At lunchtime, Jackie Chun, Goku, Krillin, and Yamcha sat in the contestants' cafeteria having lunch. They were chatting about the morning's matches when a commotion suddenly broke out.
Goku looked up and saw Tien Shinhan gripping a waiter by the collar, shouting furiously, "You expect us to eat this disgusting garbage? What an insult!"
The moment Yamcha saw this, he sprang to his feet and strode over unhappily. "Tien Shinhan, this is the Martial Arts Tournament cafeteria, not a place for you to run wild. If you hate the food that much, go eat somewhere else!"
Tien Shinhan turned around and shot Yamcha a cold glance. "Who the hell are you to tell me what to do?"
The two locked eyes, and the air instantly filled with the scent of gunpowder. The atmosphere turned tense in an instant, as though a fight could break out at any moment.
Yamcha clenched his fists and replied through burning rage, "I've hated the sight of you for a long time!"
Tien Shinhan snorted coldly. "Anytime! If you dare, I'll make sure you understand the difference between us!"
Just as the conflict was about to erupt, Jackie Chun stood up and said in a deep voice, "Enough! Do you want to get yourselves disqualified here?"
He stepped between them and forcibly separated the two.
Tien Shinhan gave a cold snort and said nothing more, but he had already taken Yamcha's provocation to heart.
Yamcha was equally unwilling to let it go. He glared at Tien Shinhan, then gritted his teeth and returned to his seat.
Krillin quietly whispered to Goku, "Yamcha and Tien Shinhan are really at each other's throats now."
After several fierce preliminary rounds, Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, Jackie Chun, and the others fought their way through and successfully advanced to the quarterfinals.
At the same time, Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu also made it into the quarterfinals.
Before the quarterfinals began, Goku and the others gathered at the arena to watch the drawing results.
As the slots were revealed one by one, the quarterfinal matchups were finally decided:
Yamcha versus Tien Shinhan
Jackie Chun versus Man-Wolf
Krillin versus Chiaotzu
Puff versus Goku
Seeing the draw results, everyone had different thoughts.
Yamcha stared at Tien Shinhan. He had long since been impatient to settle things with him in an official match.
Krillin glanced at Chiaotzu and silently reflected that his luck was not bad.
Goku, Krillin, and Yamcha made their way to the spectator stands and found Bulma and Blonde Launch.
Just as they were exchanging greetings, Master Roshi suddenly squeezed out of the crowd.
When Bulma saw him, she complained, "Where did you run off to take a dump this time?"
Master Roshi hurriedly defended himself. "When did I go take a dump? I went to secretly watch the preliminaries! You all performed quite well. You've got a good chance of winning the championship!"
At that moment, Bulma looked around and complained unhappily, "We got here too late. We won't be able to see the matches in the ring at all later."
Before she could finish, Blonde Launch had already boldly pulled out a pistol. She fired several shots into the air and shouted, "Move! Move! Anyone who doesn't want to get hit by a bullet, make way! We want the best seats!"
Frightened by Launch's imposing manner, the spectators hurriedly backed away, and a narrow path instantly opened up before them.
Master Roshi's eyes lit up, and he repeatedly nodded in praise. "Wonderful! Just what I'd expect from Launch!"
Bulma shook her head helplessly, but she was happy to take advantage of it. She headed toward the front rows with everyone else, claiming a spot with the best view as they prepared to watch the upcoming quarterfinals.
The announcer excitedly declared, "The first match of the quarterfinals, Tien Shinhan versus Yamcha, begins now!"
The audience immediately erupted, and every gaze focused on the ring.
Tien Shinhan and Yamcha stood at opposite ends of the ring, staring each other down as the atmosphere instantly grew tense.
Yamcha sneered. "Tien Shinhan, it's not too late to surrender now. Otherwise, I'll knock your teeth all over the ground!"
Tien Shinhan curled his lips into a cold smile and shot back, "Arrogant brat. Today, I'll show you what true martial arts are!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Yamcha launched the first attack, charging at Tien Shinhan like a whirlwind.
Tien Shinhan met him head-on, and the two instantly clashed fiercely in the center of the ring.
The sounds of fists and feet colliding came in rapid succession. The audience could barely make out any details of their movements, seeing only two blurred figures exchanging blows at incredible speed.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The force from their colliding fists and feet continuously spread outward, whipping up powerful gusts. They fought from the ring into midair, their punches and kicks crisscrossing like lightning. They threw dozens of attacks every second, battling as fiercely as dragons and tigers. Any lapse in focus could expose a fatal opening.
Yamcha gritted his teeth and suddenly roared, "Take my new Wolf Fang Fist!"
He assumed a wolf-claw stance, and his aura abruptly surged. His entire body lunged at Tien Shinhan like a gale.
The wind from his fists howled forth, faster and sharper than before, carrying the force of tearing through the air.
Tien Shinhan merely stood calmly where he was, his eyes slightly narrowed. Yamcha's imposing aura did not shake him in the slightest.
Yamcha's fists rained down like a violent storm, striking in succession toward Tien Shinhan's face, chest, and abdomen, leaving the audience dazzled.
Yet Tien Shinhan deftly dodged every strike or casually blocked it.
Yamcha's fist wind was fierce, but he could never break through Tien Shinhan's defenses. It was as though he were striking some invisible barrier, completely unable to pose any threat to Tien Shinhan.
Tien Shinhan smiled disdainfully. "Speed and momentum alone are useless."
As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly sidestepped, then struck Yamcha heavily on the shoulder with a backhanded palm.
Yamcha felt his shoulder jolt and involuntarily staggered back several steps, his body stiffening.
Seeing that he could not defeat Tien Shinhan with ordinary moves, Yamcha decided to use the Kamehameha.
He gathered his energy between his hands, forming a powerful white sphere of energy in his palms before blasting it fiercely at Tien Shinhan.
Tien Shinhan crossed his arms before his chest and, unbelievably, used a powerful aura to deflect the Kamehameha back at him.
Yamcha was greatly startled and hurriedly leaped into the air to dodge.
Before he could even react, Tien Shinhan had appeared behind him at astonishing speed. Without mercy, he kicked Yamcha in the back, sending him crashing heavily onto the arena. The intense impact left Yamcha dizzy and nearly unconscious.
With a cold sneer, Tien Shinhan dove down from the air and slammed straight toward Yamcha's knee!
"Stop!" Krillin shouted anxiously, but it was already too late to stop him.
Tien Shinhan's attack was precise and merciless. Yamcha's lower leg bone was shattered outright, and the pain caused him to pass out completely.
The spectators erupted into an uproar, while Puar was so anxious that he was nearly in tears.
Seeing this, the referee immediately announced, "Tien Shinhan wins!"
He also urgently called for medical personnel.
Puar swiftly transformed into a flying carpet and lifted Yamcha up. Bulma and Launch hurried after them, taking Yamcha to the hospital.
Seeing this, the tournament host announced that today's matches were over and that the remaining matches would continue tomorrow.
Goku, Krillin, and Master Roshi also went to the hospital to visit Yamcha.
At the hospital, everyone remained silent, and the atmosphere was somewhat heavy.
Yamcha lay weakly on the hospital bed and apologized in a low voice. "Sorry, I... couldn't win. That was really embarrassing."
Master Roshi patted Yamcha on the shoulder and comforted him. "Don't dwell on it, young man. Winning and losing are both normal. You've already improved a great deal—it's just that your opponent was too strong."
Yamcha nodded slightly, then turned to look at Goku, his eyes carrying a trace of unwillingness and expectation. "Goku... you have to help me defeat that Tien Shinhan!"
Goku readily patted his chest and promised, "Don't worry!"
But he was thinking about the future: In a few days, Yamcha and Tien Shinhan will become best buddies!
As night approached, Goku, Krillin, and Master Roshi came to a restaurant for dinner.
Just as they were enjoying their meal, a series of footsteps sounded at the entrance. Master Crane entered with Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu, then sat down at the table beside them.
Master Crane and Master Roshi sat back-to-back. Master Crane immediately raised his voice and asked, "Tien Shinhan, how did today's match feel?"
Tien Shinhan raised an eyebrow and sneered disdainfully. "Hmph, that guy wasn't worth mentioning at all. I could've trashed him with one hand without breaking a sweat."
Just as Master Crane was feeling smug, Master Roshi pretended to be unconcerned. He lifted his rear toward Master Crane's side and suddenly went, "Pfft—" The air instantly filled with an awkward smell.
Master Crane abruptly covered his nose, his eyes widening in fury as he shouted, "You old turtle, that is utterly rude!"
Master Roshi retorted smugly, "Old bird, worry about your two disciples first! Otherwise, their ending will be just as miserable as that!"
