The Mortal Domain, Nameless Mountain.

Rain fell endlessly outside the cave. The rainy season had yet to end, and little had changed at the Northbank Defense Line over the past few days. The strange tide coming ashore from the seabed was firmly contained at the coastline, unable to advance another step.

Chen Fan lay on the bed in his cave house.

The Mortal Domain had grown considerably, but this house remained as it had been in the beginning. Even the bed had barely changed. Night gradually fell.

Lying on his side, Chen Fan looked at the calendar hanging on the wall and slowly drifted off to sleep.

Sleep was a wonderful thing.

Especially when he could sleep peacefully.

All along.

What he wanted had been simple.

He had little desire to rule the world or make everyone fear him. He wanted just one thing: a shelter safe enough, with plenty of food and water, where he could sleep soundly every night.

That alone would be enough.

The only reason he stockpiled so much eerie stone now was that achieving those things required a strong enough fist.

Chen Fan slept soundly that night.

It felt as though he had slept straight through to the end of the rainy season.

When dawn came.

Long-absent sunlight shone through the sky. The dark clouds dispersed, and the endless rain stopped.

The rainy season... was over.

Standing on the still-damp Northbank Defense Line, Chen Fan gazed at the blue sea in the distance and stretched contentedly. The rainy season was over. He had been quite relaxed during its final ten days.

He had not dwelled on too much.

He had thoroughly enjoyed a stretch of free time that belonged to him alone.

Once the rainy season ended, he would have to get busy again.
