Background

Kaguya arrived at the God Tree as Ōtsutsuki Isshiki’s partner, but opposed the plan for Isshiki to sacrifice her body to the Ten-Tails. When Masayo, using the alias “Ye Feiyu,” revealed knowledge of Isshiki, Karma, and the Ōtsutsuki Clan’s fate, she formed a guarded alliance with him to kill Isshiki 205 207.

Though overwhelmingly powerful, Kaguya initially lacked practical combat experience. Masayo repeatedly defeated or outmaneuvered her through clones, terrain, feints, and mobility, teaching her that technique and strategy could overcome raw force 206. In return, she taught him the principles of Yin–Yang Release and supplied crucial intelligence on Isshiki’s abilities 207 210.

Kaguya later trained in Shikkotsu Forest alongside Masayo and Katsuyu. She learned Sage Mode, became increasingly accustomed to ordinary companionship, and gradually abandoned much of her earlier cold pride and contempt for humans 208 214.

History

Rebellion against Isshiki

To draw Isshiki out, Kaguya consumed the God Tree Fruit. The transformation gave her horns, a Nine-Tomoe Rinne Sharingan, and the power to cast Infinite Tsukuyomi across the world 217. She and Masayo then used coordinated attacks and Amenominaka to trap Isshiki in Gravity Space before Katsuyu critically wounded him and Kaguya reduced his body to ash with All-Killing Ash Bones 219 220.

Isshiki’s remaining Karma-related contingency failed when he was transformed into a toad. Kaguya executed him at Masayo’s request, ending the immediate threat posed by her former partner 222.

Relationship with Masayo

After Isshiki’s death, Kaguya confronted Masayo over his concealed identity and motives. He admitted that “Ye Feiyu” was an alias, revealed that he came from the future, and explained the looming threat of Manjusaka 223. Kaguya’s anger ultimately gave way to a mutual confession of affection, beginning their romantic relationship 223.

Kaguya later bore Masayo’s twin sons, Hagoromo and Hamura, during the centuries following his return to the future 226.

Rule and sealing

Kaguya unified the world and founded the Land of Night, centralizing its currency and writing while delegating administration to White Zetsu due to her distrust of ordinary humans 226. As the God Tree became uncontrollable and threatened to become the Ten-Tails, she ordered Hagoromo and Hamura to seal her with Chibaku Tensei so the planet could be saved 227 228.

Before being sealed, Kaguya apologized to her sons for her emotional distance, embraced them, and asked them to protect the world after her imprisonment 228. She remained awake within her lunar prison for more than a thousand years, cultivating her power in isolation 230 231.

Return to the present

Masayo eventually reached the moon through Hamura’s hidden passage and dismantled the barrier around Kaguya’s prison. Kaguya used their chakra connection to materialize before him and immediately embraced him 230.

Her millennium of cultivation produced Yin–Yang Power, the Tenseigan, and Spatial Transfer, allowing her to instantly travel to chakra signatures she can sense 231. She later helped Masayo’s group revive Hagoromo, Hamura, and numerous other deceased figures by sacrificing Isshiki’s life force through the Outer Path—Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique 245.

Conflict with Manjusaka

Seeking power against Manjusaka, Kaguya merged with her Limited Tsukuyomi World counterpart in the Primordial Space 275. She confronted Manjusaka directly, wielding Senjutsu, the Tenseigan, the Nine-Tomoe Rinne Sharingan, and an All-Killing Ash Bones Blade 278.

Despite her growth, Manjusaka repeatedly overwhelmed her. Kaguya nevertheless escaped Spirit Transformation Shackles through Yin–Yang Power and continued fighting until Masayo returned 279 280.

Appearance

Kaguya is an ethereal Ōtsutsuki woman with exceptionally long silver hair, pale skin, and grayish-white Byakugan. Her appearance changes substantially after consuming the God Tree Fruit and again after her thousand-year cultivation 205 217 231.

  • Long silver hair, later associated with her Senjutsu-trained form 205 278
  • Pale Byakugan that activate with prominent veins around her eyes 205
  • White robes and later a white haori styled to match Masayo’s clothing 217 231
  • Horns and a Nine-Tomoe Rinne Sharingan after consuming the Chakra Fruit 217
  • Tenseigan awakened through long-term cultivation 231
  • Aqua-blue hair and eyeshadow while using ordinary Sage Mode 214

Personality

Kaguya initially regards humans as “monkeys,” distrusts outsiders, and considers herself fundamentally separate from ordinary people 205 207. She is proud, easily irritated by teasing, dislikes dirt and fighting, and is particularly sensitive about her claimed age of nineteen 206 208.

Her early arrogance masks inexperience. She had immense inherited power but little knowledge of tactical combat, training, or ordinary life; Masayo’s lessons force her to confront these weaknesses 206 210. She is also curious about unfamiliar human objects and comforts, including cameras, biscuits, cooked food, and tents 208.

Over time, Kaguya becomes more patient, cooperative, and emotionally open. Her concern for Masayo during his cultivation, affection for Katsuyu, defense of Masayo against Isshiki’s insults, and willingness to train for the future demonstrate her gradual attachment to others 214 219. She remains possessive and suspicious when she believes Masayo has concealed things from her, particularly concerning his relationships with other women 231 232.

Abilities & Skills

Byakugan and advanced dōjutsu

Kaguya possesses the Byakugan and later gains both the Nine-Tomoe Rinne Sharingan and Tenseigan.

  • The Byakugan allows her to perceive chakra and observe her surroundings with near-total vision 205 206.
  • Her Nine-Tomoe Rinne Sharingan enables Infinite Tsukuyomi and supports her dimension-based abilities 217.
  • Her Tenseigan manifests after her thousand-year cultivation and grants techniques including Golden and Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion 231 279.
  • Her perception can identify whether a person’s chakra signature has changed, as when she verified Masayo’s identity after his Realm of True Self training 214.

Yin–Yang Release and Yin–Yang Power

Kaguya is proficient in Yin–Yang Release and later develops the more advanced Yin–Yang Power.

  • Creates Chakra Black Rods for defense, restraint, and close-quarters combat 210 219.
  • Forms Truth-Seeking Orbs, including one used to remove her horns 222.
  • Uses Yin–Yang Power as the foundation for Spatial Transfer 231.
  • Escapes Spirit Transformation Shackles by reversing and destabilizing her own chakra 280.
  • Her advanced power enables her to resist abilities that would otherwise leave a restrained target helpless 280.

Space-time techniques

Kaguya controls multiple forms of dimensional movement and battlefield manipulation.

  • Amenominaka — Transports targets to alternate dimensions, including Gravity Space and Primordial Space 219 220.
  • Yomotsu Hirasaka — A space-time technique incorporated into her later Spatial Transfer development 231.
  • Spatial Transfer — Instantly travels to any location where she can sense chakra; she used Masayo’s hidden Flying Thunder God mark on a grain of rice as a destination 231.
  • Gravity Space — Uses Amenominaka to pin Isshiki beneath crushing gravity while she and Masayo retain mobility 219.

All-Killing Ash Bones

Kaguya’s primary lethal technique creates bone projectiles that cause targets to decay into ash.

  • Hesitated to use it against Masayo during training because it was reserved for Isshiki 206.
  • Used it to finish Isshiki after Katsuyu and Masayo’s preparations left him critically weakened 220 222.
  • Can shape it into an All-Killing Ash Bones Blade, a single-edged weapon suited to her chopping-oriented fighting style 278.
  • Its effectiveness depends on landing a decisive hit; Manjusaka was able to overwhelm Kaguya before she could gain an advantage 279.

Rabbit Hair Needle

Kaguya hardens and launches her elongated hair as piercing projectiles.

  • Can blanket a wide area with needle-like hair attacks 206.
  • Uses it for probing attacks and to pressure opponents at range 206 278.
  • Isshiki can shrink and store the needles through Sukunahikona and Daikokuten 219.

Eighty Gods Vacuum Attack

A destructive chakra strike released from Kaguya’s palms.

  • Powerful enough to shatter Masayo’s Sage Mode and break his arm during sparring 207.
  • Used as a coordinated ambush against Isshiki 219.
  • Can be redirected or neutralized by opponents with appropriate techniques, including Isshiki’s Sukunahikona and Daikokuten 219.

Infinite Tsukuyomi

After consuming the God Tree Fruit, Kaguya projects her Nine-Tomoe Rinne Sharingan onto the moon to place humanity into a global dream 217.

  • Intended as a defensive measure against Isshiki rather than an effort to harvest humanity’s chakra 217.
  • Those who refuse to awaken from the dream can still become White Zetsu 217.
  • The technique was undone after Isshiki’s defeat 222.

Senjutsu and Eight Gates

Kaguya learned ordinary Shikkotsu Forest Sage Mode under Katsuyu’s guidance and later used the Eighth Gate alongside Body Activation.

  • Can enter Sage Mode instantly after completing her training 214.
  • Could not master Great Deity, which requires an extreme balance of natural, spiritual, and physical energy 214.
  • Activates the Eighth Gate of Death and uses Body Activation to contain its power against Manjusaka 279.
  • Her later combat form combines Senjutsu, Tenseigan power, the Nine-Tomoe Rinne Sharingan, and Yin–Yang Power 278.

Equipment / Items

  • All-Killing Ash Bones Blade — A single-edged weapon formed from All-Killing Ash Bones 278.
  • Truth-Seeking Orbs — Yin–Yang Release constructs used for various purposes, including removing her horns 222.
  • Blue haori — Kaguya hand-made two blue haori for Masayo and entrusted them to Katsuyu for their eventual reunion 227.

Relationships

  • Masayo / Ye Feiyu — Ally, teacher, romantic partner, and father of Hagoromo and Hamura. Their alliance begins as a mutual effort to kill Isshiki and develops into a committed relationship 205 223 226.
  • Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki — Son. Kaguya struggles to explain her plans to him, but ultimately apologizes and asks him to seal her to save the world 227 228.
  • Hamura Ōtsutsuki — Son. He helps Hagoromo seal Kaguya and later guards her on the moon 228.
  • Katsuyu — Training companion, ally, and confidante. Katsuyu teaches Kaguya Senjutsu and supports her throughout her alliance with Masayo 214 230.
  • Ōtsutsuki Isshiki — Former partner and enemy who intended to sacrifice Kaguya to the Ten-Tails; Kaguya joins Masayo in defeating and executing him 205 220 222.
  • ShionMasayo’s partner and Kaguya’s romantic rival. Their first meeting becomes an immediate and hostile dispute over Masayo 232.
  • Ōtsutsuki Toneri — Descendant of Hamura. Toneri addresses Kaguya as his ancestor and responds to her with formal reverence 231.
  • Manjusaka — Primary enemy. Kaguya seeks the power necessary to resist her but is repeatedly outmatched in direct combat 278 281.
