After casually dispatching a few small fry, Thanos looked at Superman in his hand.
Superman had sunk into despair, his eyes filled with tears and regret.

But unless someone had reached Transcendence and could redefine the rules, energy still had to be conserved under the existing rules.
In other words, someone was about to pour energy into Superman.
The next instant, Thanos sensed an extremely subtle energy appear directly inside Superman's body.
Superman's power kept swelling, surging past the threshold into Universal Level.
Superman raised his head and glared at Thanos with murderous fury.
"You deserve to die!"

Space shattered, revealing a stretch of darkness.
Within that darkness, points of starlight invisible to the naked eye flickered.
But Thanos's soul perception showed him the being clearly.
It was humanoid, with two arms and two legs, but no ears, nose, or mouth. It had only a pair of eyes that seemed to contain space itself.
Thanos did not know who this being was, but it existed in a form the naked eye could not see.
