Nameless stepped forward and smiled. "Come on up, little one!"
With Nameless's permission, Little Squirrel scrambled out of the water and leaped for the nut in Su Jingyao's hand. But she reacted quickly, raising and lowering it until Little Squirrel couldn't snatch it.
After a while, Little Squirrel gazed pitifully at Su Jingyao, looking utterly heartbroken.
"All right, all right. You can have it." Unable to bear that look, Su Jingyao smiled helplessly.
Nameless sat down beside her. "If you like Little Squirrel, we can take it back to Dream Castle."
"No. It belongs here." Su Jingyao shook her head.
Once Little Squirrel had the nut, it ran straight to Nameless's feet and held it up like a treasure, gazing at him expectantly.
To every River Spirit, Nameless was their sovereign. They would give him anything at any moment, even if it meant dying again.
"Eat it yourself." Nameless smiled.
When Little Squirrel saw that Nameless didn't want it, it carried the nut back into the river and vanished into the dark water.
The number of River Spirits in the Dream River kept growing. Nameless had already set aside roughly one-billionth of its Soul-Light to create them.
Apart from the first time, which had been an accident, the River Spirits born now generally had something special about them.
Some had exceptional bloodlines. Black Tortoise, Vermilion Bird, White Tiger, Azure Dragon—those went without saying. Even the least remarkable were spiritually aware beasts. Ordinary animals like Little Squirrel could no longer become River Spirits.
"Aren't you going to the Divine Treasure Space today?" Su Jingyao asked.
"I'm taking a day off. Tomorrow won't be too late," Nameless said with a smile. "The resources will be delivered to my Storage Space anyway. I won't miss out on my share."
In truth, he still
