In Beverly Hills, there were two kinds of homes. One was what would later be called a townhouse.
Of course, by Japanese standards, it would be called a detached house.
They were villas built side by side along both sides of the road according to a fixed plan. These villas were not cheap either, but they were obviously incomparable to the villas by the hills.
Most of the people living in them were executives or small business owners.
They valued Beverly Hills' safety and chose to purchase property there.
Living in such a community could guarantee their safety to the greatest extent.
Los Angeles in 1991 was clearly quite unsafe, though the future might not be much safer either.
The car rode exceptionally smoothly over the asphalt road. Kevin and Jolie admired the scenery on both sides, immediately feeling refreshed and at ease.
This was a joy only the wealthy could experience.
People busy with work had no time to appreciate such scenery.
After driving for around twenty minutes, the road gradually began to slope upward. Five more minutes later, they arrived at a villa.
Before entering, they had to pass through a guard post at a massive iron gate.
Only after Litt produced some form of identification did the guards permit them to enter.
This was clearly the checkpoint for the upscale villa district by the hills. Under normal circumstances, anyone of unknown identity could not even reach this place.
The villa was surrounded by dense, neatly trimmed hedges roughly two to three meters tall, ensuring a certain degree of privacy within the property.
They followed the path through the hedges for more than ten meters. After turning a corner, the villa's front door appeared before them.
Litt took out a ring of keys and tried them one by one. After finding the right key, he opened the door and led Kevin and Jolie inside.
The moment they entered, a beautifully maintained outdoor swimming pool appeared before them, and Jolie immediately let out a cheer.
Owning a residence with a swimming pool was every American's dream, especially in a place this nice.
After circling the pool once, Jolie followed the two men to the house.
The exterior walls were mainly creamy white and looked exceptionally inviting. A massive layer of transparent glass covered the outside, leaving the living room completely exposed to the view.
Inside, the layout of seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms made the house feel especially comfortable.
Some of the furniture inside was covered with cloth to keep off dust.
Overall, Kevin found it extremely comfortable. The only problem was that living in a house like this required cleaning staff.
Otherwise, dust would easily accumulate in such a large home.
Getting around from here also took time. He needed to buy a car, and at that thought, he suddenly wanted to hire a bodyguard as well.
Someone who could serve as both his driver and bodyguard.
As a wealthy man, it was necessary to take proper security precautions. No one knew whether kidnappers might set their sights on him.
But that was all for later. What he needed to do now was buy this house.
Looking at Litt, who was still giving his introduction, Kevin interrupted him.
"All right, I've decided to buy this house. Contact the owner directly. I want to move in as soon as possible."
Litt immediately stopped talking, piled on a smile, and contacted the owner.
Two days later, all the procedures were complete. Kevin had paid nearly seven million dollars for the house, and it finally belonged entirely to him.
As for the process, it was not worth mentioning. As long as the money was enough, nothing was a problem.
Professionals made things easy when paid. Litt handled everything from start to finish, and Kevin only had to move in with his bags.
After buying a pile of personal toiletries, bedding, and other necessities,
Kevin and Jolie officially moved into the villa.
After spending several shameless days indulging in unrestrained revelry with Jolie, Kevin finally began working on his real business.
The project proposal for Get Out.
Time passed quickly. By mid-November, Saw had finally reached the end of its theatrical run after its initial peak and gradual decline.
Its cumulative North American box office had reached the enormous sum of 86.52 million dollars.
Second only to the 100 million dollars earned in North America by [The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear], it had essentially secured eleventh place on the North American box office rankings in the calculations of the major film companies.
In other words, it had failed to make the list.
But none of the major film companies dared underestimate this movie.
After all, The Naked Gun 2 was a sequel to the hugely successful The Naked Gun, carrying enormous built-in popularity, while its production budget had reached 23 million dollars.
Adding in promotional expenses, it had not actually made much money from theatrical revenue alone.
It needed to rely on later DVD sales, television licensing, and other copyright income to turn a profit.
Saw, meanwhile, was merely a horror film with an investment of 1.3 million dollars. With that North American box office performance, it would bring in at least another 80 million dollars overseas.
That meant its total box office could reach around 160 million dollars.
After deducting all costs, New Line Cinema could make at least 60 to 70 million dollars from this box office alone.
There would also be later revenue close to that amount, not to mention the birth of the Saw IP.
This meant that New Line Cinema had acquired an enormous gold mine.
With this good news, New Line Cinema's stock also surged, invisibly increasing Shaye's assets by quite a bit.
After the film left North American theaters, the Big Five Hollywood studios each sent executives to New Line Cinema to discuss overseas distribution, hoping to claim a share of this gold mine.
Of course, Shaye ultimately chose Warner Bros., with whom he had the best relationship.
"Ugh! Finally finished."
Kevin stretched in the living room, looked at the proposal in front of him, and muttered to himself.
The proposal did not actually need to take so long, but with a sexy beauty like Jolie by his side, his work efficiency was bound to suffer badly.
Jolie came in from outside. The pool had a heating system, allowing her to enjoy swimming even in this cool weather.
She dried the water droplets from her body with a bath towel. Seeing that Kevin had stopped working, Jolie asked with a smile,
"Is the proposal done? Is the script finished too?"
Kevin nodded.
"Then the female lead..."
Jolie spoke with a hint of embarrassment. Although she had long decided that she could give anything to become a big star, now that the opportunity stood before her, she still felt a trace of shyness.
But after experiencing the pleasures of being rich, she could no longer return to her old life.
If Kevin abandoned her just like that, her only choice would be to keep setting her sights on other wealthy men...
