The elderly man's expression shifted slightly as he stood behind the woman in brocade. He had guessed that their identities might have been exposed, but that had only been a guess. He hadn't expected them to truly be exposed, much less so quickly.
Chen Fan had come in person.
The Domain Lord of the Mortal Domain was personally receiving them.
This was no special honor.
It signaled danger.
"You're Chen Fan?"
The woman in the Brocade Dress looked curiously at Chen Fan, who stood before her leaning on the Jadeite Staff. "You founded the Mortal Domain single-handedly? I heard you're an incredible Builder, but why do you look so young?"
"And you are?"
Chen Fan continued asking with a genial smile.
He looked exceedingly easygoing.
In truth...
He really was a fairly easygoing-looking person. The Shadow Pavilion did all the killing. What did that have to do with him?
"Domain Lord Chen."
The elderly man behind her stepped forward, cupped his hands in a salute, and said gravely, "We're from the Jiangnan He Family. We came only to tour Mortal City. We harbor no ill intent."
At this point, he had to speak up.
This was the Young Lady's first time leaving the family, and she didn't quite know how to measure her words. It would be unfortunate if she made enemies over it.
"The Jiangnan He Family?"
Chen Fan nodded thoughtfully. Soon, the Message Talisman in his robe grew hot. He took it out and listened for a while before smiling. "There's no such faction in Jiangnan. You're from Kansai, aren't you?"
"We really are from Jiangnan."
After a brief pause, the elderly man spoke solemnly.
"We belong to a secluded family in Jiangnan. We rarely venture out, so our name isn't widely known."
"I see."
"Please, come inside."
