Su Che reached out with both hands and caught the fleeing shadow.
Caught was hardly the word. He had trapped it fast with his Creation Sword Intent.
A Yin Demon?
Su Che watched the shadow writhe in his palm and had a fair idea what it was.
It was one of the Devil Sect's fifty kinds of Yin Demons, known as an Ear-Report Spirit.
It resembled a caecilian made of smoke. Ordinarily, it could shrink into the tiniest crevice, evade spiritual perception, and relay everything it learned from its hiding place to its master. It could also catch its host off guard and coax the Heart Demon within them to grow.
To be fair, it was among the more useful of the fifty kinds of Yin Demons.
The little thing was exceptionally good at hiding. If his Creation Sword Intent had not probed the jade pendant's inner structure, Su Che would never have found it.
Su Che studied the tiny Yin Demon before him.
Who had hidden it in there?
Was Jin Yunu testing me, or had someone used her to get at me?
Su Che watched the little creature twist between his fingers.
The so-called fifty kinds of Yin Demons were only a broad classification. There were many ways to refine them, and eight or nine out of ten involved some deed that offended heaven and harmed all beneath it.
The Ear-Report Spirit was no exception. Su Che remembered that making one was rather complicated: the refiner had to find love-struck men and resentful women, then torment their besotted hearts in every possible way until the creature took shape.
Of course, that was how crude cultivators newly entered into the Devil Sect made them. Experts like Jin Yunu and Wan Ying surely had better methods.
But none of that
