Because Thanos had discovered in the records that the only reason his counterpart's Titan had not been destroyed was that its people had turned to plunder.
When Titan's resources were at their scarcest, Thanos had led a fleet to sack a Planet, bringing vast resources back home.
After getting a taste for it, the people of Titan had abandoned their ancestral teachings. They had become a force of interstellar raiders, waging wars across the Milky Way.
Thanos had become a hero to the people of Titan and a locust to the Milky Way.
The records also showed that whenever Thanos conquered a Planet, he killed everyone on it, leaving no survivors.
If that was not Death's influence, what was?
Why else would he adopt a policy of slaughter? Was he not afraid of provoking the fury of the entire Milky Way?
After reading through a pile of records, Thanos turned back to the battle between the Superheroes and the Celestials in the Solar System.
