Bang, bang, bang~
A knock came at the door, and Mrs. Pangborn, who was wiping down Jonathan, hurried to answer.
"Coming, coming!"
Screeech~
Mrs. Pangborn pulled the door open and was both surprised and delighted to see Richard standing outside.
"Doctor Sir?! Why are you here?!"
Richard pressed his palms together. "Mrs. Pangborn, long time no see. Here, you can call me Sorcerer Richard."
Mrs. Pangborn hastily bowed in return. "Long time no see, Sorcerer Richard!"
As she straightened up, the old woman smacked her forehead in a start and hurriedly invited him in.
"Sorcerer Richard, quickly, please come in!"
"Jonathan, look who's here!"
They walked into the dorm.
Richard saw two single beds and smiled knowingly.
That fellow Mordo was quite considerate~
Jonathan lay on the bed by the window, struggling to lift his head and look toward the door.
When he recognized Richard coming into the room, his eyes lit up brilliantly.
"Benefactor?!"
Mrs. Pangborn quickly brought over a stool and invited Richard to sit.
Then she eagerly poured a cup of water and handed it to him.
Next, she sat by Jonathan's bedside and took his hand.
"Thanks to your guidance, Jonathan and I made it all the way to Kathmandu..."
"We met many kind people here, and with their selfless help, we finally found this place!"
"The Sorcerer here said..."
Mrs. Pangborn's voice choked with emotion.
"She said Jonathan has hope of recovery..."
"Oh, this is simply wonderful..."
The old woman wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes.
"Thank you, Sorcerer Richard, you saved us!"
Jonathan Pangborn, lying on the bed, used every ounce of his strength to grip his mother's hand, his eye rims rapidly turning red.
Seeing this, Richard nodded inwardly. This man's mindset was vastly different from when he had first met him at the hospital.
His current state was actually very well-suited for the training ahead.
Even so, Richard still cautioned him. "Mr. Pangborn, the training at Kamar-Taj is extremely arduous."
"To succeed, you must work very, very hard!"
"And even so, you will encounter countless difficulties and setbacks..."
"You must have an unwavering belief and be prepared to persevere for a long time!"
The next day, Richard and Christine arrived at the Training Plaza early in the morning.
They began their daily basic training.
Actually, this kind of training brought almost zero improvement for him.
Still, since he was accompanying his girlfriend, how else was he supposed to spend time with her...
After finishing morning training, Christine had worked up a light sweat.
Her complexion was rosy and spirited, and she looked full of vitality.
Richard nodded in satisfaction.
Persisting with this kind of exercise every day was much healthier than Clea used to be when she went to work every day.
Arriving at the dining hall, Mrs. Pangborn and Jonathan were also eating breakfast.
By this time, the mother and son already knew that Kamar-Taj turned out to be a legendary sanctuary of sorcerers!
"Sorcerer Richard, may I apprentice myself to you as my mentor?" Jonathan looked at Richard expectantly.
Hearing this, Richard hesitated for a moment.
He had a great deal on his plate right now; investigating the mastermind behind the scenes had already consumed the bulk of his energy. If something else came up on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s end, he feared he wouldn't even have time to return to Kamar-Taj.
To avoid misleading a student, Richard chose to decline.
"I'm afraid I don't have the time, Mr. Pangborn, but I can recommend a mentor for you..." Richard said, pointing forward.
Jonathan and the others turned their heads to look and saw that it was Mordo.
Mordo walked over, placed his tray on the table, and seeing that everyone's gazes were fixed on him, assumed something was wrong with himself and hurriedly straightened his clothes.
Then he asked suspiciously.
"Why are you all staring at me?"
Richard didn't answer, instead introducing him to the Pangborn mother and son. "Senior Brother Mordo is a powerful, formal sorcerer. He came to Kamar-Taj many years earlier than I did, and he has always enjoyed the deep trust of The Ancient One."
Mordo's expression shifted slightly, and he cast an unfriendly glance at Richard.
This jerk was calling him senior brother again?!
Whenever this guy called him senior brother, nothing good ever followed!
Richard turned a blind eye to this and continued heaping on the praise. "Many matters in Kamar-Taj are currently managed by Senior Brother Mordo. He has always been conscientious and responsible, which is why he has won the recognition of everyone up and down Kamar-Taj."
Mrs. Pangborn recognized Mordo as the very person who had brought her and her son into Kamar-Taj yesterday.
He was also the one who had arranged their lodging.
To take care of their mother-and-son duo, he had very thoughtfully arranged a double room.
Although she was disappointed that Jonathan couldn't apprentice under Richard, taking Sorcerer Mordo as a mentor was also a fantastic choice.
As Mordo listened to Richard's endless stream of flattery, the unease in his heart grew stronger and stronger.
He hurriedly interrupted. "Alright, Richard, if you keep praising me like this, even I won't recognize myself!"
"Speak, what troublesome matter is it this time that you need me to handle?"
Richard clutched his chest in a deeply wounded manner. "Senior Brother Mordo, how, how can you say that?! It really breaks your junior brother's heart!"
His exaggerated performance caused Christine, standing nearby, to quickly cover her mouth for fear of laughing out loud.
Mordo wore a dark expression as he watched Richard act up.
The Pangborn mother and son were somewhat at a loss.
Fortunately, Mrs. Pangborn was older and had plenty of life experience, and she faintly sensed that Richard and Mordo's relationship must actually be quite good.
Seeing no one respond, Richard sheepishly stopped messing around and instead turned solemn. "Senior Brother Mordo, are you interested in taking on a student?"
As he spoke, he gave a slight nod of his chin toward Jonathan.
Mordo looked over accordingly, and seeing that it was Jonathan, hesitated somewhat. "This..."
Seeing this, Richard quickly chimed in. "Senior Brother Mordo, Jonathan is different from that dummy at my place. His resolve is extremely firm, making him very well-suited for cultivation."
Hearing her boyfriend belittle her, Christine unhappily pouted her small lips and grumbled softly.
How am I that bad, hmph~
I actually earned a medical doctorate before the age of twenty-four, hmph-hmph~
Hearing this, Richard couldn't help but twitch the corner of his mouth as he muttered inwardly.
Unbeatable, my foolish girlfriend, showing off your doctorate in an unscientific place like Kamar-Taj...
Jonathan nearby seized the appropriate moment to make his stance clear. "Teacher Mordo, this disciple will definitely train hard and diligently in the future, and will never disappoint Teacher's teachings!"
In the end, Mordo nodded and accepted Jonathan as his student.
After finishing the meal, Richard and Christine returned to their dorm.
The girl immediately went on the offensive, pinching the tender flesh on her boyfriend's waist and grinding her teeth as she said, "Darling, if you've got the guts, say what you just said one more time!"
Richard drew in a breath, feigning intense pain, and pleaded, "Ow, ow, ow! Darling, wasn't that just to help Jonathan successfully take Senior Brother Mordo as his mentor? My Clea is as smart as they come, how could she possibly be a dummy~"
Only then did Christine let go with a look of satisfaction, while warning him.
"Anyway, don't you dare talk about me like that next time, you hear me!"
"Yes, yes, yes, as you command, Your Royal Highness Princess~"
Richard sighed inwardly.
Sigh, this foolish girlfriend, she's been in Kamar-Taj for so many days now, why hasn't she caught on yet~
