Moreya Town had suffered a great fire that burned for two full days before a heavy rain finally extinguished it.

The Insect Men that had been entrenched in Moreya Town were charred black by the fire, lying sprawled across the ground, giving off a foul stench.

The smell was like that of a mosquito electrocuted by an electric mosquito swatter.

After the fire was put out, four surviving boys and girls quietly returned to the town. The boy at the front was named Owl. A blond man had brought him to town, only to abandon him by the roadside outside the town.

At first, a fat chef who ran a restaurant in town adopted him, but when he was three, the chef died of a strange illness. From then on, he grew up eating meals from every household.

His greatest dream had been to become a constable and repay the kind people of the town.

But that was already in the past.

Moreya Town had already been utterly destroyed when the Insect Men attacked, and the fire two days ago had turned this obscure little town completely into ruins.

"Owl, look over there!"

At that moment, the girl following behind Owl spoke quietly.

Owl immediately looked in the direction she pointed. Not far away, the corpse of an Insect Man was splitting open slightly, and an infant-like arm crawled out from inside.

They had humanoid bodies and heads resembling those of bees. Below their necks was a layer of bristles that looked soft but possessed astonishing defensive power, while their bodies were protected by a thin yet extremely tough shell.
