I laughed myself to death?
Nameless stared down the pitch-black road ahead, his head buzzing. He could barely process it.
What kind of ridiculous way to die was that?
"Amitabha, Station Chief, are you all right?" Bottom-Saver Bodhisattva asked worriedly when he saw Nameless staring blankly ahead.
Nameless shook his head, then said in disbelief, "Evil Kill just made me laugh myself to death."
"Station Chief, pull yourself together!" Bottom-Saver Bodhisattva said.
Nameless sighed. "I'm not feeling negative. I'm just a little hopeless."
Goddamn it.
You could even die from laughing? Was there no justice in this world?
Inside, Nameless was cursing up a storm. But he had been raised well and would not take his anger out on an innocent bystander, so he showed none of it to Bottom-Saver Bodhisattva.
"Amitabha. There is no need to despair, Station Chief. With this humble monk here, you will receive at least the guaranteed reward. All you need to do now is press forward!" Bottom-Saver Bodhisattva said with a smile.
Nameless said miserably, "Bottom-Saver Bodhisattva, if you were me, what would you do?"
"I would feel neither sorrow nor joy and keep trying until I succeeded!" Bottom-Saver Bodhisattva replied.
Nameless looked at him doubtfully. "Wouldn't you feel awful?"
Being literally laughed to death had been his most painful death yet. Right now, he did not even want to face Evil Kill again.
"I'm used to it. Ever since this humble monk became a bodhisattva, the best I can get at anything is the guaranteed minimum." Bottom-Saver Bodhisattva pressed his palms together and looked up into the darkness. As he closed his eyes, two streams of tears ran down his face.
Everything had its odds, and Bottom-Saver Bodhisattva always landed at the very bottom of them.
