Power Progression

Background

Oak was reborn in West Blue after transmigrating into the body of an infant expected to die before birth. His body rapidly transformed from frail to monstrous, driven by an enormous appetite and abnormal physical development 1.

At five, Oak returned from a hunt to find his village—including his parents—slaughtered by wolves. He killed the entire pack alone. By age ten, he was capable of hunting Sea Kings and was recruited as a general during the wars among five island kingdoms. He spent the next five years ending battles from the front line, surviving countless engagements without injury and earning the name “Terminator of the Battlefield” 1 13.

His kingdom’s king secretly sold him to the World Government in exchange for membership. Oak survived a Sea King-strength anesthetic, destroyed the royal palace, routed the kingdom’s army, and fought to the port. The drug reduced him to less than a tenth of his strength, allowing five CP0 agents to capture him only after exhausting him in battle 1.

CP0 kept Oak sedated aboard a prison transport because conventional restraints and injections could not reliably contain him. His captivity and betrayal awakened his Conqueror’s Haki before Golden Lion Shiki destroyed the transport and brought him to Hachinosu for a meeting with Rocks D. Xebec 2 3.

Oak joined the Rocks Pirates because Rocks’s ambition to conquer the world matched his own desire to grow among the strongest people on the seas. He began as one of the crew’s two apprentices alongside Kaido, whom he defeated in their battle for apprentice supremacy 10 15.

During his years with the crew, Oak used foreknowledge while concealing its source behind claims of learning from Ohara scholars. He directed Rocks toward secrets involving the Dark-Dark Fruit, Pluton, the Great Hammer Warband, the Vampire Fruit, and the Seven Star Sword, while also privately monitoring Ochoku as a likely traitor 17 19 27 29 34.

Oak became one of the central figures of the God Valley Incident. There, he acquired the Paw-Paw Fruit and publicly became the world’s first known Dual Devil Fruit User, helped Alice and Teach escape, fought Five Elder Saint Nusjuro, and assisted in evacuating Rocks after Imu’s Black-Turn Domination endangered him 181 190 191 165.

After the Rocks Pirates officially disbanded at God Valley, Oak rejected invitations to join Linlin, Newgate, or Kaido. Although the World Government declared Rocks dead and credited Garp with the feat, Oak remains unconvinced because neither he nor the other survivors witnessed Rocks’s final battle against Imu 209 211.

Oak later killed Ochoku and obtained the reborn Cause-and-Effect Fruit, becoming a Triple Ability User. Over the following decades, he continued expanding his strength, defeating or overwhelming major figures including Garp, Sengoku, Zephyr, Aokiji, Kaido, and several God’s Knights 246 256 261 311 362 419.

During a prolonged confrontation at Sabaody, Oak fought a coalition of Marines, pirates, and God’s Knights before dueling Imu over the sea. Their battle lasted at least half a day and devastated a vast stretch of ocean; neither Oak nor Imu won decisively. Reports of the fighting and Oak’s new 6.586-billion-Beli bounty spread worldwide 434 452 474.

Oak subsequently proposed an alliance of independent pirate crews to challenge Imu and the World Government. Kaido, Newgate, and Shiki accepted, and the allied crews established their headquarters on Hachinosu. Oak took his longtime protégé A Shan under his direct command as his deputy 474 475 489.

Appearance

Oak is a two-meter-tall, lean young man with short blue hair, fair skin, refined features, and a muscular build that conceals his abnormal physical strength 4 16.

• His ordinary appearance is notably handsome enough to attract attention within the Rocks Pirates 16.
• By age seventeen, Oak had grown from two meters to approximately three meters tall 72.
• In Vampire hybrid form, his hair and eyes turn scarlet, his skin becomes corpse-pale, and crimson wings emerge from his back 30.
• In full Vampire Beast Form, he grows to nearly Kaido’s size and develops pronounced fangs 30.
• His later complete Vampire Beast Form grows to approximately seven or eight meters tall, with a wingspan exceeding ten meters and intense Blood Light surrounding his body 232.
• After merging with the Seven Star Sword, he bears a green sword-shaped mark on his chest 35.

Personality

Oak is fiercely independent and reacts violently to betrayal or attempts to control him. His capture by his own kingdom left him resentful of being deceived, while his decision to join Rocks came from a desire to grow among stronger opponents rather than fear of Rocks’s power 1 4 10.

He is ambitious, competitive, and openly provocative. Oak taunts Kaido relentlessly, refuses to accept Shiki’s superiority as permanent, and wants to become strong enough to surpass Rocks himself 4 14 32. He also possesses a pragmatic, calculating side: he hides the source of his foreknowledge, monitors Ochoku without making an unproven accusation, and actively seeks to alter Rocks’s future downfall 19 26 46.

Oak is socially bold and often shameless. He relies on flattery to defuse conflicts, repeatedly charges expenses to Kaido, and frequently makes crude, unwanted flirtatious remarks toward women such as Tsuru and Shakuyaku 16 37 49.

His independence became more pronounced after God Valley. He refused offers from Linlin, Kaido, and Newgate because he no longer wanted to live beneath another king’s authority and believed that his Conqueror’s Haki could not reach its peak while someone stood above him 211 212.

Oak is ruthlessly pragmatic toward enemies and potential threats. He annihilated Ochoku’s fleet after executing Ochoku, plans around the respawning of powerful Devil Fruits, and sees talented people as potential assets for his future forces 215 261. He is also increasingly controlling and cruel, using his Vampire power to create Blood Servants from defeated enemies and intending to build a personal intelligence organization from captured CP9 agents 94 376.

Despite his selfishness, Oak is capable of loyalty. He protected Rocks’s family, refused to abandon the gravely injured Rocks at God Valley, declined to use Garp as a hostage after promising his safe release, and helped Streusen escape a God’s Knight despite openly mocking him 94 165 206.

His proposed Pirate Alliance reflects both ambition and an awareness that force alone would not secure his former comrades’ cooperation. He lets allied captains retain their crews, but intends to lead their combined forces against the World Government. His initial plan for the New World is uncompromising: affiliated nations must submit or face destruction, and Marine and World Government forces must be removed 474 475.
