Background / History

Kami resided at Kami's Lookout as Earth's guardian, assisted by his servant, Mr. Popo. When Goku arrived seeking higher-level training, Kami assessed his exceptional aura and assigned Popo to continue guiding him. 30

He was originally one being with Piccolo. Their separation created the resentment that became the Demon King, leaving both souls incomplete. The Namekian Grand Elder later revealed that reunion with Kami was necessary for Piccolo to become whole and achieve the potential of a Super Namekian. 74

Kami provided Goku access to the ancient spaceship that had brought him to Earth from a distant star system, allowing Goku to obtain star-map data for his journey to Namek. 44

During Cell's emergence, Kami observed the creature's life-devouring threat from the Lookout and concluded that Earth needed Piccolo's strength more than his own guardianship. He voluntarily allowed Piccolo to absorb him, on the condition that Piccolo retain control of their fused form. 114 115

After the fusion, Piccolo identified himself as neither Kami nor Piccolo, but as a Namekian who had forgotten his name. Dende later became Earth's new Kami and restored Shenron. 115 131

Kami is a green-skinned Namekian with a stern face and a physical resemblance to King Piccolo. 30
