Background / History

Origins and Regional Rise

The Mortal Domain’s official history begins in Year 378 of the Eternal Night Old Calendar. Persecuted by the North River Chen Family, Chen Fan became Station Master of Jiangbei Chen Family Station No. 37 with only Crippled Monkey and three Eerie Stones. The early arrival of the rainy season trapped him in the wasteland, where the faction’s story began 247.

Its early rise included the destruction of the North River Chen Family, Pill Sect, and Wind and Rain Tower. These conflicts were attributed respectively to Chen Fan’s banishment, the Pill Sect Young Master’s provocation, and an assassination attempt against Chen Fan 151. The Pill Sect’s captured resources then funded institutional expansion, while Mortal City’s market drew merchants away from older commercial centers 115 143.

Exploration and Continental Expansion

Commerce Pavilion explorers discovered Hope Island and a resource-rich continent beyond the Thunderstorm Sea. After mourning those killed during the voyage, Chen Fan began an undersea tunnel, with Weiwei excavating and Chen reinforcing the passage 156.

The Mortal Domain eventually unified the Eternal Night Continent and began publishing the Mortal Domain Daily 247. Its overseas campaigns destroyed the One-Eyed, Dark Star, and Heaven-Slaying Clans before they could become Third-Level Races. Chen then ordered further preventive operations rather than treating the victory as permanent security 246 247.

At the Dupeng meeting, Chen proposed an alliance offering continental advancement and collective defense. The gathering brought the Domain 27 dark-technology source points and established the framework of the Mortal Domain Alliance 248.

The Third-Level War

Shortly after advancing to third level, the Mortal Domain faced the Wasteland Clan and multiple Night-Opening People Continents. Its leaders feared that coordinated attacks would overwhelm their resources; the final Spark Plan would evacuate everyone to Beyond Heaven while Chen Fan remained behind 268.

The Domain won, but exhausted every stored Eerie Stone and Sky-Piercing Pillar. Casualties were the highest in its history, with nearly an entire department destroyed. Qi Yue died establishing a teleportation foothold, and the fallen were buried on Rugged Island 274. Zhou Mo’s subsequent resurrection became a rare source of hope during the aftermath 275.

War Mire Campaign

Before entering the War Mire, the Domain used planted intelligence and an orthodoxy claim to weaken an alliance preparing to attack it. Chen Fan also needed to complete the “War Machine” advancement task by launching large numbers of Sky-Piercing Pillars 298.

Its arrival involved attacks on all 77 War Mire continents, followed by targeted demands for surrender. The Bit Continent was destroyed, remaining opponents submitted, and the campaign ended without producing a first casualty after whom it could be named 299 301 318. Chen spared Ming San’s Yellow Springs Wraith Clan and accepted its 2.6 million days of survival time 304.

World Battlefield Expansion

In the Blood Arena conflict against the Eastern Clan, the Mortal Domain supplied 20,000 volleys of Sky-Piercing Pillars. The victory earned Eternal Night 99% faction contribution and the unique Blood Arena God-King title 353.

After consolidating the rewards, Chen sought affiliations without constant warfare. The later Branching Out plan used affiliated continents to absorb further territories, increasing the Domain’s resources and War Dividend layers through indirect control 355 370 375.

Boundary Battlefield Campaign

Eternal Night entered the Boundary Battlefield at sixth level during the Third Dark Turmoil. Its leaders initially prioritized intelligence and preparation amid dangerous fog and incomplete knowledge of enemy movements 394.

At seventh level, the Domain survived an Eighth-Level assault by committing its reserves and using Jiu Wu’s Blood Arena to isolate the attackers 421 422. It then participated in the Peach-Stealing Operation, whose success forced the Strange Entity Clan to abandon its frontline; Eternal Night entered the Human Faction rankings at No. 998 429.

The extermination of the Nine-Headed Serpent Clan established the Domain as a major battlefield power rather than merely a promising newcomer 435 436. Its subsequent Ghost Gate-empowered assault routed the Strange Entity Clan’s Fifth Defense Line and raised its merit ranking to No. 99 447 448.

Capabilities

Construction and Deployment

  • Prefabricated construction: Mass-produced materials, high-speed rail, and coordinated labor allow rapid completion of major defense lines 191.
  • Enemy-territory deployment: Teleportation formations and Giant Strange Entity transport vehicles move personnel and equipment onto hostile continents, enabling cannon construction before the enemy can respond 246.
  • Large-scale logistics: The Logistics Pavilion confirms it can rapidly deploy walls and cannons along a 600-kilometer coast 240.
  • Research inheritance: Heavenly Craft Platforms provide access to research records from twenty continents, including partial fifth-level experimental data 316 320.
  • Limit: Operations depend on coordinated personnel. Chen rejects sole control of all structures because one person could not reproduce the Domain’s deployment tactics 243.

Intelligence and Command

  • Shadow operations: Shao Qiu’s Pavilion trains in concealed killing intent, controlled breathing, listening, and exposure avoidance 125.
  • Demonstrated reach: The Pavilion destroys all 78 core members of the Wind and Rain Tower and publicly reports the result at the first auction 144.
  • Heavenly Derivation Formation: Its level-20 installation connects 470,000 structures out of a capacity of one million, displaying locations, building status, and weapon trajectories 243.
  • Delegated access: The Strategist Pavilion receives control access to 60% of structures in peacetime and 80% in wartime 243.
  • Tracking: Identity Tokens and vehicles receive positioning systems; the command display permits limited mid-flight corrections to Sky-Piercing Pillars 243 251.
  • Limits: Early communication coverage leaves Shao Qiu unable to contact headquarters from Jiangnan. Centralized information later creates a serious espionage risk, prompting background checks and monitoring 140 243.
  • Heart That Embraces the World: A gold-grade blueprint purchased to collect and store popular will 313.
  • Lights of Ten Thousand Homes: Converts accumulated public will into emergency construction resources during major attacks 353 421.
  • Civilian participation: Prayers across Eternal Night contribute directly to the Domain’s wartime survival 353.
  • Blood Arena support: The Blood Arena God-King title multiplies supplied troops tenfold and refunds their costs afterward, allowing temporary emergency construction to become a lasting reserve 421.

Resurrection and Recovery

  • Rugged Island: A creature personally buried by the Domain may revive after a long time if at least 30% of its body remains. The chance is small, not guaranteed 242.
  • Confirmed revival: Zhou Mo returns after his burial following death in battle 275.
  • Black Abysses: Support Jiu Wu’s creation and resurrection of Strange Entities; three are installed on Huyi Continent before his War Mire assignment 239 250 263.
  • Risk-reduced scouting: A Doppelganger Wraith investigates Despair Continent, kills itself on encountering danger, and is revived to report its findings 250.

Arsenal and Strategic Items

Weapon / Item Functions and limits
Godslayer and Anti-Aircraft Cannons Form the backbone of fixed defenses. The trap against Zhitian uses 81,000 Godslayer Cannons and nearly 10,000 Anti-Aircraft Cannons 201.
Black Tortoise Cannon Blue-grade structure requiring a level-10 defense line. Summons an intangible Azure Black Tortoise; its gravitational blessing slows enemies. A tested activation costs one million Eerie Stones and lasts roughly two incense sticks 191.
Heavenly Dao Cannon Supports coordinated continental strikes. At level 30, its judgment effect increases damage according to an opponent’s War Mire Sin Value 246 310.
Heaven-Deriving Orbital Cannon Chen upgrades 99 Heavenly Dao Cannons into this pale-gold weapon 310.
Sky-Piercing Pillars Long-range strategic weapons used for deterrence, saturation bombardment, and interception. A level-20 test concentrates cannon power into a stronger but narrower strike 224 299 421.
Nuclear-Warhead Sky-Piercing Pillars Fifteen are prepared for the One-Eyed Clan operation 240.
Eternal Beyond Pink-grade weapon that sends a struck continent into Yellow Springs 375.
Otherworld Kingdom Pink-grade weapon producing extensive fields of space rifts. Chen chooses a blessing increasing coverage, density, and speed 375.
Nine-Five Dragon Chariot Early aerial combat asset with high operating costs; a later Research Pavilion design is powered by nine Strange Dragons and approved partly for diplomatic deterrence 113 121 355 357.
Mortal Domain Jade Seal Purple-grade authority treasure providing morale enhancement, authenticated orders, oath enforcement, emergency time slowing, and protection for its bearer while the Domain survives. Gains another function every 81 years 207.
Ghost Gate Provides one day of primordial chaos empowerment, enhancing structures, movement, blessings, and formations while prioritizing ambient dark energy over Eerie Stones. Also allows the continent to ignore space rifts 446.

Economy and Trade

Trusted-Faction System

  • Wholesale model: Skeleton Horses are sold in bulk to factions for 1,500 Eerie Stones each, rather than individually 129.
  • Shared trade routes: Chen’s proposed “Silk Road” uses partners’ existing networks to distribute Domain goods farther afield while avoiding unnecessary conflict with established merchants 127.
  • Credit: Medicine King Valley receives Level One status and a 100,000-Eerie-Stone credit limit, using almost all of it to reserve 66 Skeleton Horses 128.
  • Travel privileges: Authentic trusted-faction tokens provide free lodging at the Domain’s Jiangbei stations; travelers must still carry Eerie Stones under eternal-night rules 129.
  • Opening-day results: All twenty trusted-faction slots are filled, more than 1,500 Skeleton Horses are sold, and outstanding payments exceed two million Eerie Stones 129.
  • Construction services: The first auction offers matching level-3 city walls for 2,000 Eerie Stones per meter 127.
  • Overseas services: Commerce Pavilion delegations offer repairs, teleportation, faster transport, ammunition-saving structures, emergency fire support, and credit 239.

274 The third-level war exhausts all saved Eerie Stones and stockpiled Sky-Piercing Pillars.
333 Falcon Continent yields 44 trillion Eerie Stones, 3,800 level-10 stones, six dark-technology source points, and rare materials.
355 Blood Arena rewards include 78 dark-technology points, four Strange Entity blueprints, and 23 blank Heavenly Daos.

Governance and Civilian Life

Membership and Recruitment

  • Registration: Applicants record former affiliations, enemies, and personal achievements for placement assessments, then receive standard robes and Identity Tokens 153.
  • Uniforms: Members wear faction clothing marked with the character for “Mortal”; documented equipment issuance includes three custom-made outfits and replacement records 167 251.
  • Identity Tokens: Support identification, tracking, voice communication, and permission-based building control 251.
  • Salary: A level-2 member receives 1,000 Ghost Coins monthly 251.
  • Whole-Sea Talent Selection: Successful applicants from other continents receive Eternal Night household registration and join the Domain 293.
  • Departmental assessment: Recruitment tests examine reasoning, creativity, strategy, finance, logistics, and management rather than memorized answers alone 293.

Education and Public Culture

  • Spring Examinations: Select administrative and specialist talent; the first examination becomes the setting of the popular storybook Golden Plum 225 293.
  • Private Academy: Its level-20 effect lets newly awakened mortals choose among three cultivation types suited to their education and talents 311.
  • Mortal Domain Daily: Publishes major events, military reports, and new talent; both residents and foreign leaders use it to understand the Domain 235 247 318.
  • Mortal Domain History Book: Records the faction’s origins and campaigns; Jiu Wu uses it to introduce Xiangyang to his new home 247.
  • Night Tour: An illusion-based experience recreating locations such as rainy-season Station No. 37. Participants can leave by saying “exit,” and simulated death does not endanger them 323.
  • Civilian continuity: Schools, newspapers, leisure, and retired continent lords remain part of everyday life even during the Boundary Battlefield war 449.

Protection and Accountability

  • Family protection: The Domain gathers members’ surviving relatives where possible, explicitly extending protection to auxiliary members’ families 164.
  • Corrective discipline: After a gatekeeper’s mistake allows a Doppelganger Wraith into Mortal City, Chen imposes limited punishment and orders the incident documented for future guards 146.
  • Criminal punishment: The aerial prison assigns hard labor to offenders, including a member who stole valuable materials to finance gambling 242.
  • Succession vulnerability: At the time of the Northbank defense preparations, no heir has been designated. Members fear Chen’s unexpected death would cause the defensive buildings to crumble 187.
  • Royal titles: Chen asks to be called Domain Lord rather than “Mortal King,” maintaining his stated ideal of a world without kings 449.

Relationships

  • Medicine King Valley — Early commercial partner and Level One Trusted Faction; later contributes agricultural expertise through Qi Chong 115 128 147.
  • Eternal Night Hall — Transfers the Yellow Springs Pass Defense Line, Defense Line Seven, and their personnel in exchange for future access to Soul-Devouring Sculptures 191.
  • Good Cat and Sahara Continents — Become supported allies. Chen supplies survival time, blueprints, and resources before entering the War Mire 248 293.
  • Cautious Continent / Li Kaixin — Hosts Pillar stockpiles supporting the Retirement Clan and develops long-term cooperation involving transport and conquered populations 333.
  • Despair Continent — Receives a commercial delegation, but is subsequently devastated by a Heart-Eating Wraith; the Domain investigates and captures the attacker 239 250 251.
  • Yellow Springs Wraith Clan / Ming San — Spared former enemies who share survival time and historical knowledge; Ming San later handles communications for the Domain 304 447.
  • Floating Cloud Continent — Warns Chen of an approaching Strange Tide, returns to help despite having escaped, and maintains friendly contact afterward 421 429.
  • Azure Dragon, Black Tortoise, and Vermilion Bird Clans — Their kings work for the Mortal Domain. Alongside the Angler and White Tiger Clans, their entry into the Human Faction earns the Domain six million merit points 429 435.
  • Sky Toad Clan — Formally joins the Human Race under Chen’s leadership, interpreting the Domain’s territorial declarations as a basis for allegiance 448 449.
  • Yun Du and Qi An — Former enemy commanders accepted as defectors and assigned to the Retirement Clan under observation. Their covert loyalty to Hades makes their surrender unreliable 443 447.
  • Human Faction command posts — Provide missions, protection, and compensation, but expose the Domain to dangerous deployments. Chen remains wary of assurances after the Peach-Stealing Operation 422 429.

Reputation and Strategic Doctrine

  • Regional benchmark: By the first auction, visitors compare the Domain favorably with the fallen Pill Sect in transport supply, assassination, and headquarters defenses. Its principal weakness at that stage is the absence of Alchemists 144.
  • Preventive campaigns: “Pulling the Firewood from Beneath the Cauldron” targets Strange Entity Clans before they can reach Third-Level Race status 247.
  • Indirect expansion: Branching Out strengthens affiliated continents and uses them to create further affiliations, compounding War Dividend bonuses without requiring direct rule everywhere 370 375.
  • System rating: The War Mire labels it Peacemaker, with a Sin Value of 20, because the calculation emphasizes deaths caused in warfare within the same race rather than all casualties 310.
  • Enemy priority: The Mortal Domain ranks first on the Strange Entity Clan’s Watch List and is associated with a prophecy of humanity’s future king 400 417.
  • Unwanted prominence: Chen repeatedly seeks a low profile, but battlefield victories make the Domain famous throughout the Human Faction 422 429.
  • Leadership reluctance: Allies offer their votes should Chen seek Human Faction kingship, but he does not want the position 429.
