The Li Family is one of Dingshan County’s prominent great families. Its businesses include grain shops, cloth stores, and apothecaries, with Jichuntang Hall among its properties. The family’s influence extends through both commerce and martial power 10.

As refugees began arriving in Dingshan County, the family organized a relief operation under Li Zhaoning. It supplied grain, medicinal herbs, cooking equipment, and alchemical support, while its members and retainers distributed food and medicine personally 10 11. The operation included the refinement of Illness-Repelling Essence Pills and the distribution of Essence-Nourishing Pills to seriously ill refugees 11.

The family’s resources come with obligations. Li Zhaoning explains that cultivation methods and other benefits provided by the family are treated as investments requiring repayment “by any means necessary.” She also states that she rejected the family’s methods because of its willingness to sacrifice everything for power and authority 13.
