Ch. 521Fog Parasite
Chapter Summary: “Fog Parasite”
Plot points and events
Mingzhu City is covered in unusually dense fog, which Su Jingyao enjoys because her superpower can absorb the disaster energy contained in fog. She uses this energy to generate Fated Love Power, which helps couples already in love overcome emotional barriers. In return, she gains permanent passive abilities called Blessings. She currently has Eternal Youth, Radiant Vitality, and Disease Immunity, but her power develops slowly because the city rarely experiences major water-related disasters.
While jogging, Su Jingyao senses a sudden increase in calamitous water and hears someone being attacked. She realizes that a Fog Parasite, a Mutated Beast capable of taking over a human body by eating its brain and controlling its nervous system, is nearby. Lacking combat-oriented Blessings, she immediately flees. The parasite-controlled host pursues her through the fog, while the poor visibility and lack of people outside leave her with little hope of rescue.
Su Jingyao eventually encounters a huge, intimidating figure and initially suspects it may be another creature controlled by a Fog Parasite. The figure is actually Nameless, wearing the Reaper Exoshell. The parasite-controlled human catches up and attacks, but Nameless uses Death Qi to kill the Fog Parasite. Because the creature depends on fog to breathe, replacing the fog with poisonous Death Qi causes it to suffocate and die.
Character development
Su Jingyao is established as cautious, principled, and aware of her limitations. Although her ability has potentially limitless growth, she refuses to manipulate people who do not genuinely care for each other. Her lack of combat abilities forces her to rely on judgment and escape rather than confrontation. Her fear during the chase highlights her vulnerability, but she still gathers the courage to face the mysterious figure rather than surrender helplessly.
Nameless is portrayed as powerful and composed. He recognizes the Fog Parasite immediately and eliminates it effortlessly using the Reaper Exoshell. His casual observation that the creatures can be eaten, contrasted with his refusal to eat one that has consumed a human brain, also reveals his strange but practical attitude.
Significant themes
- Power and restraint: Su Jingyao’s great potential is limited by the scarcity of suitable disasters and by her ethical refusal to force relationships.
- Vulnerability versus survival: Even supernatural abilities do not guarantee safety, especially when they are not suited for combat.
- The danger hidden in ordinary environments: The familiar morning fog becomes a lethal hunting ground.
- Human connection as power: Love and emotional bonds are literally transformed into supernatural strength, linking personal relationships with power and growth.
Character interactions
Su Jingyao is pursued by a human host controlled by the Fog Parasite, creating a desperate chase through the fog. She calls out to Nameless for help but initially fears he may also be a monster. Nameless calmly intervenes when the parasite attacks, using Death Qi to destroy it and indirectly saving Su Jingyao.
