Mark handed the bills to the girl, left his home address, then turned and left.
"Mark, should I follow her and take a look?"
One of the bodyguards who had come out with Mark reminded him.
He was clearly worried that the girl had taken the money and run off.
"No need!"
Mark shook his head.
The girl was far too wary. If she noticed someone following her, it would only ruin the trust Mark had just established with her.
Besides, if he could use ten thousand dollars to test her character, it was well worth it to Mark.
Early the next morning, every resident of Clem District had already heard about what had happened the previous night, causing an uproar.
"Damn it! The Iron Blood Gang has gone too far! They actually dared to send people to attack the Westons!"
"Rosalie is truly kindhearted. Luckily, she sent her bodyguards over. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable."
"..."
While everyone cursed those Mexicans for having no respect for the rules, they also praised Mark's family for sending people to help the Westons.
After all, everyone hoped to have neighbors like that—neighbors who would step up when their family was in danger.
Later, Mrs Weston and her husband came to their door together with gifts to express their thanks.
It was the weekend, and both Rosalie and Mark were at home.
"Rosalie, thank you! If it hadn't been for your family's bodyguards, my old man and I would've met God last night!"
Mrs Weston held Rosalie's hand and repeatedly thanked her with gratitude.
"You're too polite. We're neighbors. Helping each other is only natural."
Rosalie replied with a smile.
Not long after the two of them put down their gifts and left, Mrs Kane, who worked for the community committee, arrived as well.
"Rosalie, the board heard about what happened last night and has decided to invite you to join the community committee as a member. Would you be willing?"
Mrs Kane asked with a smile.
"Ah, but you know I'm an actress. I have to go out for work, so I'm afraid I won't have the time..."
Rosalie was tempted, but she still spoke hesitantly.
Joining the community committee would allow her to participate in and make decisions on various community matters. She would be considered someone with a certain status in the community, so naturally Rosalie was very willing to join.
However, she had a constant stream of acting jobs and was busy every day. She truly did not have much time to participate in handling the committee's affairs.
"That's all right. Rosalie, you can serve as an honorary member in name only. You won't need to handle the daily affairs."
Only after hearing Mrs Kane say that did Rosalie agree with relief.
After Mrs Kane left, Rosalie was still somewhat excited.
She had always rented places before. She had not even been qualified to attend community meetings, much less join the community committee.
Back then, those committee members had all been important figures to her. They could throw her out of the community at any time.
Rosalie had never expected that one day, she would become a community committee member as well.
"Mark, I've detected something unusual!"
Mark, who was sitting in front of the computer writing a program, heard Alice's warning.
He put down the keyboard and looked toward the large screen on the wall.
Through footage captured by the drone, he saw the young magician girl from the previous night pulling along a little girl of around five or six, sprinting through an alley not far from Clem Street.
The little girl's other hand was tightly clutching a teddy bear doll—the very same one Mark had seen the night before.
Several dozen meters behind them, two burly Latino men in black suits were rapidly chasing after them.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The magician girl occasionally turned around and flung balls of fireworks at the two men behind her.
Though the fireworks were not deadly, they still left the two men filthy and disheveled, with most of their hair and eyebrows singed away.
"Sean, go to the alley east of Colin Street and pick up two girls. Deal with the trouble behind them while you're at it."
Mark instructed Sean, the bodyguard currently on duty, through the intercom.
"Got it, Mark."
Sean nodded, immediately grabbed his handgun, and hurried toward the location Mark had given him.
By the time Sean arrived, the two burly Latino men had each grabbed hold of the magician girl and the little girl beside her.
The doll the little girl had been holding had fallen into the drainage ditch nearby.
Smack!
Feeling the burning pain on his face, the brute holding the magician girl viciously slapped her across the face and cursed, "You bitch! You dared burn me? You freak who can shoot electricity! If the boss hadn't ordered us to take you alive, I'd have shot you dead already!"
Blood seeped from the magician girl's mouth after the blow, but she did not make a sound. She merely glared at him viciously.
She needed to concentrate in order to use her ability. The man obviously would not give her another chance to act.
"Waaah, Sister..."
The little girl, held by the other brute, burst into terrified tears.
"Let her go!"
The magician girl turned toward the brute holding the little girl, her gaze becoming even fiercer.
"Hmph! Let her go? Our boss said he wants to see both of you. Not one less. Come with us now!"
The brute holding the girl snorted coldly and prepared to leave with his companion while forcing the two girls along.
"Don't move!"
At that moment, Sean appeared at the entrance of the alley, drew the handgun from his waist, and aimed it at the two men.
Both men's expressions changed. They had not expected someone to suddenly appear in this remote, deserted alley.
"Friend, we're from the Latin Gang. Please do us a favor and don't meddle in other people's business."
The brute holding the girl announced his identity.
"I don't care what gang you belong to! Let them go and get lost, or die!"
Sean snorted and pulled the slide, chambering a round in his handgun.
He had no goodwill whatsoever toward these two scum who kidnapped girls.
Seeing this, the two burly Latino men's expressions changed again.
They had guns at their waists too, but before they could draw them from their holsters, the other man would have enough time to kill them several times over!
In the end, the two could only submit helplessly. They released the two girls and turned to leave resentfully.
"Mark sent me to rescue you. Come with me!"
Seeing that the rescued girls were both extremely wary of him, Sean immediately revealed his identity.
The magician girl suddenly understood. Only then did she realize why Sean had appeared there at such a perfect time.
"Thank you!"
She thanked him, feeling grateful to Mark for sending someone to save her and her younger sister.
The little girl squatted down, picked the teddy bear doll out of the drainage ditch, and carefully wiped away the grime with a pained expression.
The magician girl went over, took her hand, and followed Sean away.
The three of them soon returned to Clem Street and entered Mark's home.
"Huh? You are...?"
Seeing Sean bring two unfamiliar girls, one older and one younger, into the yard, Rosalie could not help looking surprised.
"Mom, she's someone I hired. This is her younger sister."
Mark briefly introduced the girl's identity. Noticing that both of them were filthy and giving off an unpleasant smell, he added to Rosalie, "Sorry for the trouble, but arrange a place for them to stay first, then take them to bathe and change into clean clothes."
