Thanos gave Nightmare a long look, then asked, "Do you have a way to leave this Multiverse?"
Nightmare shook his head. "I don't. But I know you do."
After speaking, he kept his gaze fixed on Thanos's eyes, as though trying to find the answer in them.
In truth, Nightmare had no idea whether Thanos had a way out. But he had noticed that, beneath Thanos's urgency, there was a hint of calm. That made him suspect Thanos had a means of escape.
That was why he had come to test him.
Thanos smiled ruefully. "What way out could I possibly have? If I did, I'd have left long ago. Why would I still be here? Waiting to die?"
"No. You definitely have one," Nightmare said suddenly. "I can see it in your eyes. I'm Nightmare, the one who understands hearts better than anyone in the universe!"
He had every right to say that.
After a lifetime spent dealing with dreams, he had seen countless lives and peered into countless minds.
With all he had witnessed, he had learned how people worked.
