Ch. 21Tsuru's Doubts

Ye Tong joined the Marines as a cleaning soldier, and Tsuru recognized that his abilities made him far more than an ordinary recruit. As Gion led him away, Tsuru remained suspicious of his motives.

  • Ye Tong entered Tsuru’s courtyard and explained that he wanted to join the Marines as a cleaner.
  • Tsuru questioned Ye Tong about his trash-cleaning ability, then assigned him to report to Carotell with Gion.
  • Ye Tong quickly cleaned up Garp’s discarded snacks and the trash can beside Gion.
  • After Ye Tong and Gion left, Tsuru questioned Garp about the boy’s age, strength, speed, and unusual talent for learning Geppo.
  • Garp handed Tsuru Ye Tong’s sparse file and left to have tea with Sengoku.
  • As Gion led Ye Tong down the street, Ye Tong asked whether Marine Headquarters had civilians too.

Ch. 22Proposed to Me?

Gion brought Ye Tong to the Navy Cleaning Department and introduced him to its director, Carotell, as a new cleaner. Ye Tong eagerly accepted the work, while Gion blushed and wondered whether his declaration of love had been a proposal; Carotell was left unsure how to assign him duties.

  • Gion explained that Marineford's food came from the government and continued showing Ye Tong around.
  • Ye Tong stopped to help a nearby bar owner clean, then returned ready to work.
  • Gion introduced Ye Tong to Carotell and asked him to assign Ye Tong difficult cleaning jobs.
  • Ye Tong lifted Gion and spun her around after she arranged more work for him, declaring that he loved her.
  • Gion blushed and ran back, wondering if Ye Tong's promise to repay her kindness was a proposal.
  • Carotell questioned whether he could assign Ye Tong ordinary cleaning work given his connections and closeness to Gion.

Ch. 23Make Some Trash Already

Ye Tong began his cleaning work by visiting Officer Pinos's office, where he asked Pinos to create trash so he could collect it. After gaining 40 speed points, Ye Tong left with Carotell, while Pinos's unease led him to stop participating in shady dealings.

  • Carotell explained that the offices had already been cleaned and showed Ye Tong where and when the cleaning work was done.
  • Ye Tong entered Pinos's office and introduced himself as the new cleaning soldier sent by Admiral Tsuru and Vice Admiral Garp.
  • Ye Tong insisted that Pinos make some trash, and Pinos crumpled a sheet of paper and threw it on the floor.
  • Ye Tong picked up the paper, gained 40 speed points, and left with Carotell to get food and survey their assigned area.
  • Pinos became unsettled by Ye Tong's behavior and stopped taking part in shady activities under his command.

Ch. 24Kuzan

Ch. 25Defeating Kuzan

Ye Tong defeated Kuzan in the training ground and collected Kuzan’s discarded fruit core to obtain Observation Haki, completing his set of three types of Haki. He asked Kuzan about his dream as he prepared to leave.

  • Ye Tong charged Kuzan and struck him before he could use his Ice-Ice Fruit powers.
  • Kuzan froze the training ground and trapped Ye Tong in ice, but Ye Tong escaped and held his blade to Kuzan, declaring victory.
  • Ye Tong criticized Kuzan’s mindset and told him to train properly before demanding that he fulfill their bet.
  • Kuzan threw a bitten fruit onto the ground, and Ye Tong picked up its core to obtain Observation Haki.
  • Ye Tong asked Kuzan what his dream was.

Ch. 26Ye Tong, All Talk

Ye Tong challenged Kuzan to define justice and criticized his readiness to follow Garp’s example, then urged him to learn from Zephyr. The chapter left Zephyr considering whether to recruit Ye Tong to his training ground while Garp said Ye Tong seemed content as a cleaning trooper.

  • Kuzan said his dream was to sweep away evil and identified pirates as the greatest evil, like Garp did.
  • Ye Tong questioned Kuzan’s understanding of justice and criticized his development of the Ice-Ice Fruit and Haki.
  • Ye Tong recommended that Kuzan learn from Zephyr, then hurried away with Carotell.
  • Zephyr and Garp discussed Ye Tong, and Garp said he was not evil but seemed interested only in cleaning.
  • Zephyr suggested bringing Ye Tong to his training ground, while Garp left and told him to ask Ye Tong himself.

Ch. 27Dragon's Call, Garp Takes a Disciple

  • Ye Tong practiced Geppo, checked his status panel, and realized his strength had more than doubled since leaving Gray Terminal.
  • Gion appeared in a mask and challenged Ye Tong to a sword fight.
  • Ye Tong used Soru to seize Gion's wrist before she could draw Kompira, then lectured her about staying focused and protecting her sword.
  • Ye Tong removed Gion's mask and told her that she would need to surpass his rank before he would accept her pursuit.
  • Gion ran off, leaving Ye Tong bewildered.

Ch. 30Return to the Training Ground

  • Kuzan challenged Ye Tong to fight, and the others retreated to watch as Kuzan spread cold across the training ground.

Ch. 31Defeating Kuzan Again

  • Kuzan formed an ice blade and challenged Ye Tong to test his swordsmanship.
  • Ye Tong attacked with his twin swords, cut Kuzan’s ice blade, and wounded him before dodging the ice bullets and spikes.

  • Ye Tong refused to go to sea unless Zephyr arranged for Headquarters rear admirals and above, as well as Marshal Kong, to collect trash for him.
  • Zephyr accepted Ye Tong's request and took him to the training camp, where Garp was waiting.
  • Ye Tong stopped Garp from explaining their plans and suggested they visit Sengoku for tea.
  • After three months of accompanying Ye Tong on trash-collecting visits, Garp used a mission as an excuse to leave.
  • Garp ran off to catch pirates, and Ye Tong complained about his lack of responsibility as a teacher.
  • Zephyr worried about Ye Tong's effect on him and considered sending him out to sea soon.

Ch. 34New Function, Preparing to Set Sail

Ye Tong received a Navy assignment to hunt pirates with bounties over ten million and unlocked the system’s Shop after picking up Zephyr’s broken blade. He decided to set sail so he could find more valuable items to collect.

  • Hina reported that the nearest West Blue pirate crew was the Jelas Pirates.

Ch. 36Calm Belt

Ye Tong discussed developing Hina’s Cage-Cage Fruit before killing a Sea King that appeared in the Calm Belt. He told Hina to continue the voyage without him and faced the Sea King alone.

  • After a week of travel, Ye Tong and the warship arrived at the Calm Belt.
  • While eating lunch, Ye Tong advised Hina to explore whether her Cage-Cage Fruit could restrain abilities or space, prompting her to reconsider how to develop it.
  • A bird-headed, snake-bodied Sea King appeared beside the warship, and Ye Tong flew out to attack it with his Two-Sword Style: Waterwheel Cross Slash.
  • Ye Tong ordered Hina to lead the warship onward while he stayed behind, and the wounded Sea King attacked him.

Ch. 37Birdsong, Slaying a Sea King
