Kalifa pushed up her delicate glasses, her gaze behind the lenses calm and professional.
"Commander, what are our arrangements from here? Are we taking over the assets left behind by the Capone Family?"
Dawn shook his head, walked around to the back of the desk, and sat down, his body sinking deep into the soft backrest.
"There's no need for that."
He calmly tossed out a fact that left everyone somewhat stunned:
"The Capone Family doesn't have any worthwhile assets at all."
He paused, looking at Kalifa's dazed expression, then explained further:
"If you insist on counting something, the ship they arrived in, along with whatever supplies and weapons may remain aboard, are the most valuable things they possess."
Kalifa was genuinely stunned. She hadn't expected Capone Bege, the leader of an organization that had risen to the level of one of the West Blue's Five Great Families, to have no stable assets or source of income whatsoever.
That was completely different from the major bosses she knew, who ran casinos, bars, protection rackets, and even smuggling operations. It was practically worse than the small gangs on the street that survived by collecting scraps of protection money.
Even petty thugs knew how to create a source of income.
On this sea, whether pirates or gangsters possessed stable assets and income was one of the most direct ways to distinguish their rank and strength.
The renowned great pirates often ran numerous gray-area or even legitimate businesses under their command to earn enormous profits. Otherwise, they couldn't possibly support their huge crews or maintain their supplies of weapons and ammunition.
Once an organization reached a certain scale, trying to rely purely on plunder to cover its daily expenses was nothing short of wishful thinking.
