With that little Soul Power of his, what difference was there between catching up and throwing his life away?
Perhaps it was due to their differing personalities, but Chu Zhao could not understand his actions. Rather than doing something suicidal, she would only conserve her strength and avenge this grudge another day.
"If you catch up, you'll only be throwing your life away."
After shaking her head and saying that, Chu Zhao immediately left. She was so fast that the Soul Grandmaster's Soul Power likely could not keep up with her at all.
That was all she could do. She had already saved his life once; if he did not cherish it, no one could persuade him otherwise.
Ahead, Spirit Hall's Golden Generation had already intercepted the three Evil Soul Masters.
When Chu Zhao caught up, she saw one of the Evil Soul Masters fling the two corpses impaled on his Long Spear at the Spirit Hall team as physical projectiles.
If those blood-soaked corpses burst upon impact, it would be an utter mess. The corpse poison on them might even affect the team.
Just as someone in the Spirit Hall team prepared to destroy the corpses beforehand, Chu Zhao made her move.
For once, she used her Seed of Life martial soul. Though it was only her First Soul Skill.
"First Soul Skill, Song of Life."
As the Soul Skill activated, an ancient, beautiful melody seemed to drift through the air, carrying a power that soothed the heart.
The wood-element energy in the air surged wildly. Under Chu Zhao's mental control, it formed an Emerald Net that wrapped around the two corpses.
The two corpses, which had rapidly swollen and were on the verge of bursting, strangely returned to how they had looked before, peaceful in death, once they were wrapped in the wooden net.
This was the Star Dou Great Forest, where plant life thrived in abundance. Using her Seed of Life martial soul here came far more naturally to Chu Zhao, as if she had divine aid.
"Spirit Hall is handling business. This has nothing to do with you, so withdraw at once."
The one wielding the Moon Blade martial soul should have been Xie Yue. He was the first to notice Chu Zhao's intervention. Though surprised that she had suddenly appeared to help, he immediately invoked Spirit Hall's name to drive her away.
It was not because he disliked Chu Zhao at first sight and wanted to send her away.
Rather, Chu Zhao looked quite young, so he instinctively assumed her Soul Power was not high. If she stayed here, she would only be throwing her life away.
They were carrying out a mission assigned by Spirit Hall, and before they encountered the Evil Soul Masters, it would have been one thing. But if Chu Zhao died before their eyes due to an Evil Soul Master's attack, it would count as negligence on their part, and they would be punished.
When Chu Zhao saw Xie Yue sending her away, she immediately agreed.
"Sure, I'll leave this to you."
Then she decisively left, departing with such unusual decisiveness that Xie Yue was left at a loss.
He had already prepared himself to spend a great deal of effort persuading Chu Zhao to leave.
He had not expected her to leave so readily.
"Hu Liena isn't with the team. Looks like she went after the Soul King ahead alone. There are six Soul Ancestors here against three Soul Ancestor-level Evil Soul Masters, so this side should be secure."
With that thought, Chu Zhao continued chasing after them.
Still, she rather admired Hu Liena. She actually dared to challenge someone above her level alone.
Hu Liena's Soul Power was currently at level forty-nine, only a hair away from breaking through to Soul King.
But that single hair's breadth meant she was still a Soul Ancestor, lacking the crucial Fifth Soul Ring.
And at the same level of Soul Power, Evil Soul Masters were far stronger than ordinary Soul Masters.
"She really got beaten up badly."
Chu Zhao muttered under her breath as she finally spotted Hu Liena. Setting everything else aside, the little fox was quite pretty. The battle-worn version of the little fox was even prettier.
"She looks so pitiful. How could that Soul Douluo bear not to intervene?"
She only muttered that in her heart. Chu Zhao thought, If you don't make a move, I will. I can probably make this little fox owe me a favor.
With a Soul Douluo secretly guarding the area, Hu Liena would definitely be fine. This was a free favor—there was no reason not to take it.
In the instant Chu Zhao was thinking, Hu Liena suffered another injury and coughed up a mouthful of blood.
Chu Zhao immediately acted. Since she had already revealed her Seed of Life martial soul before the people of Spirit Hall, she continued using it and instantly cast her First Soul Skill.
"First Soul Skill, Song of Life."
A beautiful, mysterious melody rang out, bringing a power that soothed the heart. A great number of emerald leaves appeared, gently wrapping around both Hu Liena and the Soul King.
When the leaves wrapped around the enemy Soul King, they drained his life force.
When they wrapped around their ally Hu Liena, they fed that life force back to her, healing her injuries and restoring her strength.
That was the ability of the First Soul Skill, Song of Life.
The melody that rang out could indeed affect one's state of mind to a certain extent, making people calm down slightly and lose the desire to fight, though the effect was not particularly obvious.
"Where did this brat come from? What did you do to me?!"
The Soul King forcefully shattered the Emerald Leaf Barrier with a Soul Skill, then swept an enraged gaze toward Chu Zhao.
"Where did this skull come from? Your bad breath is choking me."
Chu Zhao immediately retorted, showing him no mercy whatsoever.
The Soul King, who had cultivated evil arts until he was skin and bones and hideously ugly, was deeply stung by Chu Zhao's words.
He immediately abandoned Hu Liena and turned to attack Chu Zhao instead.
This Soul King's martial soul was a Ghost Vine. It had taken on a blood-red appearance, looking exceptionally horrifying.
"Why is it so red? Don't tell me it got that way from drinking blood."
Just as Chu Zhao had that thought, Hu Liena's warning arrived.
"Be careful of his vine martial soul—it can suck blood!"
The Ghost Vine had already reached Chu Zhao, seeking to bind her entire body.
Yet Chu Zhao stood perfectly still, looking as though she had been frightened stupid by those terrifying vines.
Triumph appeared in the Soul King's eyes, and Hu Liena was even preparing to have the Soul Douluo intervene and save her.
But then something strange happened. Just as the vines were about to wrap around Chu Zhao, they suddenly recoiled as though they had been electrocuted.
And in Chu Zhao's outstretched palm sat a tiny seed.
Under their astonished gazes, Chu Zhao released her four Soul Rings, clad in two yellow and two purple, giving them another shock.
Then, in an exceptionally gentle, irritating tone, she said, "So it's a Plant Martial Soul. Then you're really unlucky. My martial soul happens to counter yours."
Before they could recover from their shock, Chu Zhao instantly cast her Second Soul Skill.
"Weight of Life."
Countless emerald leaves appeared once more, but this time, they did not gently wrap around the Soul King.
Instead, they swiftly attached themselves to his body one by one. His already hunched figure withered further, nearly curling into a ball.
With every additional leaf that attached itself to him, the Soul King's body sank another inch lower. His knees had long since sunk into the soil, and his entire body was nearly being crushed into the dust.
The Soul King tried to use his Ghost Vine to bind Chu Zhao and drag her down with him. But his martial soul could not bind Chu Zhao at all, so he immediately settled for Hu Liena instead.
