To avoid awkwardness, Sifa cleared his throat. "I heard you were dealing with something here?"
Kyle gave a dry laugh. "I wouldn't call it dealing with it. I'm still completely in the dark, since I'm not very good at handling this kind of incident."
Sifa gave an "Oh." "What kind of incident?"
Kyle glanced at the young gentleman and rubbed his nose. "A haunting."
Sifa froze for a moment. "This place is haunted?"
That was impossible.
When he entered, he had not sensed anything.
Forget that he was now a True God—even if he were not, he would still be able to sense whether this place was haunted.
Besides, even if this place truly was haunted—
Now that he, the Red Priest, had stepped inside, it was equivalent to a sanctuary blessed by a True God.
Even an evil spirit would instantly burn away and evaporate.
Kyle did not know that. He merely nodded solemnly. "Yes, it's haunted."
"At first, I didn't pay much attention. I thought it was just some ghost story being passed around among the children."
"But last night, a child really did disappear."
"Disappear?" Sifa smiled. "There are many reasons a person might disappear. It doesn't necessarily mean it was a haunting."
"What do the children say?"
Kyle said in a low voice, "It's a story about 'Mother.'"
Sifa raised an eyebrow.
The two sat on a stone bench in the small garden. A little girl picked a few flowers and gave them to Kyle.
Kyle smiled and accepted them.
Then he said,
"'Mother' was from Tingen. She lost two children in the war."
"She was in unbearable pain and often confided in others, but no one was willing to listen to her."
"Not long afterward."
"People found her dead in her house. Her entire body
