Background / History

Lu Qi is Father Lu’s son from his former marriage. His biological mother died shortly after his birth, and he was later raised by Madam Li after she remarried Father Lu. Although they are not biologically related, Lu Qi considers Madam Li his true mother and is closer to her than to his father. 1

As a child, Lu Qi eagerly awaited the birth of Lu Yang—later known as Lu Yao—and repeatedly asked the nanny to let him play with his younger brother. Lu Yao’s disappearance left Lu Qi without the brother he had expected to grow up with. 1

When the Lu family discovers that Lu Yao survived, Lu Qi travels with his parents to Mountain City. He is shocked when Lu Yao initially refuses to return to the Lu family, but remains determined to form a sibling bond. He accompanies Lu Yao home, stresses that he is two years older, and waits impatiently for Lu Yao to call him “Brother.” 4 8 9

After Lu Yao moves into the Lu residence and transfers to Huiying High School, Lu Qi’s wish to be acknowledged becomes an ongoing source of jealousy, rivalry, and comedy. He initially declares a one-sided cold war when Lu Yao asks him to keep their relationship private at school, but later publicly confirms that Lu Yao is his blood-related brother. 11 25

Lu Qi gradually comes to see Lu Yao not as competition for the family inheritance, but as the missing member who makes the family whole. When Chen Rong attempts to turn the brothers against each other, Lu Qi states that he would yield the inheritance if Lu Yao wanted it. 29

Lu Yao later witnesses a possible future in which Xia Yue’s system manipulates the Lu family into mistreating him. After Lu Yao’s death in that future, Lu Qi becomes isolated, guilt-ridden, and obsessed with finding Xia Yue. In the present, Lu Yao prevents Xia Yue from using a mental-control device on Lu Qi. 36
