In the original story, Obadiah caught Pepper stealing evidence and could have gone after her at any moment.
Pepper was in danger on her own, so she had no choice but to accompany S.H.I.E.L.D. to the research base to arrest Obadiah.
This time, however, Pepper's mission went smoothly. Obadiah never threatened her, so she had no reason to go with Coulson and the others.
After giving the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents the address, Pepper returned to Stark Tower.
Coulson and the others followed her directions into the Underground Research Base, where they found the First-Generation Armor Tony had built.
"Is this the armor Tony was wearing when Superman brought him back?"
Coulson wondered.
He photographed the armor with his phone and sent the pictures to Nick Fury and Tony.
At Stark Tower.
"This is—"
Tony froze when he saw Coulson's photos, then quickly pieced it together. "So Obadiah wanted to copy my First-Generation Armor. That's why he was so desperate to get the Arc Reactor. Damn it, Coulson and the others could be in danger!"
If Obadiah had already built a copy of the armor and installed the Arc Reactor, those agents would be no match for him.
Tony barely knew Coulson and the others, and he had never liked government agents much. Even so, he couldn't stand by and let Obadiah kill them.
Without hesitation, Tony went down to the Armor Warehouse and put on his armor again.
"Tony, where are you going?"
Pepper, who had followed him down, couldn't help asking.
"It's nothing! Just a little problem to take care of. I'll be back!"
