At first, Thanos had only wanted to escape.
But before he fled, he planned to grab whatever he could.
He could obtain a Dimension Heart, for instance, and become a Dimension Lord.
Otherwise, he could only flee with his followers.
He also wanted the Infinity Gauntlet so he could collect Infinity Stones from other universes.
But then Gamil had suggested sealing Ultimate Evil inside him, and that changed everything.
After all, the system could turn anything that entered his body into Points.
If he converted even a billionth of Below All, in the form of an avatar, into Points, he would strike it rich.
So he decided to prepare for both possibilities.
His escape plan would remain in place, but he would also try to defeat Below All and seal that being inside himself.
If he succeeded, he might soar straight to Multiversal Level.
And so, he laid out his plan to seal Below All.
When the assembled lords fell silent, he understood their concerns. "Don't worry. Once Immortal Hulk is defeated, I'll volunteer to be the vessel for the seal and walk through the Gate of Hell myself."
The lords were filled with admiration.
They knew nothing about Thanos's system. They simply believed he was noble enough to sacrifice himself for the universe.
"Thanos is a true hero."
"He is. Who knew Thanos was so selfless? He's an example to us all."
"I'm moved. We'll never forget your sacrifice."
