The hired carriage traveled along the smooth cement road. Sifa glanced out the window and remembered that the roads outside the town had once been paved with mud and sand.
Whenever it rained, they became exceptionally muddy.
Now that they had been covered with cement, the roads were not only smooth, but also free of standing water when it rained.
"This place has changed so much."
"Hunter" Kyle, seated across from him in the carriage, sighed. "When your mother got married, all of us companions who had traveled together came to offer our blessings."
"Back then, there were not even roads here. There were only little paths pressed out by people and cart wheels."
"Horse droppings and other animal waste could be seen everywhere on the ground."
"The houses in town were also low and dilapidated. Only the square and the Evernight Church were relatively decent."

Sifa merely smiled without speaking.
At that moment, they entered the small town. The carriage traveled along Mermaid Road, where the little inns were still open for business.
Yet the streets had a visible air of desolation.
When they reached the square, Sifa saw police officers emerging from Azure Phase Road. It seemed that some case had occurred over there.
Reg said softly, "Sir, the atmosphere feels wrong."
Sifa nodded. He had already noticed it before reaching the town.
The town's aura was wrong.
Though the economy was depressed, the town's aura was far too lifeless.
Such an aura usually appeared only when there had been a large number of deaths.
They arrived at Golden Champagne Avenue, at the Baron's Estate.
Sifa looked over and found that the aura here was fairly normal.
In the entire town,
