Background / History

Lin Xuan selected the weakened Nihility Devouring Flame from the system’s three Heavenly Flame options after transmigrating to the Douluo Continent. Though weakened, it retained its defining trait of devouring all things and was regarded as superior to every flame on the continent. Its infant form was suppressed within Lin Xuan’s body during his infancy, protecting him from the Extreme North’s lethal cold and drawing the attention of the Ice Empress and Snow Empress 1.

The flame is ranked second among the twenty-three Heavenly Flames. Lin Xuan later explains that Heavenly Flames are spiritual entities formed by heaven and earth: condensed energies governed by unique laws and possessing violent power 23.

Appearance

When summoned, the Nihility Devouring Flame appears as pitch-black fire with an oppressive devouring presence.

• Its flames can gather into a gigantic, savage human face with hollow black eye sockets and protruding fangs 12.
• It can reshape into a massive black medicinal cauldron for alchemy 35.

The flame’s central ability is the consumption of matter, energy, and hostile techniques.

• Completely swallowed the Evil Eye Tyrant’s silver Evil Eye Gaze without harming Lin Xuan 13.
• Burned a defeated Evil Eye so completely that no intact remains were left 11.
• Captured and repeatedly burned the Evil Eye Tyrant’s soul core into submission 14.
• Devoured the Tyrant’s soul bone after its death, converting it into energy for Lin Xuan 22.
• Can consume light, making it unsuitable as a light source 29.
• Is stated to be capable of devouring even Ultimate Fire or Ultimate Water 35.

Defensive and Environmental Control

The flame protects Lin Xuan and others against hazardous conditions.

• Suppressed the chill leaking from the miniature ice swords so their presence would not be discovered and Wang Qiu’er would not be frostbitten 8.
