Yang Wudi led the Breaking Clan through the aftermath of the Clear Sky Sect's withdrawal and Spirit Hall's persecution. The clan suffered the heaviest losses among the Four Single Attribute Families, declining to only a little over one hundred survivors; this history left him deeply hostile toward both Spirit Hall and the Tang family. 130 204

As the Breaking Clan's leader, Yang Wudi initially treated Yang Xiong's proposal with suspicion. Yang Xiong's possession of the Aromatic Silk Beauty and Ninth Grade Purple Ganoderma, however, forced him to seriously consider an alliance. He tested Yang Xiong by sending his son, Yang Wuwei, to duel him, then honored his promise after Yang Xiong won. 127 129
