  • During Eternal Night, Chen Fan’s Arrow Towers killed waves of Strange Entities, while Little Qiu risked his life to retrieve a Building Blueprint and lure attackers onto the Ground Spikes.
  • Chen Fan built a Watchtower and spotted hundreds of Strange Entities, including a force gathered around a blood-red sedan chair, then upgraded both Arrow Towers to Level 3.
  • As the strange tide charged, Zhou Mo identified the attackers as corrosive, self-detonating Meatworm Wraiths, and Chen Fan’s Arrow Rain Storm nearly destroyed their first wave.
Chapters 1–25 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 1"Young Master, My Name Is Crippled Monkey."

After transmigrating into the body of a Chen Family Young Master stranded at a Wasteland Station, Chen Fan learned that his Eerie Fire would go out in three days and leave him vulnerable to the monsters of Eternal Night. He sent his loyal attendant Crippled Monkey to look for travelers and eerie stones, while Crippled Monkey became convinced Chen Fan was secretly planning a comeback.

  • Chen Fan awoke in the Wasteland, received the original owner's memories, and learned that monsters emerged at night and people needed Eerie Fires to survive.
  • Chen Fan discovered that he had been sent to guard a Chen Family Station without eerie stones, and that its fire would last only three more days.
  • Chen Fan learned that his attendant was named Crippled Monkey and told him to look for passing travelers who might pay for the Station.
  • Crippled Monkey ran toward a nearby hill before dark, believing Chen Fan had deliberately come to the Wasteland to build power and reclaim his place in the family.

Ch. 2Eternal Night Lord!

Chen Fan rescued Crippled Monkey from the descending darkness and admitted a traveler in a Green Robe to Station 37 in exchange for an eerie stone. Receiving the stone activated the Endless Night Lord Panel, giving Chen Fan a way to upgrade and build defenses, but he still had only three stones left by the Eerie Fire.

  • Chen Fan searched the bare Wooden Hut, found nothing useful, and decided to attract travelers from a nearby rise the next day.
  • As darkness swept across the Wasteland, Chen Fan saw the injured Crippled Monkey approaching with a middle-aged man in a Green Robe behind him.
  • Chen Fan rushed outside, carried Crippled Monkey back, and reached the station’s Gold Grade circle just as darkness engulfed the area.
  • Chen Fan told the Green Robe man the station’s rules, and the man paid one eerie stone before entering the Wooden Hut.
  • The eerie stone activated the Endless Night Lord Panel in Chen Fan’s mind, which offered building upgrades and construction options, including a Beast-Trap Snare.
  • Chen Fan inspected the three eerie stones by the Eerie Fire and realized they would normally sustain the station for three nights.

Ch. 3Stockpile grain, delay claiming the crown!

Chen Fan discovered that he could use Building Blueprints to craft structures more efficiently than other Builders and made a trap to hunt strange entities for Eerie Stones. He rejected returning to the North River Chen Family and resolved to build a sanctuary where he was.

  • Chen Fan combined two Eerie Stones to craft a Level-1 Beast Trap, revealing to Crippled Monkey that he had awakened as a Builder.
  • Crippled Monkey urged Chen Fan to return to the North River Chen Family, but Chen Fan said he disliked letting others decide his life.
  • Chen Fan recalled that Builders were exceptionally rare and learned that his ability to use Building Blueprints directly made construction cheaper and more reliable.
  • Chen Fan placed the Beast Trap at the edge of the Eerie Fire's light and kicked it into the darkness, hoping to find its catch at daybreak.
  • Chen Fan decided against returning to the North River Chen Family and chose to stay, gather resources, and build a sanctuary of his own.

Ch. 4"A debt too great for words."

Chen Fan received crucial survival advice and a Ghosthide Map from a Green Robe middle-aged man who had once pitied his plight. The man left, promising to return in three months if Chen Fan was still alive.

  • Chen Fan hid the dead Strange Entity and Beast Trap before the Green Robe middle-aged man woke up.
  • The man explained that he had chosen Chen Fan's station out of sympathy but would answer only one question and give no extra eerie stones.
  • Chen Fan asked how to improve his chances of surviving in the Wasteland.
  • The man warned Chen Fan to collect eerie stones before allowing travelers inside, explained the danger of Strange Entities, and advised building a City Wall and an offensive structure.
  • The man gave Chen Fan a Ghosthide Map and promised to stop by in three months if Chen Fan survived.
  • Chen Fan thanked the departing man and vowed to repay him, but the man left without giving his name.

Ch. 5"You're a genius."

Chen Fan recovered an eerie stone from a trapped Monkey-Head Ghost and planned to expand his resources by reusing Beast Traps and making Eerie Fires. He sent Crippled Monkey to braid Hemp Ropes, then left to scout a nearby Camp, which appeared better equipped than his own.

  • The Green-Robed Man detoured away from Chen Fan’s Station and wondered why no one had helped him in the past.
  • Chen Fan retrieved the Monkey-Head Ghost caught by his Beast Trap, and Crippled Monkey identified it and extracted its eerie stone.
  • Chen Fan considered selling Eerie Fires but decided to focus on resetting Beast Traps from safety with Hemp Ropes.
  • Chen Fan tasked Crippled Monkey with braiding Hemp Ropes, then set out to inspect nearby Stations for resources.
  • Chen Fan reached a nearby Camp and observed its Level 2 Eerie Fire, seven Wooden Huts, Farmland, and four residents.

Ch. 6"It's not charity. It's an investment."

Chen Fan prepared for the dangers at his Camp and met Wang Kui, the Station Master of a nearby station. After learning that the Chen Family had likely sent Chen Fan to die, Wang Kui decided to give him supplies and eerie stones as an investment, suspecting Chen Fan had a plan.

  • Chen Fan returned to his Camp after observing the Beast Trap and other building blueprints, then accepted Crippled Monkey’s report about the Hemp Rope.
  • Chen Fan told Crippled Monkey to eat dry rations because they had work to do that night and he would find a way to secure more food.
  • Wang Kui and his subordinate visited Chen Fan, asked why he had reopened Station 37, and left after the subordinate called him the Chen Family’s bastard.
  • Wang Kui questioned his subordinate about Chen Fan and learned that the Chen Family had sidelined him after his Builder awakening failed and likely sent him to die.
  • Wang Kui decided to give Chen Fan food, water, and five eerie stones from his own pocket, reasoning that Chen Fan and Crippled Monkey showed no signs of despair.

Ch. 7Eternal Night descended—time to get to work!

Chen Fan received food and five eerie stones from Wang Kui, then spent all six of his stones on three more Beast Traps. After eternal night fell, Chen Fan and Crippled Monkey began trapping strange entities, and their first catch was a Monkey-Head Ghost.

  • Wang Kui sent a subordinate to give Chen Fan food, water, and five eerie stones as an investment in his future.
  • Chen Fan recognized Wang Kui's gift as a thoughtful attempt to build goodwill and took stock of the camp's resources.
  • Chen Fan used his six eerie stones to build three Level-1 Beast Traps, bringing his total to four.
  • When eternal night descended, Chen Fan pulled a triggered Beast Trap into the light while Crippled Monkey prepared to kill the catch.
  • Chen Fan dragged a Monkey-Head Ghost into the safety zone with one lower leg caught in the trap.

Ch. 8"Exotic treasure name": Monkey-Head Mushroom Seed.

Chen Fan and Crippled Monkey killed thirty-seven Monkey-Head Ghosts overnight, gathered eerie stones, and discovered a Monkey-Head Mushroom Seed. At dawn, Chen Fan suspected a stronger Monkey-Head Ghost was coming and began building a Level-1 Arrow Tower to prepare.

  • Crippled Monkey killed a trapped Monkey-Head Ghost with his spear, and Chen Fan reused the Beast Trap to catch more.
  • A Monkey-Head Ghost dropped a glowing clump that Chen Fan identified as a White Grade Monkey-Head Mushroom Seed that matured in three days and improved physical fitness when eaten.
  • Chen Fan and Crippled Monkey killed thirty-seven Monkey-Head Ghosts, leaving the Camp with five Beast Traps and thirty-five eerie stones.
  • Chen Fan found stiff white monkey hair caught in a Beast Trap and suspected a leader of the Monkey-Head Ghosts had escaped and might return that night.
  • Chen Fan postponed building Farmland and used ten eerie stones to begin constructing a Level-1 Arrow Tower.

Ch. 9"Building name": Arrow Tower.

Chen Fan built and upgraded an Arrow Tower to prepare for a dangerous creature that might attack at night. As darkness approached, he killed a Mother and Daughter seeking shelter and revealed that they were disguised strange entities.

  • Chen Fan built a Level-1 Arrow Tower and spent twenty Eerie Stones to upgrade its power, turning it into a sturdier Level-2 structure.
  • Chen Fan inserted an Eerie Stone into the Arrow Tower and saved his remaining stones for ammunition and the Eerie Fire.
  • After sleeping, Chen Fan woke near sunset to find Crippled Monkey confronting a Mother and Daughter who wanted to stay the night without Eerie Stones.
  • Chen Fan took Crippled Monkey's Spear and killed the Mother and Daughter as they tried to flee.
  • The Mother and Daughter's bodies shrank into horrifying infant-like strange entities, and Chen Fan told Crippled Monkey to kill such visitors immediately in the future.

Ch. 10The Legacy the Mistress Left for the Young Master?

Chen Fan used a Building Replication Stone to create a second Level-2 Arrow Tower, then prepared for a dangerous attack during Eternal Night. A huge Monkey-Head Ghost charged into the Camp but fled after both towers wounded it, leaving Chen Fan regretting that it had not been killed.

  • Chen Fan explained that the Mother and Daughter were Impostor Ghosts and told Crippled Monkey to eat before the coming fight.
  • Chen Fan used a Building Replication Stone to copy his Level-2 Arrow Tower and fitted an eerie stone into the new tower.
  • Crippled Monkey praised Chen Fan’s building talent and urged him to marry and have children, while Chen Fan reflected on his Player Panel and the world’s flawed cultivation system.
  • Chen Fan sensed a powerful creature approaching and warned Crippled Monkey to stay inside the Camp and let the Arrow Towers fight.
  • A massive Monkey-Head Ghost charged into the Camp, but the two Arrow Towers struck it with crossbow bolts and drove it back into the darkness.

Ch. 11"Good stuff!"

After a dangerous night, Chen Fan found the wounded Monkey-Head Ghost dead near Camp and collected its Eerie Stones and two exotic treasures. He gained an Eerie Stone Vein Seed to help secure future supplies and gave Crippled Monkey a powerful Godslaying Spear.

  • Chen Fan and Crippled Monkey waited for Beast Traps to catch something, but no strange entities appeared during the night.
  • At dawn, Crippled Monkey found the wounded Monkey-Head Ghost dead near Camp, and Chen Fan collected its two glowing treasures.
  • Crippled Monkey extracted seventeen Eerie Stones from the corpse, bringing Chen Fan's total to twenty, and hid the body with the others.
  • Chen Fan identified one treasure as an Eerie Stone Vein Seed that matured in three days with strange entity corpses as fertilizer.
  • Chen Fan identified the second treasure as a size-changing Godslaying Spear and gave it to Crippled Monkey.

Ch. 12Time to start farming!

Chen Fan upgraded the Eerie Fire, built Farmland, and planted seeds with Crippled Monkey as he planned to expand his workforce. Wang Kui visited and, seeing Chen Fan’s defenses, concluded he had become a builder and left hoping to benefit from their connection.

  • Chen Fan upgraded the Eerie Fire to Level 2 and chose to reduce the resource consumption of Defensive Structures.
  • Chen Fan built a plot of Farmland and ordered Crippled Monkey to bury the Monkey-Head Ghost corpses there as fertilizer.
  • Chen Fan planted Monkey-Head Mushroom Seeds and Ghoststone Vein Seeds, then realized he would eventually need more people to tend the land.
  • Crippled Monkey reported finding unknown seeds in the Wooden Hut and planting them in a corner of the Farmland.
  • Wang Kui visited with two large vats, saw Chen Fan’s upgraded Eerie Fire and Arrow Towers, and inferred that Chen Fan had become a builder.
  • Chen Fan thanked Wang Kui for his earlier help and promised to repay him, and Wang Kui left the Handcart behind as he returned to his Station.

Ch. 13"We can't really work them to death, can we?"

Wang Kui decided not to report Chen Fan’s Builder awakening to the Wang Family, hoping instead to join Chen Fan’s emerging faction. Chen Fan sought more eerie stones by testing his building ability in the Wasteland and constructed an Eerie Fire with only three stones and a handful of Withered Grass.

  • Wang Kui told Little Qiu that reporting Chen Fan could bring dangerous consequences, and suggested that they might be better off joining Chen Fan’s faction.
  • Chen Fan worried that the Wang Family might pressure him after learning he was a Builder, and planned to strengthen the Camp and prepare an escape route.
  • Chen Fan left the Station with Crippled Monkey to test his building ability in a remote part of the Wasteland.
  • Chen Fan used three eerie stones and some Withered Grass to build an Eerie Fire, astonishing Crippled Monkey.

Ch. 14"It's moving! It's moving!"

Chen Fan and Crippled Monkey stayed at the New Camp to test Beast Traps, but cold and torrential rain forced Chen Fan to spend two eerie stones on a Wooden Hut. The traps caught five strange entities, and Crippled Monkey killed the first one with his Spear.

  • Chen Fan bound the Eerie Fire with his blood and decided to spend the night at the New Camp testing Beast Traps.

  • Chen Fan and Crippled Monkey trapped and killed strange entities until the creatures stopped coming, collecting forty-seven eerie stones and corpses by morning.
  • Crippled Monkey loaded the corpses onto the handcart, and he and Chen Fan returned to Camp through heavy rain and wind.
  • Crippled Monkey told Chen Fan that approaching Camp felt like coming home.
  • Wang Kui met Chen Fan outside Camp and warned him that the early rainy season would last a month before winter, leaving the Wasteland’s Stations abandoned until the Start of Spring.

Ch. 16The Rainy Season Arrived Early

After learning that the rainy season had arrived a month early and a strange tide might destroy the Stations, Chen Fan agreed to work with Wang Kui to prepare for survival. Wang Kui and Little Qiu joined Chen Fan, who began gathering people and resources at his Camp, ending with two hundred Eerie Stones in hand.

  • Wang Kui warned Chen Fan that the early rainy season made strange entities more aggressive and that a strange tide could wipe out the Stations.
  • Chen Fan agreed to leave with Wang Kui, but Wang Kui learned that the Wang Family could not evacuate their Station from deep in the Wasteland.
  • Chen Fan revealed that he was a Builder and asked Wang Kui for resources and help strengthening the Camp.
  • Wang Kui gave Chen Fan 137 Eerie Stones, left the Wang Family, and pledged to follow him; Little Qiu added seventeen stones.
  • Chen Fan ordered Wang Kui and Little Qiu to move their supplies and recruit nearby Station residents, requiring new arrivals to surrender their communication tools.
  • Chen Fan counted two hundred Eerie Stones and resolved to survive the rainy season so he could grow strong enough to return to the Chen Family.

Ch. 17North River Market

Chen Fan weighed how to strengthen his Camp against the early Rainy Season while Northbank City’s residents feared a possible strange tide. In Northbank City, a Chen Family heir learned that Chen Fan’s remote Station was still standing and expected the coming danger to kill him.

  • Chen Fan considered upgrading two Arrow Towers or saving Eerie Stones to build a City Wall, and planned to decide after Wang Kui returned with supplies.
  • A shopkeeper at North River Market feared the early Rainy Season would bring a strange tide, recalling that he survived the last one by retreating behind the Wild Wolf Gang’s Level-3 City Walls.
  • A North River Chen Family youth checked a Ghosthide Map and saw that Chen Fan’s Station 37 was still lit.
  • The youth and his aide discussed how they had sent Chen Fan to a remote abandoned Station with only three Eerie Stones, following the family’s rules while expecting the Rainy Season to finish him.

Ch. 18Eternal Night fell, Strange Entities ran rampant!

Chen Fan gathered abandoned Station Masters at Station 37 and promised to lead them through the early rainy season using his Builder Inheritance and defenses. He began sending people to salvage supplies and ordered the camp’s Wooden Hut dismantled before nightfall.

  • A servant summoned the Chen Family youth to a meeting of Northbank City’s Three Great Families, and he privately thought he was being groomed as the successor while Chen Fan was left to die.
  • At Station 37, Chen Fan welcomed seven people brought by Wang Kui and heard a former Qiuhe Wang Family Station Master explain that he had nearly killed himself before Wang Kui found him.
  • Chen Fan introduced himself, revealed his Level 4 Builder mother’s inheritance and his two Level 2 Arrow Towers, and promised to do everything he could to keep the newcomers alive through the rainy season.
  • The newcomers accepted Chen Fan’s authority, and he ordered Wang Kui and Little Qiu to search two nearby abandoned Stations for useful supplies and Eerie-Stone Reserves.
  • Chen Fan identified Wang Mazi, the Station Master of North River Chen Family Station 36, and ordered him and three others to dismantle the Wooden Hut before nightfall.

Ch. 19City Wall

Chen Fan used the eerie stones he collected to build a Stone Wall around the Eerie Fire and moved two Arrow Towers onto it. He left the Farmland outside the wall, hoping his crops would survive the coming Strange Tide.

  • Chen Fan counted 376 eerie stones and spent 320 to construct a five-meter-tall Stone Wall around the Level 1 Eerie Fire’s safety zone.
  • Chen Fan inspected the wall’s walkway, concealed gates, and Troop Shelter Caves, then realized its position gave him a clear view of the Camp’s boundary.
  • Chen Fan relocated the two Level 2 Arrow Towers onto the wall without spending additional resources and noted that only 56 eerie stones remained.
  • Wang Mazi watched Chen Fan from atop the wall, then ordered his men and Station Chief Qi to pack their belongings and dismantle the Wooden Hut.
  • Chen Fan placed a Beast Trap beside the Farmland outside the wall and worried that the crops might not withstand a Strange Tide.

Ch. 20Ground Spikes

Chen Fan upgraded the Camp’s Beast Traps into powerful, reusable Ground Spikes, then prepared a new Wooden Hut for his people before the strange tide. Meanwhile, Wang Kui and Little Qiu encountered an unexpected City Wall at Jiangbei Chen Family Station No. 37 as they hurried back through the Rain.

  • Chen Fan tested a Level-2 Beast Trap, chose increased power, and confirmed its Ground Spikes could repeatedly pierce a Strange Entity.
  • Chen Fan spent forty Eerie Stones to upgrade the four remaining Beast Traps and placed all five Ground Spikes along the Farmland.
  • Chen Fan decided to postpone building a Sacrificial Tower and focused on surviving the coming strange tide.
  • Crippled Monkey told Chen Fan that the old Wooden Hut had been dismantled, and Chen Fan used two Eerie Stones to build a sturdier replacement.
  • Chen Fan invited Wang Mazi and the others inside the new Wooden Hut to organize supplies and warm themselves.
  • Wang Kui and Little Qiu saw an unexpected City Wall at Jiangbei Chen Family Station No. 37 while returning through the Rain.

Ch. 21"Come on, let's go home!"

Chen Fan welcomed Wang Kui and the others to Station No. 37 and gathered them inside the new hut as Eternal Night approached. As they shared their wishes and pasts, Chen Fan considered how each man might help build his faction.

  • Wang Kui arrived at Station No. 37 with the group and felt reassured that he had chosen to follow Chen Fan.
  • Chen Fan assigned Wang Kui to organize men to build a partition in the hut the next day.
  • Chen Fan invited everyone to share their wishes, and Wang Kui said he hoped to save Eerie Stone, marry, and have a son.
  • Zhou Mo introduced himself as a Level-Two Cultivator who had served the Wang Family and pledged to follow Chen Fan.
  • Wang Mazi shared his wish to travel farther, while Qi Chong said he hoped to build a cenotaph for his mother.
  • As the men talked through the approaching Eternal Night, Chen Fan considered assigning them roles in his future Camp.

Ch. 22Meet force with force, adapt to whatever comes

Chen Fan and the Camp’s residents faced the first wave of strange entities during Eternal Night, and the Level-2 Arrow Towers killed the attackers before they could breach the City Wall. Chen Fan stayed wary, suspecting that a powerful entity behind the eerie laughter was still lurking in the darkness.

  • Chen Fan sensed Eternal Night approaching, changed into wet clothes, and led the Camp’s residents to defend the City Wall.
  • Rustling, scraping, laughter, and sobbing in the darkness frightened the defenders before dozens of tall, bamboo-thin strange entities charged the Camp.
  • The two Level-2 Arrow Towers killed the strange entities, and Chen Fan spotted a white-glowing exotic treasure among the corpses.
  • Wang Kui said the Camp could withstand twice as many attackers, but Chen Fan warned himself that the laughter suggested a stronger entity remained nearby.

Ch. 23"I got it."

Chen Fan sent Little Qiu to retrieve an exotic treasure from a fallen Strange Entity, but a fresh attack forced Little Qiu to flee across the Camp. Little Qiu escaped by luring two Strange Entities into traps and returned alive with the treasure as Chen Fan shouted at him to get back inside.

  • After the Strange Entities stopped charging, Chen Fan spotted an exotic treasure near a corpse and weighed the danger of retrieving it.
  • Crippled Monkey and Little Qiu volunteered to fetch the treasure, and Chen Fan chose Little Qiu and opened a section of the City Wall.
  • Little Qiu grabbed the treasure, but a new attack rushed him from behind as Chen Fan and the others tried to warn him.
  • Little Qiu dodged the Strange Entities, ran toward the Farmland, and leapt over the Ground Spikes Traps while Chen Fan ordered the gate closed.
  • Two Mantisman-like Strange Entities stepped onto the traps and died, and Little Qiu celebrated with the treasure as Chen Fan cursed at him to return inside.

Ch. 24Watchtower

Little Qiu returned with the Building Blueprint after risking his life to draw the pursuing Strange Entities away from the Camp, and Chen Fan built a Watchtower. Its expanded view revealed a migrating horde and a group of hostile Strange Entities led by apparent chiefs and a major chief waiting outside the Camp, leaving Chen Fan to prepare to upgrade his Arrow Towers.

  • Little Qiu reached the City Wall with the Building Blueprint and explained that he had run toward the Farmland to keep the Strange Entities from breaching the Camp, even if it cost him his life.
  • Chen Fan praised Little Qiu, accepted the blueprint, and recognized that his willingness to sacrifice himself had moved the people on the wall.
  • Chen Fan crushed the White Grade Building Blueprint and spent 10 eerie stones to build a Watchtower that revealed the area within 50 meters of the Camp.
  • Chen Fan saw hundreds of Strange Entities migrating through the darkness and a group of about a hundred gathered around a blood-red sedan chair near the Camp.
  • Chen Fan identified two larger Strange Entities as likely minor chiefs and suspected the figure in the sedan chair had come seeking revenge for a subordinate he had killed.
  • Chen Fan concluded that his two Level 2 Arrow Towers could not stop the waiting enemies and decided he needed to upgrade them to Level 3.

Ch. 25Arrow Towers upgraded to Level 3

Chen Fan upgraded both Level 2 Arrow Towers to Level 3, choosing greater single-target damage for one and Arrow Rain Storm for the other. When a tide of self-detonating Meatworm Wraiths surged toward the Camp, the active skill nearly wiped out its first wave, while the remaining creatures rolled past and continued into the eternal night.

  • Chen Fan spent five eerie stones to upgrade an Arrow Tower and chose the fire-element path to increase its damage.
  • Crippled Monkey warned Chen Fan that a strange tide was charging toward the Camp, and Zhou Mo identified the approaching creatures as corrosive, self-detonating Meatworm Wraiths.
  • Chen Fan saw the Female Wraith and her followers withdraw into the Gray Fog, then upgraded his other Arrow Tower and chose Arrow Rain Storm.
  • The first Meatworm Wraith entered the Camp and screamed upon sensing the Eerie Fire as more of the tide followed.
  • A Level 3 Arrow Tower unleashed Arrow Rain Storm, nearly destroying the first wave of Meatworm Wraiths, while a few survivors rolled through the Camp and into the eternal night.
