Background / History

Tang Chen was the former leader and foundational figure of the Clear Sky Sect. His creation of the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer, Clear Sky Nine Absolutes, Great Sumeru Hammer, and Ring Detonation established the sect’s fearsome reputation and helped secure its position as the world’s foremost sect 14.

In his era, Tang Chen stood alongside Qian Daoliu and Bo Saixi as one of the three great Soul Masters. Known as invincible on land, he was both Qian Daoliu’s rival and companion. Unlike Qian Daoliu, who accepted submission, Tang Chen forced other powers into vassalage through violence; older Soul Masters remember his rise as a period of terror 8 10 13.

While seeking godhood, Tang Chen entered Slaughter City and discovered the God of Asura’s inheritance. During the eighth Asura Divine Trial, the Rakshasa God’s divine consciousness disrupted him. The Blood-Red Nine-Headed Bat King then entered his body, devoured his will, and turned him into the bloodthirsty King of Slaughter 14.

The parasite controlled him for decades. Its poison seeped into his bones, destroying his health and leaving his soul severely damaged; the sabotage also ended his chance to inherit the God of Asura’s position 14 16. The Sky Screen’s reward restored his sanity, after which Tang Chen immediately reclaimed his body and slew the fleeing Bat King with the Asura God’s Sword 16.

Knowing that he had little time left, Tang Chen left Slaughter City intact rather than release its criminals onto the continent. Instead of returning to the Clear Sky Sect, he set out for Sea God Island to see Bo Saixi one final time 17.

Personality

Tang Chen was historically domineering, ruthless, and intensely proud. He built the Clear Sky Sect’s authority through force, demanding that prospective vassals survive an attack from his Clear Sky Hammer before they were considered worthy to submit 13.

After recovering his sanity, he is portrayed as weary and remorseful rather than triumphant. Though he still loves Bo Saixi, his pride and shame over his broken body and failed godhood prevent him from believing he has the right to face or marry her 16. He also retains practical judgment, refusing to destroy Slaughter City because doing so would unleash its criminals upon the continent 17.
