Xiao Han hovered high in the sky, looking down at the Hydra base below.
With his current strength, he could reduce this place to rubble with a single breath.
But then he seemed to think of something and flew downward.
He landed in the base's main control room and found the database for the Serum Project.
After a quick scan, Xiao Han discovered that he had been chosen at random. Hydra had found his body at the scene of a car accident, but for some reason, he still showed signs of life. They had brought him back as a test subject.
"So... I just had bad luck? A car accident brought me to the Marvel World?" Xiao Han frowned.
[Ding! Host's question detected. Additional explanation: The host's selection was not accidental. The system detected abnormalities in the space-time structure of this universe. Quantum fluctuations appeared at the moment of the host's death...]
Xiao Han shook his head. "Speak plainly."
[Simply put, Host, you were supposed to die, but the universe encountered a bug.]
Xiao Han couldn't help laughing. "So I'm a bug now?"
He closed the database and flew into the sky again.
The sunlight shone on him, and his blue lab coat snapped in the wind.
Xiao Han suddenly realized that he now possessed the power to change the world.
"Since I've been given a second life..." He looked toward distant New York.
"Superman?"
"No! I do whatever I want!" Xiao Han lifted his head, his gaze resolute.
Before leaving, he destroyed the entire base with a blast of Heat Vision.
He broke through the sound barrier, leaving a ring of white vapor in the sky before vanishing into the horizon.
A figure silently swept across the clouds above New York.
Xiao Han landed on the roof of an abandoned factory in Queens. The cold wind tugged at his thin Hydra lab uniform.
He rubbed his temples, and Super Hearing spread out like an invisible radar net. The sounds of the entire city flooded into his ears in an instant.
"...The gold will be delivered to the docks tonight..."
"...This batch is 92% pure. Same place as usual..."
"...The Black Mask Gang's deal is tonight..."
Countless secret criminal conversations were filtered and sorted through Xiao Han's ears.
Three minutes later, he locked onto a suitable target.
A strip club in Brooklyn called Red Snapper had the Irish mob's illicit earnings from the past three months hidden in its underground second floor.
Xiao Han glanced again at a passerby's watch.
The current time was 12:17 a.m.—New York time, of course.
The perfect time for a crime.
A hint of amusement flashed through his eyes, and his figure vanished from the spot.
In the alley behind the club, two bodyguards were smoking.
"I heard Boss Devon recently got a prototype of Stark Industries' military weapon?"
"Shh, don't mention it. That shipment is hidden in the vault..."
Before he finished speaking, a breeze swept past.
Bodyguard A suddenly felt a chill at his neck. His vision went black, and he collapsed, never to wake again.
Bodyguard B had just reached for his waist when he saw an Asian young man standing in front of him, a strange red glow filling his eyes.
"Keep quiet if you want to live." The young man's voice carried an odd resonance.
Bodyguard B's pupils dilated. "Okay."
Xiao Han nodded in satisfaction and lightly chopped him unconscious, sending him to meet God.
With Super Speed, he passed through layer after layer of security as if no one were there. Every surveillance camera inexplicably malfunctioned as he passed.
In front of the underground vault, Xiao Han's X-Ray Vision saw straight through the internal structure of the thirty-centimeter-thick alloy door.
His eyes focused, and Heat Vision precisely melted through twelve locking bolts without triggering a single alarm.
The sight inside the vault made him raise an eyebrow. Besides piles of cash, three metal cases bearing the Stark Industries logo sat in the corner.
Xiao Han casually opened one. Inside was a prototype of some kind of weapon.
He took out the phone he had lifted from one of the unconscious bodyguards and snapped a picture of the weapon.
Then he tossed away the upper half of his ugly lab uniform and stored everything inside his system space.
It would be enough to last him for a while.
As Superman, he had nothing to fear from an investigation. But trouble was still troublesome. He wasn't the King of Hell, and he wasn't going to kill everyone who came along.
That wouldn't make him human anymore. He'd be the Grim Reaper.
Besides, this was such a low-level way to make money that he would only do it this once.
Just as he was about to leave, his Super Hearing suddenly caught an unfamiliar electronic sound coming from upstairs.
Xiao Han narrowed his eyes. Through his vision, he saw Black Widow interrogating the club owner in a VIP room on the third floor.
"Where is your smuggling network?" Natasha's voice was cold.
"I swear to God, I don't know! We only deal in ordinary human trafficking."
Xiao Han shook his head and decided not to interfere.
He left without a sound, not disturbing so much as a single cloud.
At five in the morning, in an upscale apartment in Midtown Manhattan.
The real estate agent opened the door bleary-eyed and saw a neatly dressed Asian young man standing outside.
"I'll rent this place." The young man handed over a stack of cash. "I want it now."
The agent looked at the cash in his hand—$96,000, exactly six months' rent—and instantly woke up halfway. "Don't you need to see the apartment first?"
"No need." When the young man smiled, a faint blue gleam seemed to flash through his eyes.
Two hours later, Xiao Han soaked in the hot tub of his new home while three newly purchased laptops floated in front of him.
His super brain absorbed information about this world at an astonishing speed.
"Iron Man just revealed his identity... Captain America hasn't been thawed out yet... Spider-Man saved someone or other again..."
Xiao Han muttered to himself as his fingers tapped out strings of code across the keyboard.
Ten minutes later, he had successfully created a perfect new identity.
"Xiao Han, Chinese American, orphan, MIT dropout, currently a freelance programmer."
There was no helping it. No matter the world, getting a Chinese identity card was difficult.
With Superman's abilities, he now had three choices.
First, put on his underwear over his pants and go to the White House to tell the president to go home and farm.
But Xiao Han had no interest in that. Presidents were too much trouble.
Second, take off straight into the sun and bask there for more than a decade, then wait for Thanos to appear and slap him into uselessness.
But he had yet to start enjoying life, so that option was also a pass.
Third, honestly become Superman and earn himself a Good Person Card.
After thinking it over, he decided that option was a pass too.
He wasn't Clark. He didn't have such a strong moral compass.
Unless he suddenly felt like trying it one day, there was no way he would do something like that.
So he had only one choice: do whatever he wanted to do.
Xiao Han stopped thinking about it and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window to overlook New York.
Sunlight fell across his sharply defined face, reflecting in a pair of unfathomable eyes.
"First, I'll get familiar with the world," he said softly. "And then..."
His Super-Sight pierced through more than a dozen blocks. Inside the Daily Bugle Building, he saw a red-haired female reporter writing an article about Iron Man.
Somewhere, a one-eyed Black man stared at energy readings on a screen.
On the top floor of Oscorp Tower, Green Goblin Osborn was studying something.
Xiao Han smiled. In this danger-ridden Marvel Universe, he neither wanted to be a hero nor wished to become a villain.
But one thing was certain: when he was ready, the entire world would learn of a god's existence.
But for now? For now, he needed a cup of coffee and more detailed information about the world.
