yet dead glanced at each other, suddenly drew their pistols, pressed them against their chins, and pulled the triggers without the slightest hesitation!
Bang-bang-bang~
"Damn it!"
Richard's expression changed. With a stomp of his foot, he arrived beside the intruders like a flash.
He squatted down and checked them one by one; this group of intruders was completely dead.
"Mission failed, commit suicide by shooting directly!"
"This kind of ruthless style doesn't look like mercenaries or an assassin syndicate..."
"It must be dead soldiers meticulously trained since childhood by some secret force!"
Having reached this conclusion, Richard's expression turned exceptionally ugly.
"These guys are coming for me!"
Thinking of how the intruders had opened fire the moment they saw him without a shred of hesitation in the entire process...
The mastermind behind the scenes had issued a kill-on-sight order!
"No, Clea can't stay here anymore!"
Richard waved his hand to dismiss the Mirror Dimension and strode into the bedroom.
"Clea, wake up!"
Richard gently shook the soundly sleeping girl on the bed.
"Mmh~ Is it dawn?"
Christine opened her eyes in a daze, and upon seeing Richard, she revealed a super-sweet smile.
"Richard~"
Regrettably, Richard had no time to appreciate this sweet scene, and he urged urgently.
"Get up quickly, Clea!"
"Some assassins broke in just now, though I've wiped them all out!"
"But it's no longer safe here!"
"We must leave immediately!"
Richard's words blew past like a gust of wind through Christine's dazedly muddled little head.
By the time it registered, her eyes instantly widened like copper bells.
"As-, Assassin???"
