At the mention of his mother by Oak, Teach finally showed a trace of emotion, a faint sadness appearing on his face.

Back then, after the battle of God Valley, when Oak sent him and his mother flying to the Lulusia Kingdom, they initially lived fairly well on the treasure Oak had given them. Although the World Government had people searching for them, the World Government and Marines were still mainly focused on the remnants of the Rocks Pirates at the time, especially Oak. Seeing that he was about to become the next Rocks, the World Government had gone to great lengths to eliminate this hidden threat.

But after Oak was declared "dead," everything changed completely. The World Government poured a great deal of effort into hunting down the mother and son, descendants of the Davy Family, across the entire world.

Even the later manhunt for Pirate King Roger's bloodline could not compare to this one. Alice could only take him from place to place, fleeing all the way from Paradise in the first half of the Grand Line to the New World. They clashed with World Government agents many times along the way, and by the time they reached the New World, she was already covered in injuries.

The last time they were found by World Government agents, the situation was incredibly dire. Knowing that she could not escape that day, Alice hid Teach away and deliberately exposed herself to lure the agents off. Only then did Teach narrowly escape, while she lost her life at the hands of the World Government's agents.

After that, the surviving Teach wandered alone and suffered untold hardships until he encountered Newgate's Whitebeard Pirates at the age of twelve. Only then did he receive protection and manage to grow up safely.
