Background / History

Yang He leads an ambush at the refugee-relief site outside Dingshan County. His bandits disguise themselves as refugees, overwhelm the guards, and avoid indiscriminate killing while Yang He duels Yuan Zhiwu with a spear. His objective is the rare Flesh-Regenerating Bone-Mending Pill, for which he possesses the ingredients but requires a capable pill master. 12

He uses Li Zhaoning as leverage, initially demanding that she accompany him into the mountains until the pill is refined. Li instead names Chen Chong as the necessary pill master and insists on an on-site refinement near the city gate. Chen successfully refines the medicine, and Yang He’s bandits withdraw according to the agreement. 12 13

During Dingshan County’s worsening unrest, Yang He reappears as a black-clad figure crossing the rooftops while soldiers respond to nearby violence. He deliberately looks back at Chen Chong and smiles before vanishing. 16

Chen later recognizes Yang He in the Dark Market and discovers that he has reached the Bone-Forging Stage. This encounter prompts Chen to accelerate his own martial preparation. 25

Yang He ultimately joins Wang Zheng’s ambush outside Chen Chong’s courtyard. After Chen instantly kills Wang Zheng, Yang He engages him in a prolonged saber duel. Although Yang He’s realm and weapon are superior, Chen controls the battle with Dragonwalk, Tiger Roar, and Myriad Ravines Return to the Edge, exploiting Yang He’s wound before stabbing him through the chest. 26

He is also ruthless and confident in violence. His refugee disguise, prepared accomplices, and direct challenge to Yuan Zhiwu demonstrate both planning and battlefield experience. 12 In his final battle, however, he struggles to adapt to Chen Chong’s unfamiliar sound-based disruption and evasive fighting rhythm; once wounded, he attempts to either end the duel quickly or escape. 26
